  1. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) Exaggerate much? No other reason? Got it. I love how you think that's so outlandish. If you remove the item that makes killing hundreds of times easier, how many of those would still be deaths. We have a hint, and its other countries without as many guns.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) Went over to a Dodgers board and asked about the King tweet. Poster said he would imagine King does have pretty good sources considering he hosts a Dodger show and has been a life long fan. Poster said its probably about Samardzija, unless we wanna talk about Sale. Q, underrated even in fantasy trade talks.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) Plus, we should also care about "gang violence" related deaths anyway. A lot of times it's innocent bystanders, and even when it's not, it's still a major part of the cycle of poverty and violence. It's the "our death rate is higher due to higher # of criminals", which I question the rate at which it would be higher to the degree they imagine.
  4. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:28 PM) There's not a lot of information on gangs in the rest of the world, but here we're now probably over a million. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gang_population The references to other countries pale in comparison. I'm not discounting we have a gun culture that's clearly different from the rest of the world, as indicated in those numbers. We have 330 million, so without UK numbers (ireland would be interesting rate comparison) would need to be substantially less rate in population to see difference.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) Other countries don't have the gang numbers we have. That "100k" pool is a bit different in comparison. I don't buy it. Gangs are not unique to US, the gun violence rate in US is beyond substantial. The flood of guns available in the western hemisphere from US obsession with them has made the entire 2 continents more dangerous.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) Take out the gang killings and what would it look like I wonder. Why does this matter?
  7. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) Anyone thinking that Larry King tweet has nothing to do with Samardzija? I was a bit interested to know who dodger fans thought was coming.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) How has it worked for the White Sox this year? Seriously, I don't want to minimize how important pitching is, but if you replaced Danks with Kershaw this year, I still don't think we are a playoff team.
  9. I'm more surprised at that arbitration thing...why would he be that expensive? He's not a closer, he's not that good.
  10. Huh. He kinda sucks this year.
  11. I love twitter: ron small ‏@small_ron 27m27 minutes ago @jonmorosi @FOXSports what going on with the trade talk and r there close to getting a deal done Thanks Ron, oh, I forgot to mention, here's the exact package and they are VERY close. Thanks for your follow up!

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) Would be kind of funny if Samardzija was used to sweeten a deal centered around Q. The Dodgers really could use two arms in the rotation. If that were to truly happen, I'd expect Seager back.

I wonder who LA fans are hoping is coming.
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) I just enjoy hearing the talking points. "This deal will stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons." "This deal ensures that Iran will have nuclear weapons." We refuse to publicly agree on the main aspect of the deal. If you believe everyone is speaking honestly, the sides have come to the opposite conclusion about it. I think it will be very difficult to stop a country that is intent on acquiring nuclear weapons from developing them over a long period of time. I would certainly bet that in my lifetime, Iran acquires a nuke. I would also bet that this deal absolutely slows that progress more than the status quo.
  15. Trey's season as such a young player in that league is probably underrated. Good k rate, good walk rate, just have to hope he develops more power.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) I'd say he got Eaton right -- don't forget that Eaton has had wRC+ of 101, 124, and 126 in the months since his dreadful April and now carries a season number of 98. He's a really important part of our team now and going forward. Davidson certainly isn't some big win and doesn't look like it will ever be, but it's worth mentioning that Addison Reed is pitching in AAA. The person we sent away was not good, so that's important to consider. Hahn was correct to try to trade away Reed. At first I thought you were referring to Leury Garcia and I was going to say that it probably wasn't some "this is who we thought was their best" evaluation. But Avisail has been disappointing, especially in one crucial way IMO --> if they thought he was going to be a competent defender, it appears they were very, very wrong. Given where he is developmentally, he can only be successful in a very specific way, which is carrying a strong average with good power numbers. He will subtract value with his defense and he walks so little that he'll have to earn everything he gets at the plate. yes, it was referring to Avi. Hahn sold that he found future core of young players to build around. Eaton looks like a starter, but it does not look like Avi will be anything other than a DH. Peavy was a prime piece of a trade, we really had to find some impact talent there.
  17. Sincerely hope Connor finds a future as an MLB regular.
  18. I want to reiterate how great it was seeing a 3-run home run.
  19. Considering Levine's crap knowledge of our own prospects, I do not put much stock into his theories of returns from others.
  20. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 09:45 AM) Pretty equally terrible imo but yeah both should be more. I believe they are suspended without pay, so keep in mind it's also a 20% dock into their salary.

I feel like Fulmer requires way more development time to build up arm strength than Rodon needed.
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) Braxton Miller official to H-back/WR. His shoulder injury just wont get better. Labrum's continue to be the worst possible injury to the arm. That's a shame.
  23. I missed home runs. Home runs are great. Lift and pull! Lift and pull!
  24. ugh, please don't give up 6 runs in the first.
  25. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 04:22 PM) I don't trust Hahn's ability to identify/evaluate talent. He has a poor track record so far. He has done a much better job drafting (albeit in much more favorable circumstances in both draft rules and slots), but he certainly struck out on the Eaton/Davidson/Garcia evaluations
