7/20 Game
Ryan Burrowes with a homer! He's a 17 year old of note (him, guillermo rodriguez and Erick Hernandez are the three notable signings aside from chappy). And Chappy added a triple. Guillermo Rodriguez also had 2 hits, but Erick Hernandez has cooled off a bit the last few weeks and strikeouts have risen, nearly 25%. Would like to see a bit more power before the years over and a cut down on Ks.

officially graduating Jose Mendoza to "DSL pitcher I will try to remember to look for" https://www.mlb.com/player/jose-mendoza-800070?stats=career-r-pitching-minors&year=2022 Good size at 6'2", 18 Y.O. 3 ERA with 26Ks in 21 IP and he walks too much but today he didn't walk any. Does he throw good stuff? No idea.

Do we think sox would offer Soto a qualifying offer in 2025?

If the Sox trade for Juan Soto we have a chance.
When the sox traded Sale the top farm systems in baseball were Dodgers ,Boston, Cubs, Astros, Braves, Nationals, Pirates. Yankees In other words, the top farms in baseball belonged to the best, most competitive teams in baseball. It was an incredible time to sell. This year, the top farms in baseball are: 1) Seattle 2) Rays 3) Pirates 4) Orioles 5) Royals 6) Tigers 7) Reds 8- Dodgers 9) Rangers 10) Diamondbacks The difference? Seattle, Rays, Dodgers are there. Dodgers are the big threat because they would get soto just because they can. And they can, there are contracts which can roll off. But their best prospects are again catchers, and they just sent out a top catcher last year for Turner/Scherzer. Seattle can. Marte/Kirby sends a top position player and top Pitcher. They are in a competitive window now. I think it's a real threat there. That is the best comparison to Moncada/Kopech. If I'm the nats I don't particulalry want a pitcher that's already up, but it is a legitimately great package. The Rays can, and they might because they would value the 2.5 years. Josh Lowe/Baz gives + one of their thousand good prospects gives two mlb ready players and more depth. I don't know if they will, but rays could easily get this. SO those are the big threats. But after that, hard to see pirates/orioles/royals/tigers/reds/rangers/diamondbacks jumping in. Hard to see why the dodgers wouldn't do this. After all, they aren't far removed from trading for Trayce Thompson and folks they've had a Jake Lamb/TT outfield. Bellinger has not bounced back. They have a ton of payroll they could shed that is older next year. but their prospect package would be this: Diego Cartaya (awesome, but a young catcher already seeing back problems). Bobby Miller (#38 prospect, and I think he's gonna be pretty sweet), Miguel Vargas (legit awesome). I don't see Cartaya as a fit, but Miller/Vargas is a great package but if we used some pieces we could beat. Seattle I just have a hard time believing would go for it but I hope they do. The Yankees will wave Jasson Dominguez and ask you to thank them for offering him. The Padres I could see rizzo liking less than their rankings. Basically you'd need a 3-way deal, there is no way around that. It would need to have SOME pieces, and maybe Crochet/Eloy are what you need there. But you HAVE to freakin try because guess what? I just mentioned teams you are theoretically trying to beat for a world series.

He has a broken finger and phillies are "competitive" right now

Post-break rotation
I think this is much smarter.

Thank you for mentioning this, it is different. That said I think think talent-wise soto does exceed sale a bit and I would assume position players get a bit more of a premium than pitching...but I am not sure about it. I can't remember the last pre-first contract position player that moved where it wasn't the last .5 year before FA.

2022 MLB Draft Thread
The law review of the draft is very good. I think vs. other drafts we really did get 6 solid guys rather than the no doubt 2-3 of the last two drafts. And maybe we continue to find solid player depth in the 11-20 rounds (sox really have done well there. Kudos for the list yesterday I believe @southsider2k5 pulled - Zevala, Mendick, Engel, Bummer, Martin, foster & a few more all from day 3. Not super stars, but for years we couldn't get a call up to be productive) Jonathan Cannon is definitely going to be traded to the Guardians in 2 years for a plug in player lol.

And on top of that I refuse to just pre-filter my brain on what the white sox should be doing to what JR will allow. Like why get prospects? JR won't actually invest in a premium player development and analytics dept. There's no point.

Loidel Chapelli
whoa whoa whoa whoa...Chappelli is only 20 dude!

It is pre-allocating payroll that is certain to be paid to a specific resource yes.
-
If the Sox trade for Juan Soto we have a chance.
Yes yes the sox aren't trading for soto but if you sculpted the perfect player that turns all of our weaknesses into a strength you'd make Juan Soto available.

That makes sense. I'm obviously on record that sox need to get a price here at least and be aggressive, but I also agree that there really isn't a point to emptying out our farm if we are also sending out Vaughn. I still would explore trading Giolito, using that for Soto, and trying to get a Martin Perez type for the year. I actually love the 2023 pitching FA crop.

Post-break rotation
I thought this too but I was listening to maybe soxmachine and the thought would be to start spacing him out where possible to remove a scheduled start or two for inning reduction.

Post-break rotation
I still wish they would IL kopech and use Martin this month. Last year they seemed to completely forget about restrictions on Rodon, Kopech. I don't really see them having learned a whole lot yet.

You wouldn't trade Montgomery for Juan Soto?
-
Loidel Chapelli
Basically there's no reason not to be excited by what Chapelli is doing. But there's also no reason to care whether he's ranked highly enough either. Game power is always cool, I don't care if he's 2 years older, Grandal didn't go to AA and hit 15 home runs in 4 games. He hit 7 home runs in 3x the games last time he played at 18. Now he's at 8 in 26 or something. If his bat can make contact in higher levels and he is a 10-15 hr guy, that's a very nice 2b prospect.
