I love that the bulls early on decided to go after melo over love, took on salary and used both firsts, cleared zero salary before meeting with melo, then upon it being clear melo wasn't convinced a 10 mill per year salary was enough, decided 34 yr old Gasol was plan B. Your bulls management ladies and gentleman. Queue gar pax apologists "it's not their fault! They are only GMs, what power do they have?"

Also count me as disappointed that Nick Young is off market. He would have been fun.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) It wouldn't be pre-melo. It would be Phil telling Melo, we got Pau, now get over here and sign that deal. Note: Bulls didn't really screw the pooch. Timing of everything was that they couldn't do the Pau S&T until Melo was signed. Lakers still have caproom to do a Pau S&T, however, it really would limit anything else they really could do, so it all depends on what their off-season goal really is. I'm talking salary-cap wise. Isn't there still a caphold for melo for NYK? They either give him the MLE or they have 4 million. He isn't taking discount for that crap team.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:25 PM) What we really don't want is Pau announcing he is going to Knicks. They are still over cap right now, I don't see him going to knicks for MLE pre-Melo. I'm guessing OKC. Bulls really screwed the pooch with the Lin to LA developments. BUt we have an in on Hinrich.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:11 PM) Eh, if Thompson was really pulled from the Warriors package the offers that the Wolves have received for Love have been trash. Despite Bennett being dreadful last year, I'd take that package over the rumored Faried and Wilson Chandler package from the Nuggets or an offer from Golden State that doesn't include Thompson. We suddenly find ourselves in the world where Taj is the best player listed. Chandler I like but injury problems galore. Faried, whatever. They need someone to play D for Pekovic.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) I'm guessing your last sentence is correct and the Cavs think that Waiters/Bennett/1st Round picks might get this done which would give them a core of Irving/Wiggins/LeBron/Love which would be f***ing ridiculous. When it is all said and done I'm guessing they would trade Wiggins if that is the only way to get the deal done. Honestly waiters/bennett/picks sounds like the worst of all of their packages.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) So are they going to play Wiggins along-side LeBron? Can Wiggins play shooting guard? He can play the 2, honestly he'll be great. But get the titles when you can, cleveland.

Chris Broussard @Chris_Broussard 12m Source: Cavs have told Wiggins he's not being traded. TWolves want Wiggins. Cavs will try 2 do it w/out losing Wiggins. Must find 3rd team If there's one thing we can count on, it's cleveland caveliers ineptitude.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 09:28 PM) You know more about taxes than me, but my understanding of how income tax works for pro athletes is that they pay each state based on the games played there. So its 41 games taxed at NY rates v IL rate. There was an si article that broke this down and included this, chicago still way cheaper.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) I really hope this doesn't drag out too long with Melo because I have long thought it makes a ton of sense to get Kirk back at the vet min and I think he will come back, but if we have to keep sitting around that could pose an issue. Bulls could also get really creative and sign Kirk to like a 4.7M deal (technically you make it a 3 year deal with final 2 years being non-guaranteed) and use it as another asset in a S&T. I have total confidence that Bulls management can re-sign Kirk Hinrich.

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) If you're Bryce Montes De Oca and were just drafted by the Chicago White Sox last month and also have a commitment to Missouri baseball, a top SEC program, what would it take for you to sign and start playing professionally at 18? Yes I understand Montes De Oca will likely never step foot in the White Sox organization but I'm just wondering what it would take (money and otherwise) for him to not go to Missouri, where he can prove himself and make more money in 3 years, gain an education, and maybe even an SEC title or award, and rather go to Camelback Ranch and for him to start his career as a ChiSock and start climbing the ranks to the Show, earning money, playing professionally, and learning from Coop every Spring. Anyways, best of luck to this kid, wouldn't mind drafting him in 2017 if he can really prove himself.- 2014-2015 NBA thread

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 07:00 PM) No one is really lining up for Boozer right now. And next year the Bulls could likely make a max fa offer with guys like Aldridge, Love, as UFA and Klay Thompson as RFA. (Edit) Which is why if the Bulls dont get Melo they might as well just ride with what they have instead of getting a band-aid (presuming they cant trade for a Love or Aldridge). Aldridge said he plans to sign an extension this offseason. - 2014-2015 NBA thread
