white sox and the band, RADIOHEAD
well, as far as influence goes... My Bloody Valentine's Loveless was a huge influence on grunge, as well as The pixies' Doolittle...a bit rough around the edges if you don't like black francis' yelling. 20 years...thats what 86...Fugazi - The argument... but probably big three...Slint, Nirvana, Sonic Youth. as far as hip hop...prolly Dr. Dre and Rakim, electronic - Aphex Twin or Autechres - Confield. Radios up there but i don't think they've spawned and changed the music scene as much as other bands QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 04:11 AM) Yo, name some influential bands Mags that you think eclipsed Radiohead. I'm interested as I'm a huge music fan. Lets, see, that would be 1986. I was born in 83, so a bit young to remember those bands, but I remember the mid 90's well, and early 90's not so much. Here are some more off the top of my head. Nirvana Radiohead Beck Pavement The Smashing Pumpkins Outkast haha, awesome...very good, i was gonna put pavement but people say weezer did more despite being affected by pavement which were influenced by the fall...i guess what it all comes down to is everyone sounds like the velvets...

white sox and the band, RADIOHEAD
QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 03:30 AM) I see you are a Slint fan, but I think the Radiohead statement might be true. I'm a huge radiohead fan, so the idea of thom yorke as a white sox fan intrigues me. With that said, I highly doubt that they are fans. I'm guessing it was for a show in chicago so they improvised something that the fans in the area would like. how many brits are baseball fans... probably a nice thing for the crowd tis all... not many deploderers... (and also slint launched post rock...gotta be somethin said for that...radiohead launched coldplay, keane, muse...oh god...bucketoyuck)

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) I was a big fan of Van Sant, really like Drugstore Cowboy and my Own Private Idaho....sigh and then I watched Elephant. :headshake Anyone seen 'Prozac Nation' with Christina Ricci? Every guy has dated a woman like her character, worth the rental. Last days was almost as unbearable as elephant... use some f***ing music for christs sake...

Also picked up "Yo La Tengo Are Murdering the Classics." such a great title and nice warmup for their new album (which is good...amazingly consistent.) ^referring to yo la tengo

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 02:21 AM) No I was not informed of this. well...long story short, he came to mizzou, my friend had an interview with him...i tagged along...was told to wait outside during interview...then he came out and i said "an honor to meet you...ehhaofh" that was the beginning of a question i've since blocked out of my mind...he then looked at me and said "whats your name" and i said " ben" and he said "nice... to... meet...you" and walked away... i do think, however, that grand funk has been given far less credit than they deserve...a lot of bands emulated them for a while.

Anyone ever meet a "famous" musician before?
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Took a really cool Indie Rock class back in college. Got to hang out at Steve Albini's studio one day, and then Jeff Tweedys loft on the Northside another day. If I had been a fan of Indie music before I had taken that class these two experiences would have been high on my list of coolest things I've ever done. Albini was a character... Tweedy was his mellow self... Very cool stuff though. did tweedy fall in love w/ your girlfriend.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 29, 2006 -> 04:51 AM) Erase Eratta has a couple of good cd's. i really like the one mastered by weasel walter (i think it has boxing grasshoppers on it). i saw them live and they totally couldn't play their instruments. good studio band, bad live band. oh, and it doesn't really matter what they look like. 90 day men definately aren't a festival group. i'm friends with some of those guys and i doubt the'll be playing again any time soon. only reason they played intonation was the money. the Boredoms are great. they've been around for a while and a lot of people know who they are. Yes, the boredoms are great...but not a lot of people know who they were there. And what was special was their set up...the three drums , it was a setup i didn't expect. my reviews were based on performances not bands careers.
