  1. yeah, honestly funny to me that process. "shit we just lost literally the worst guard in football...now we should replace him with a good football player"
  2. it is exhibit A that a team cannot build through free agency. The additional revenue the white sox make over their division should be plowed in a much more advanced player dev/scouting network, not just puffing our chests and signing a 4th middle reliever. The returns, they are a-diminishing. But I'm sure trout alone makes the angels look like excellent drafters over the decade.
  3. He addresses the weakness of hitting the shit out of the ball which no one on the team comes close to him. yes in theory, Grandal should not be hitting 40 wRC+ but for 3 months maybe we let his legs be super resty.
  4. If the Cards acquire Soto though, can we please stop giving them comp picks and instead give them to the true charity case of the MLB, the white sox? Change the CBA to be "competitive balance picks go to the ten smallest markets by metro population or any team owned by Jerry Reinsdorf"
  5. this is what hurts to me. I know the sox aren't getting soto for a million reasons. What I dislike is that i'd much rather sox save bullets for players like these than the million marginal players that end up being so expensive for them. They add up. When Turner became available, the sox weren't there. When Betts was available, the sox weren't there. And of course, not getting them gave them the flexibility to add *chortles*. I remember post Abreu signing, where we heard a lot about how even though they were unlikely, Sox were pushing hard to get Tanaka offering different creative deals. I really miss and just wish they still had that in them. Because now it's the sox still being supremely confident that they know better than the rest of the league, and they don't.
  6. Bears sign Michael Schofield, who played for the Chargers last year at G. Big relief, though now that we are basically at camp I have come to grips with this being the worst bears roster since 2016 I think. PFF did grade him slightly higher than Whitehair, so legit depth.
  7. I kept thinking about this article I read back during the time when we were all talking about how Tatis would bust because he had a high K rate as a 19 year old in AA, and how Shields may have panned out only because he helped fix giolito or something I can't remember anymore But boy, boy do I wish someone would say this to our trainers and some of our position players: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/wil-myers-credits-turnaround-to-james-shields-telling-him-to-quit-being-a-baby/ Again, the full story has many more details and it’s worth a read. Myers later said it was the best advice anyone had ever given him. What followed was Myers blossoming into a star. And as we all know, now Myers is one of the games biggest stars. I think Cueto could also play this role. Guy is 300 years old, had no spring training, came back and shows up every 5 days and slings it, with a bunch of 23-25 year olds that need to be rested every 3rd day and don't have to run to first. (I definitely 100% think this is our overzealous new training staff, but we need a player to push back meow.)
  8. Which is funny just because he'd be the only guy you'd pin signability concerns on. Which is why I'm not at all worried about getting 20 (maybe a junior goes back in that 11-20 rounds), it's just funny for one of the more straightfoward classes after Schultz committed.
  9. considering how college heavy the draft was I'm surprised how slow this roll out of signings has been. Again - not saying there is an issue just seems different than years past.
  10. I would definitely circle the cards. I left Rosenthal's latest extremely unconvinced by his Padres arguments. Rizzo's group are still pretty good scouts, and they may favor players not annointed by the prospect numbers.
  11. Red Sox have a similar Wild Card chance as the white sox, yet unlike the white sox have zero chance in their division. They also have a bunch-o-upcoming free agents, esp. pitching. Starting Pitchers Eovaldi, Wacha Relief Pitchers Strahm Position Players JD Martinez (bogaerts) Eovaldi not having a great year, and Strahm is injured but I believe is just a wrist bruise. Martinez is RH, but is still above average vs. RHP. And we know the one thing JR will splurge on is a positionless, past his prime slugger who is paid more than their market. Wacha would be pretty good Kopech slot guy. They are .500 and hopeless. While we are .500 and ascending.
  12. corngrats https://www.jotcast.com/chat/mlbtr-live-chat-13578.html Concerned White Sox Fan 10:54 Who looks better in black and white: David Peralta or Tyler Naquin? Mark P 10:54 Peralta would be my pick, if I'm Chicago.
  13. Placeholder thread because today is the deadline to come to an agreement on this. This article is a nice summary, but odds are no deal is struck and status quo continues. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/league-mlbpa-exchange-proposals-on-international-draft.html
  14. if TLR is the manager I have a feeling there will be a number of obstacles thrown in colas' way.
  15. I mean hell when was the last no doubter deadline win? Charles Johnson? Quintana was early and you can give it out if people want. Peavy was not added for that year. Youk was awesome in the first month and a half but cratered in Sept. Even when it came to selling, most of hahns worst work was at deadline. Rutherford, Cordell, Medeiros, Gillaspie, traded our INTL bonus pool money to shed Nate Jones. 2005 is a 'win' because of our sweet dear Blum. OK, Peavy deal no. 2, looking back that was actually an incredible deal in mlb talent (squandered) in getting Montas, Avi Garcia.
  16. He's league avg against RHP. I know that doesn't really help, but I'm putting him in the positivity box because I'm pretty certain/concerned that whomever they get in the "helps against LHP" or "power" bucket will come with equally difficult downsides ("defense").
  17. I don’t know that I’m advocating this but given that we expect Hahn to shop in the sales bin, I was thinking about Laureano. He does not help in the RH or power dept (though he’s fine there), but he could kick Robert to RF. Given the timidity Robert is playing center with, having some more actual outfielders and a real CF could help. Hes still, even after PEDs, an above average offensive player. And some of his profile seems like he’s a buy low candidate to me. Put it in the plan E bin.

Let’s see if Colas can keep this going for more than a month before proclaiming him a major league star. Until a few weeks ago he was only doing good as an older player in one of our best offensive environments.
  19. That seems like the case. Just heard some podcasts saying that Toman may have asked for more at the moment than Schultz, this would refute that.
  20. Here we go, a nice clean forum.
  21. Toman only signed for $2 mill

Great farm day. We’ll have plenty of years to worry about the hit tool but this game power we are getting from Gladney, Veras is intriguing. They may have 30 homers in W-S

Definitely fun arms for me. He at least has the Davis Martin thing where he’s had some incredible games. That he can miss bats is enough to hope he suddenly leaps in either secondaries or command

    2.5 years of Soto
