  1. I assume that's the case now, but who knows how many of these guys lacked any place to practice.
  2. I get that 2009 was the trout year and was a particularly loaded draft, but I can't believe how snake-bitten people still are of a 23rd overall pick now eleven drafts ago. Going for an athletic, upside college outfielder is not the worst idea in the world there. Fulmer is 10x the bust yet doesn't seem to embody the short right hander the way that jared mitchell is a cautionary tale for all athletes. And to be real, that draft had terrible picks round by round. Trayce Thompson is sandwiched between Nolan Arenado (2 picks) and Jason Kipnis. David Holmberg is picked before DJ Lemahieu, Corbin and Kyle Seager. This is the draft the cardinals drafted like 15 starters. I say no big ten catchers ever! No whatever David Holmberg was!
  3. Would the scout for dalquist be the scout for Abel? edit well nvm Y2Jimmy spilled ze beans already
  4. Sounds like Bowser A student of the game, Bowser loves to talk hitting and has the chance to develop into a run-producing corner infielder at the next level. The one thing that might make it tough is his commitment to Stanford, which his mother attended.
  5. If they do that, they better get a guy unlikely to sign. Forget his name, but there's that one hard-commit to stanford right? I guess aside from the pathetic if its about money, isn't next year supposed to be really good? Maybe they calculated the risk of not being able to scout traditionally/lack of numbers/bigger bonus pool made going for what's available next year was better option?
  6. I mean...i'm assuming cleveland gets both of calabrese and Hence. Calabrese is pretty small isn't he?
  7. I'd say given the draft position they were only average. Like you alluded to, it's about diversification. The white sox went severely college heavy especially from 2015-2018. Hostetler said this was to improve depth. Whether we benefited from having more competent first baseman in AA...not up to me. But the best athletes will often be picked out of high school. By drafting exclusively college and high school water polo players the sox missed out on working in some players that may be able to pair elite athleticism with elite baseball skills and grow with the competition. While you have the first round to go after the best college athletes/players, rounds 2-40 just lacked diversity in skill and body type. Should you only draft uber athletes and pass up someone with a plus- plus- refined skill? Should you only draft more developed college players? Should you only draft position players high? Should you never draft prep pitchers? You can have tendencies, but Hostetler went too far in one direction.
  8. File this under “BA writeups I like” Ricky Tiedemann Notes: Ht: 6-3 | Wt: 200 | B-T: L-L Commit/Drafted: San Diego State Age At Draft: 17.8 Few players raised their stock in limited time more this spring than Tiedemann, whose brother Tai is a pitcher in the Rangers organization. An interesting but hardly elite prospect entering the year, Tiedemann came out showing increased velocity and feel for his secondaries and put himself among the top players in a loaded Southern California draft class. Tiedemann is an elite athlete with a physical 6-foot-3 frame, big hands and a tantalizing left arm. His fastball sits around 88-91 mph and touches 93, and his projectable body and athleticism make it easy to envision him reaching the mid-90s once he fills out. He complements his fastball with a potentially plus changeup, and his average hard slider gives him a quality third offering. Tiedemann is one of the youngest players in the class and will still be 17 on draft day. His only drawback is he broke his right, non-throwing wrist on a collision at first base late in the season. Tiedemann is committed to San Diego State, but clubs are keen to buy him out of that commitment with his athleticism, youth and projection.
  9. Yeah let’s do everyone’s “dream won’t happen” scenario. option 1: take 1 guy underslot and you can take anyone that has been in a recent mock past 20 option 2: unlikely fall - anyone mocked 5 or later at 11, and a dream realistic 2nd rounder My dream underslot over slot is 11 with Howard then 2nd round with Bitsko option 2 is Meyer then Jared Jones/Wynn.
  10. Man...I went Detmers but feel wrong and it should be Abel?
  11. Contrary to this boards opinion, athletes are good.
  12. Or the poor reds.
  13. That's one thing from listening to Shirley talk, i'd have been surprised if at the end of this...albeit very limited draft, if the sox didn't land athletes.

So much of my civil war history I learned in western suburbs of illinois was lost cause history. We certainly had a pretty in-depth dive into civil rights era, and perhaps its because many teachers were around for it. But Civil War thru WW1 was very undercovered.

Super elitist to act like celtic pride isn't an information source.
  16. perhaps we should draft the most polished player since whomever we draft will not be able to be developing in team activities 2 of the next 3 years.
  17. hmm scared of his fit with sox. I feel like Jared Jones is that undersized righthander that tends to do well as a second rounder. But i'd like college pitching at that point and I guess if we get to order up I think McMahon or Mlodsinzki, but people will yell at me, so anyway i guess van eyk, shuster, cicconi.
  18. Slow, grant money just got delivered so there will be a lag to hiring. Though most counties are effectively in phase 4 in terms of numbers they won't be able to graduate until the contact tracers are in place to track at least 60% (now it's at 30%).
  19. Used to be sanguine on Howard but really would like this pick. Big believer.

The City Council does not appear to have specifics yet. At it’s heart, the dissolution is just getting out of the union contract. There will still be police, but clearly they intend to think hard about which jobs belong to police and which belong with other depts. Newark moved most of their cops to beat cops, and hired civilians as investigators among other changes and was successful. Do police as formed need to do road safety policing? Crowd control? Should domestic disputes sit elsewhere? Police responsibilities have been stretched (as have teachers) as a catch all. It’s possible to rethink that.
  21. For our restaurants sake let’s hope July.
  22. New case low, only 867 reported in IL, 4% pos rate.
  23. I’ll say this for Crochet, Sale had a full solid junior year of starting and excelling. Crochet wasn’t giving that. With Detmers you are getting much more production to base stuff on.
  24. All aces are the exception not the rule. Of course there are 100 more examples of those that took a step back compared with to those that took a step forward, that’s baseball. But Nola was a good pitcher before he was a great pitcher. Curiously don’t remember people raving how he’s likely to add velo...almost like you can’t guess. Detmers has a good set of skills to build off of. If he takes a step back he’s in trouble, welcome to every prospect.
  25. I extremely still don’t know. I still like Abel a lot and believe in Howard. Cant make up my mind on Soderstrom after Laws take, and am now higher on PCA. Not a fan of 19 year old picks, and then don’t know what to make of Bitsko/Hassel
