I mean, regardless, if Cease is 3 then the point stands that you have Carlos and Kopech as two multiple inning relievers who can effectively get batters out. Ruiz can get people out in an inning. Keuchel can pitch innings ineffectively...so the only time he'd be somewhat of a help is an insanely long game, but even then isn't he just losing us it and ending it anyway?

Players like Hamilton have more value than ever in the playoffs, look at what Terrance Gore can do. Feels like every time Hamilton can get on base he scores.

I am certain Ruiz could give up 3-4 runs over multiple innings as well. They've stretched Kopech out recently, and in this series I doubt cease plays. Obviously some 15 inning game could happen but a 3rd long man who hasn't shown he can get people out in short or long stints doesn't seem much better than Ruiz, who with clean innings has just as much potential for a 2 inning stint.

Yeah, I think the long view though is they gave Romy a shot and he was fine but they went with a more known quantity esp. with defense. Mendick is more likely than Romy to walk or make contact of some kind. Romy much more likely to hit with some power. That's attractive off bench but they aren't on the margins.

same. It was clear his value was nill when he stunk it up in bullpen. The only thing with Keuchel I still believe in is he can reinvent himself still, but it will have to be in the offseason. He's always worked within the margins though, and it may be he lost too much for guile to make up.

I love Romy but Danny has proven he can provide good infield defense. Sox tried to play Romy all over, he'll have a longer career, but neither of those guys are in there for the bat. Not terribly surprised. With Hamilton making roster and Engel back, Leury can be mostly the backup infield anyway.
