  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) Remember when Hawk thought Youk's granny was a routine sac fly? I was watching in a bar with no sound on. Coming off the bat I thought it would be a pop up to second.
  2. There's no reason to use these college stats as opposed to actual NFL game film which they could evaluate him on. NFL teams have scouts for these very situations.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) Im saying you cant look at it in a vacuum and pretend that the NCAA games didnt occur. You actually can do this.
  4. Remember when Youk hit that granny?
  5. I don't really care, at all, about college. Delhomme was a backup in Nola that showed occasional brilliance. Hasselback was Favre's backup, that Holmgren traded for. Nobody cares about college. BUt there is precedent for handing a former NFL backup a starting job based off limited action.
  6. the tribune web site is the worst.
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) I don't wish to sound like an insurance company shill here, despite full disclosure that I presently work for one. Insurance companies do a lot of things I disagree with, a lot of things the ACA actually corrected for the better. But it takes more than insurance companies to mess this up...the doctors/hospitals/drug companies share a majority of the blame, but haven't been touched. Remember, they're the ones that send the arbitrary and exorbitant bills...but nobody seems to care about that. It's all the insurance companies fault. I really agree with you. I think politically it was just easier to use the insurance companies cost-saving mechanisms to help lower costs, while reducing the barriers to getting insurance. As you saw, it's really hard for the government to take on cost-cutting measures without people screaming about death panels. But also, it's really hard to go after doctors and hospitals, like soxbadger said. People respect doctors, one of the few institutions that people still DO respect. So to say "we're going to cut down on doctor pay/ we're going to pay less" etc. it's just too easy to frame as taking the decisions out of doctors hands and into the hands of BUREAUCRATS.
  8. Eh, Matt Hasselback, Jake Delhomme, we've seen these small sample size QBs get signed to be starters before and it has worked out. Not everyone is Kolb.
  9. I don't think season ticket sales are affected as a result of rahm's union busting.
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 02:26 AM) they tune it out because it gets barely any news coverage. Most people probably think that war is over. Unfortunately it's too expensive for them to cover.
  11. I'll say I've had a pretty good experience with BCBS in Illinois. But dental, however, I'm kinda disappointed about how little that covers for me.
  12. I think paterno's death is more likely caused by his lung cancer.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 01:55 PM) I thought the teachers were walking out as soon as school started? Budget talks are ongoing.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) I wonder how things would have turned out between the two of them (and Harrison/Ringo) if Lennon was still around. Obviously now, McCartney is all about reminiscing about the good times and making it appear as if things would have worked out in the end, but that's easy to do if the other half of the equation is incapable of saying otherwise. Still, the SNL thing is an awesome story. I'm going to see Band of Horses and My Morning Jacket tomorrow at Pritzker Pavillion in Millennium Park. My level of familiarity with either band is pretty low, so I've thrown all of their music into a playlist so I'm not completely blindsided by it. It feels like the time I wrote a 15 page final essay the night and morning before it was due freshman year of college. That time I got a B, not sure I'll be anywhere near as successful this time. I haven't seen the popular supergroup that has been able to turn down the millions of a reunion tour for over 30 years. They wouldve gotten together eventually.

when on road trips i google "top reading lists of 2012", and sometimes they dont' convey what a book is about. Anyway, "Penolope" is an awful book. I feel embarrassed that I bought it.
  16. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 09:37 PM) He should have withdrawn already. Word is he will by tomorrow, no doubt because I thought I read that tomorrow is the last day to replace a candidate and still be eligible to be on ballot. Horrible statement to make. Maybe we should throw him in general pop and ask him a week later his opinions about rape. Do you think they'll need to raise signatures? If so they need to get going on that now.
  17. I'm more interested to how developed Davis will be on defense. His greatest impact on Kentucky was just how aggressive their guards could play because he was so athletic getting to the drive and blocking shots. His offense will come, but if his defense is there right away he'll be a great addition already.
  18. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) I'm not really sure what you're getting at, they have Atlanta taking the 8th seed at 40 wins. It looks like they just kind of grouped all of their playoff teams between 45 and 50 wins and most of the non-playoff teams between 30 and 37. There's probably going to be more separation than that. That is what i'm saying. When they are doing these predictions I think they just have an idea of power rankings in the east and assign arbitrary win totals to show that off. I think the basic takeaway should probably just be "ESPN doesn't think there's much of a difference between NJ, NY, CHI and PHI".
  19. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 07:57 PM) It's more about the Bulls than the other two (though I do think the Knicks can be better, even if they are kind of a mess), I just don't think they have any margin for error if they're going to win 46. I think that's just a result of preseason rankings. Lots of inflation goes on there. I don't see why this year would be any different than the past, where the east has the 8th seed below .500 and a few teams hovering just above it.
  20. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 08:30 PM) ESPN projects the East They basically have the Bulls in a dead-heat with Brooklyn, Philly and New York for the 4th seed. I find that to be a little optimistic. I think philly is a lock for 4th best, but the bulls to play along with knicks and brooklyn? Yeah I hope we play so poorly we are behind them but those win totals seem pretty accurate, if not 2 or 3 generous.
  21. I still have not seen this movie. I'm so bad at seeing movies in theatres now. I just have no desire to make the trip most nights.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 06:05 AM) KC is actually a pretty decently-sized city. It's very wide open though. It has a small, dense downtown, but beside that there's quite a bit of area to add infrastructure. Try doing that in NYC or San fran and it would be ridiculous.
  23. I thought if someone just committed him to being a goal line package QB it seemed a worthy goal to try out. I still think that could work. But nobody is willing to specialize the QB position (and if i were a starting QB i'd be pissed because my incentives would be cut.)

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) I liked it. It was kind of 15 year old female Jason Bourne-ish with the soundtrack of run lola run.

Hey Guys, I watched Hannah last night. Wanna hop in a time machine to last year and talk about it?
