  1. The yankees would never do that lol. The yankees may very well get soto, but they aren't trading out Judge this year.
  2. I remember same was said about Betts. "He's testing FA no matter what!" We know what Soto wants. He just turned down an offer to get the most guaranteed money of all time. He said no. He wants guaranteed money + highest AAV. He wants precedent. Boras wants precedent. You give him 13 years $475 gives you 36.5 Mill / yr and highest guarantees ever. It doesn't beat Scherzer but we know that. Does that get it done? You may need to go to 13 years $500 mill ($38 mill). That gives you the WOW round number. That gives you the highest position player AV. I guarantee he doesn't turn that down and goes for FA with 2 years riding on health.
  3. I would say no, but my grand plan is not to trade eloy but instead Giolito and then go after Perez, in the hopes we sign a pitcher in 2022-3 class which looks great. And trade Giolito + for pieces to get Soto, and then trading Eloy to get Perez all feels like too much of a shakeup. But if sox go to Giolito and say this is our best long-term offer, and he declines, you can then trade him. I mean...I'd trade him to the Mariners.
  4. Basically gets you to bidding of Montgomery, Vera, Harrison, Bailey, Colas OR Mario Camilletti You've subtracted $12 million. Can you trade now for Corbin too? That gets you closer. Not there. I think you probably need a better trade than I got you from Eloy haha
  5. Eloy is completely cost controlled. His options are team options and he never has an annual cost that exceeds AJ Pollock. He was still a league average hitter last year and still has potential someone will bet on out of a team that preaches ground balls. I would say a team like the giants would go after Eloy. I could see the Rangers going after Eloy. Red sox. Orioles. Could they get Kyle Harrison + Patrick Bailey for eloy? I think so, and that adds a top 100 guy, a former first round pick rehab project, and opens up an outfield spot for Pollock/Vaughn.
  6. I wish we could add polls mid thread. Interested to know a breakdown of the thought process of: - I would like the white sox to go after Juan Soto because it is a rare opportunity and he would make a difference (even if I'm aware it is unlikely and jerry does not sign $500mill checks) - I do not want the white sox to go after Soto because if the sox will get fleeced - I do not want the white sox to go after Soto because it isn't a good idea - I feel a need to say it isn't going to happen and need to have an option or else I will just write it out over and over again as if it is very compelling.
  7. FRAA, which is the best metric for OF defense, has him as fine and much improved over last year. It certainly doesn't diminish a 135 wRC+ offense on a team starved for it. That's fun with small samples, but it is what it is. He's ok to use in LF. Not ok to ship out because DH is taken. That is a different problem to solve.
  8. I am incredibly pro going after Soto but I just don't see the point if you trade vaughn. Absolutely try to parlay Eloy into parts for Soto, but Vaughn? The point of going all in for soto is not to tread water.
  9. It's too close to a wash. Let's pin Soto as 6.5 WAR, because his defense drags him. Vaughn is dragged by his horrendous RF numbers which he should not be forced into playing. But I'd put him at 2.. Kopech is dragged by IP, but still is safely 2 WAR. That's 4.5. Martin you can't bank on even being positive, much as I like him. but I'll give him 1. That's 3 WAR net positive. But then Soto is likely to break all records for his arb numbers. And kopechs will be hampered by injuries and the very bizarre bias against starting pitchers. Vaughn is still pre-arb. Giolito made 4 million in Arb 1, and had a year as one of the best pitchers in baseball. So Kopech is likely less, maybe $3 mill. Very likely given that he's already at $18mill in arb 2 that soto is looking at $25 mill and $30mill. So that 3 WAR deficit gets further eaten into the amount of WAR you can add for $20mill. For Hahn, that's zero, but really it's at least 2. It's really not worth it, and trading your 135 wRC guy for the solid 155 wRC guy is ...it's just not the reason you trade for a 155 wRC guy.
  10. Ryan Burrowes with a homer! He's a 17 year old of note (him, guillermo rodriguez and Erick Hernandez are the three notable signings aside from chappy). And Chappy added a triple. Guillermo Rodriguez also had 2 hits, but Erick Hernandez has cooled off a bit the last few weeks and strikeouts have risen, nearly 25%. Would like to see a bit more power before the years over and a cut down on Ks.
  11. who are typically the best follows for this?
  12. I liked @ChiSox59s more but glad to see they are going for a sling shot throwing all their guys CLE this weekend. Lynn, please be go
  13. yeah just print a futuresox sticker
  14. officially graduating Jose Mendoza to "DSL pitcher I will try to remember to look for" https://www.mlb.com/player/jose-mendoza-800070?stats=career-r-pitching-minors&year=2022 Good size at 6'2", 18 Y.O. 3 ERA with 26Ks in 21 IP and he walks too much but today he didn't walk any. Does he throw good stuff? No idea.
  15. "why are people talking about the biggest story in baseball"
  16. yeah I was following template but they can definitely still out do most every other org with Marte + Brash
  17. Do we think sox would offer Soto a qualifying offer in 2025?
  18. When the sox traded Sale the top farm systems in baseball were Dodgers ,Boston, Cubs, Astros, Braves, Nationals, Pirates. Yankees In other words, the top farms in baseball belonged to the best, most competitive teams in baseball. It was an incredible time to sell. This year, the top farms in baseball are: 1) Seattle 2) Rays 3) Pirates 4) Orioles 5) Royals 6) Tigers 7) Reds 8- Dodgers 9) Rangers 10) Diamondbacks The difference? Seattle, Rays, Dodgers are there. Dodgers are the big threat because they would get soto just because they can. And they can, there are contracts which can roll off. But their best prospects are again catchers, and they just sent out a top catcher last year for Turner/Scherzer. Seattle can. Marte/Kirby sends a top position player and top Pitcher. They are in a competitive window now. I think it's a real threat there. That is the best comparison to Moncada/Kopech. If I'm the nats I don't particulalry want a pitcher that's already up, but it is a legitimately great package. The Rays can, and they might because they would value the 2.5 years. Josh Lowe/Baz gives + one of their thousand good prospects gives two mlb ready players and more depth. I don't know if they will, but rays could easily get this. SO those are the big threats. But after that, hard to see pirates/orioles/royals/tigers/reds/rangers/diamondbacks jumping in. Hard to see why the dodgers wouldn't do this. After all, they aren't far removed from trading for Trayce Thompson and folks they've had a Jake Lamb/TT outfield. Bellinger has not bounced back. They have a ton of payroll they could shed that is older next year. but their prospect package would be this: Diego Cartaya (awesome, but a young catcher already seeing back problems). Bobby Miller (#38 prospect, and I think he's gonna be pretty sweet), Miguel Vargas (legit awesome). I don't see Cartaya as a fit, but Miller/Vargas is a great package but if we used some pieces we could beat. Seattle I just have a hard time believing would go for it but I hope they do. The Yankees will wave Jasson Dominguez and ask you to thank them for offering him. The Padres I could see rizzo liking less than their rankings. Basically you'd need a 3-way deal, there is no way around that. It would need to have SOME pieces, and maybe Crochet/Eloy are what you need there. But you HAVE to freakin try because guess what? I just mentioned teams you are theoretically trying to beat for a world series.
  19. He has a broken finger and phillies are "competitive" right now
  20. I think this is much smarter.
