  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) Unless you live on said alderman's block, complaining won't help the plows find your street much quicker. Couldn't disagree more.
  2. Can we get Dario Saric and Gary Harris back for Doug?

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Suburban white people are the ones leading the anti-vax movement. Shh, they need to fill their anti-anti-racism snark quota.
  4. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 01:59 AM) The dunk competition is "wildly more successful" than the HR Derby? I guess I'll have to take your word for it, as I don't know anyone who watched the dunk competition anymore. From all the ratings I've found through google, the HR Derby draws the same or more viewers than the dunk contest, and the MLB All-Star game draws a DRASTICALLY higher rating than the NBA All-star game. http://regressing.deadspin.com/the-mlb-had...ts-t-1606770612 So when you speak about one being wildly more successful, I assume you are talking about baseball's all-star week. No, in fact I'm talking about the NBA all star weekend, which has been a huge marketing success and is why baseball has an all star week. The NBA didn't invent the all star game, and the Pro Bowls advantage has nothing to do with marketing and everything to do with football. They couldn't have done more stupid things to make it less relevant, just as baseball's stupid "make it count" is not a marketing success. I can name NBA all star weekend activities right now without looking: Game, Dunk contest, 3 point contest, skills competition, rookie/soph game, in addition to the much better job the NBA does at using that weekend to promote their stars and have them interact with media/fans. That's the marketing angle. That's what they do way better than the MLB. Baseball has done a horrendous job of creating star power in an era of lesser home runs. If you did a poll of most famous athletes, where would Mike Trout land?
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) They already shoot t-shirts into the stands. I don't think things will be all that much different than they are now except for maybe some new tunes. They have kids racing down the lines. Southpaw gets some time. I go to games to see what happens during the innings, but some find what goes on in between the difference between attending and staying home. I can't imagine it being irrating enough to keep me away from coming, although the t-shirt tosses get to be ridiculous. People knocking people down for a cheap Chevy t-shirt. One thing, compare how the Bulls utilize Benny vs whatever the sox do with Southpaw. The # of skits and routines Benny does are huge hits. Southpaw dances and interviews, but he's mostly a photo op and useless. Do I care? No. I've already said the only thing I want is God Bless America gone. Maybe put a golden ticket between one seat in each section that gives you access to a decked out, clean bathroom where everything is made out of gold.

http://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevo...accination.html What's the phrase about the amoutn of effort to refute bulls*** is exponentially more than it takes to create it?
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) I live in Little Italy now (as of Black Wednesday) and this snow has just been the biggest pain in the ass. My alley to the parking spot had two cars and stuck in it. Then my car got stuck trying to turn around outside my alley. We used to live on Michigan Ave. and the snow was handled very swiftly. Am I to expect my neighborhood not to be plowed every time there's a considerable snow fall? These situations are tailor made for complaining like hell to your alderman, who also may be in the midst of an election on feb 22nd.

I kinda freaked out watching WGN morning news this morning. They did an update on the vaccine outbreak and Obama pushback, then totally did a "republican response" (rand paul) "democrat response" (clinton) as if this is a debate. I'd write them an email if I didn't just already write this to a message board.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) Not sure of the answers there. The real question is....where did the virus come from then? Vaccinated Americans traveling overseas? In one case, an unvaccinated Amish person came back from a missionary trip and introduced it to the very unvaccinated Amish enclave in Ohio, it then spread like crazy. People travel all over. Especially the wealthy, as is the case here.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 08:52 AM) But they do compete for marketing and fan dollars. I was gonna root for the white sox, but then I saw they picked Soler over Garcia
  11. bmags replied to bmags's topic in The Filibuster
Measles has the highest immunization rate required to stop spread at 92%. That means it's required in any enclave. So the national average can be 92%, but if you are in a particularly anti-vaxxer area, it will spread like wildfire.
  12. QUOTE (almagest @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) Beckham/Bonifacio don't figure to be the starter, though. Johnson/Sanchez are a better bet, with Beckham/Bonifacio being utility players. I'll believe it when I see it.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) I wouldn't say you are outdated at all. There's nothing wrong with associating organ music with the classic baseball experience. For years, part of the enjoyment of a day out at Comiskey Park/U.S. Cellular included being entertained by the one and only Nancy Faust. I would take her creative stylings on the keyboard over any canned song any day of the week. Organ music can be terrible. I forgot what Bulls game I was watching, but I think New Orleans had an unbelievably annoying organ playing the whole time.
  14. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) And baseball doesn't have a "finals" it has a "series". It's the same thing. It's not just the all-star game, it's the Home Run Derby and the celebrity and legends softball game as well. Both make it a 3-day event. And one is wildly more successful. The NFL also has an all-star game and nobody seems to think it's fantastic. Just because the Peoples Choice award exists doesn't mean it's the Oscars.
  15. Well, do wolves eat dogs?
  16. QUOTE (almagest @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) Or that Baez is going to be great after hitting .160 with a million strikeouts I don't think he said Baez would be great at all, but when you are going head to head against Beckham/Bonifacio you wouldn't rather see how this kid with massive power potential does? I'd rather have Baez there too.
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) "The NBA is really well known for the big spectacle of events they do, such as All-Star weekend and the NBA Finals," Man, I wish baseball had events like that. Instead, there is no break in the middle of the season, and everyone goes home for the winter when the regular season ends. This guy may be on to something. He didn't say All Star game, he said ALl Star weekend, and yes, the NBA does a much better job at making events EVENTS than the MLB.
  18. That's fair but I think if you include Adam LaRoche as a "bench" player than I don't see how you give the edge to the cubs there. I also do not care really, as the Cubs are not in the White Sox division. But there's risk in the cubs projections that aren't acknowledged. You've seen the Sox position player flaws, but you assume Soler will have a smooth transition.
  19. No, no, it's the opposite. It's replenishing marginal returns.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) Am I missing Misdy Elliott's impact on music history somewhere. I still don't see why some think her appearing was a big deal. Missy/Timbaland dominated pop music from 2001 to like 2005 and set Timbaland on that unstoppable streak til like 2008 when he ran out of steam. For my money, her and outkast really pushed out that unbearably glossed over muzak production in pop music in the late 90s. I think her influence really pushed up production which you saw in songs like when toxic dropped by Britney spears. Then Kanye probably took over after that, now I have no idea what the kids are doin YAR CLOUD WHY
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) IIRC that was an MLB directive, and I am guessing no one wants to be the person to stop doing it for fear of being labeled a commy. Yes, sigh, I know. Stuck with probably the worst patriotic song written for eternity.
  22. Would be great if they could get rid of God Bless America at 7th inning stretch and either put it before anthem, or replace it with one of the better songs like America, the beautiful (especially with it's loose Chicago ties). But alas, that's impossible.
  23. From what I've seen nationwide's strategy seems to be "how dare you criticize us for raising awareness about child accidents!"
  24. Well, they tried. I thought they did a decent job of pivoting but when your pivot is making a store not as good as best buy it's a matter of time. I hope the displaced find jobs quickly. Unfortunately, looks like there's still a lot of slack in the labor market.

It seems like Christie is hedging in order to clarify that he's not talking about Measles, he's talking about the terrible HPV vaccine, which is fighting back God's decision to punish women for being women. /sarcasm
