  1. Well, since they'll be serving with actual gay people that they've probably already served with in combat, they just now know they are gay, instead of hypothetical crusades to kill hitler with liberace, i think they'll be a bit more reasonable. Gays have already been serving in the military.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) By the way, on inflation... while its very low now, that will not last. Give it a couple years, and we will be seeing big inflation numbers. I've been seeing this for 3+ years now.
  3. with the military now a non-discriminatory organization, their re-integration to college campuses should mean even more good things for the military.
  4. I'm choosing to focus on the senators who decided to right a wrong than the people who tried to perpetrate it. This was really amazing, that two weeks ago, six months ago, this was dead in the water, and then in a rapid-fire four day span it's here. Once again, great job Harry Reid.
  5. It's official. A great day. Thanks Harry Reid.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) Well see about that. Those Congresses passed the Iraq war, the Medicare insurance company bailout act of 2003, and a whole ton of tax cuts, in addition to the general business of government. (You didn't say they had to be good things). oooo the general business of government? tell me more!
  7. imo more than the congress of 2002-2006
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) The House passed, by an overwhelming margin, a standalone repeal of Don't ask, Don't tell, late last night. The Senate will once again attempt to take up this bill, but as with before, it is subject to the filibuster. Collins and Snowe are on board. We just need 1 more.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Hell, even if they don't bring another arm in: Thornton, Sale, Santos, Crain, Infante, Pena is a (potentially) solid 6 man pen, with a couple guys who can go more than 1 inning (Sale, Pena). I hope...bullpens are nutty.
  10. yep. But that was in post #1. software patent trolls are hilarious. And they win. If you want to run a software company you need to buy every vague patent saying things you might be doing to prevent ridiculous lawsuits.
  11. you guys have any examples? I'm trying to change the world with this thread.
  12. We have serious problems in this country I hope we can stick to addressing them.
  13. Jesus reading the trib you'd think the pats were the greatest team of all time
  14. I disagree, I think majority rules is exactly the way things should pass.
  15. some pretty rich companies have had some pretty ridiculous patent trolling happen against them.
  16. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) Mizzou is really overrated. They're struggling against good, but not great teams and blew that Georgetown game. They might have the worst perimeter d in the country. i think you are wrong.
  17. How 'bout some. Especially for the tech companies. http://yglesias.thinkprogress.org/2010/12/patent-madness/
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) Regardless of whether he hit him in the back of the head, it has been described as unnecessary and a "non-football" move. I think the issue with the hit was what most of us in this thread pointed out - it was completely unnecessary to hit Cutler in that manner. It's pretty clear the NFL is trying to enforce the fundamental method of tackling instead of a take him down however you want free for all. This. This year especially with all that's come out with head injuries I've tried to be reasonable about any flag on hits to the helmet/qb that I'd used to be upset about. Yes, these players get paid well, but I don't think someone should get brain damage just to protect my idea of football.
  19. Mizzou and Vandy last night had a GREAT game. I honestly don't remember a time where a lead was built up over 3 points.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 12:28 AM) I'm in a bit of a rut. Graduating in May with a degree in Business Administration/Management, and have no interest in pursuing sales, accounting, finance or marketing related jobs. My passion is still there for sports and I've decided that sports information at the university level is the way to go, or to get a job within the university setting closer to home. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there are any jobs in that. I write well. I communicate decently but I am not energized by people. I was offered a graduate assistantship here but I am not sure if I can stomach two more years of business courses that I won't ever use just to stay here...the only other program is the Master's of Organizational Leadership and I don't think that is helpful to employers. Are there any PR/Communications related jobs or should I just go get a Master's in PR/Sport Management? Also have an interest in education again. Does this situation sound familiar where you're about to graduate and have no idea of what to do next, but want to avoid getting sucked in by these crappy jobs with "unlimited earning potential" or jobs at Enterprise where you are working 50+ hours a week? My only ideas are to either take the grad assistantship and stay in school till I'm 25 for a degree I won't use and will put a C effort into in exchange for work experience in something that I want to do, go home and work part-time while I get an internship or volunteer in the field I'm interested in, or should I just enter the full-time work force doing whatever "they" tell me to do? The economy dictates that you can't be 100% happy in what you're doing anyway since if you have a job you should be happy about it... EDIT: Also thought about career counseling, as sad as that is. I would say to keep your mind a bit more open. There are a lot of things you think may suck that are actually pretty interesting when you have your own stake in the claim. You probably will find the stuff you think is interesting kind of sucks. 2 years later I wouldn't have imagined how interested i'd be in internet start-ups and planning on going back for an MBA.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) I never said I knew more than anyone about her. Maybe you should stop implying all kind of things from 5 sentences I've written in this thread. It's more a general statement about how mercilessly political and other commentators, including those on message boards, attack people they know nothing personal about while said person is alive, then the complete opposite when said person passes away. Nevermind, you keep feigning sadness like she was your aunt or something and I'll stay out of the thread. I don't recall people mercilessly talking s*** about elizabeth edwards while she was alive.
  22. Mizzou vs. vandy...me and my gf have bets on this as it's our respective schools. I hope mizzou's strength (causing TOs) can dominate Vandy's weakness (TO's)
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) lol. You know I like you. But you're pretty naive. I ain't sacrificing no coin for nobody. I can't expect anybody else to. pretty much.
  24. "Not to speak ill of the dead, but she has come off as having quite a few issues of her own from what I have read. Not necessarily just the victim most people think. " "Read game change" I find it incredibly shallow to bring your opinion based off one mark halperin book to act like you know more about her than the rest of us who are sad she passed. We all read the book.
