And centralized quarantine!
-
Daily new cases were headed slightly downward but this 4k number puts it upward.
-
Whew well things definitely got dumped as @StrangeSox said. 29,200 (!) tests reported in Illinois today 4000 cases confirmed 13.5% positive rate So more of that slow trudging downward trend in % pos. If you take the 5 day average it's 13%. Going down sl-o-o-o-wly

Greg you should definitely go riot right now.

Owning a house is as good an analogy to being a baseball owner as comparing it to businesses.
-
They own a franchise in a league association with incredible barriers to any competition (a legal monopoly!). There are markets in everything, there is business in baseball. But applying somebody starting an IT consulting business to buying a baseball franchise where you have legal right to prevent any other baseball team competition from operating for local dollars is silly.
-
That's a meaningless statement.
-
Now do baseball.

Yes I do think there has been a poor attempt to solve clear problem areas while everyone has been sheltered down. There have been so many pressing needs though, first and foremost the month long fight just to get appropriate amounts of PPE, then appropriate levels of testing. They are just now getting to next protocols and now the logistics of nursing homes specifically are enormous. But ideally you at least get rapid tests to these facilities with enough supplies to do the testing you describe. But there still needs to be a backup for when the virus gets in and then there's a lot of difficult contingencies. Those places are built with the model of care being affordable through it being in a concentrated area, you separate that and you will need to find more nurses and help. It's tough.

They are a pretty massive population. Ideally you spread them out, pop-up some long term care facilities a la the pop-up ICUs they've done. But they made 3k ICU beds in chicago...and there are 100k people living in long-term assisted care facilities in IL. I do think it gets to testing. These are people that aren't mobile, so if you are short tests already you likely don't have anywhere near what's needed to just go to every one or ship portable test units and get accurate readings. It's a tough problem. When some "at home" test units are available it may be better to help identify problem areas earlier and possibly find places where they can move sick patients to while not infecting healthy ones.

I don't think global trends are that helpful in predicting IL. I watch that site daily and thur/friday being bigger testing report days and sundays being undercounted death days are about the only pattern. If tuesday was catch-up day in IL, you would see a bigger difference between Mondays and Tuesdays than you see below: Monday Reports IL May 11th - T: 12441 C 1266 %POS - 10% May 4th - T:13834 C 2341 %POS - 17% April 27th - T: 12676 C 1980 %POS - 16% April 20th - T: 5040 C 1151 %POS - 23% April 13th - T: 5033 C 1173 %POS - 23% April 6th - T: 3959 C 1006 %POS - 25% Tuesday Reports IL 5/12 - ??? 5/5 - T 13139 C 2122 %POS - 16% 4/28 - T 14561 C 2219 %POS - 15% 4/21 - T 6639 C 1551 %POS - 23% 4/14 - T 4848 C 1222 %POS - 25% 4/7 - T 5790 C 1287 %POS - 22%

So this is pretty good: https://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/testing-guidance Testing is also available for those with or without symptoms who: Work in a health care facility Work in correctional facilities, such as jails or prisons Serve as first responders, such as paramedics, emergency medical technicians, law enforcement officers or firefighters Support critical infrastructure, such as workers in grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, gas stations, public utilities, factories, childcare and sanitation
-
Sounds right, I wonder if the drive-thru centers are more liberal with appointments. I also know some immediate care places like the one downtown on michigan ave have testing, for places like that maybe it's whomever schedules an appt.
-
Sheer volume says it should be more open than that but a lot of testing centers by me that have been written about in papers say that you need symptoms.
-
Depends on the activities, housing, etc.
-
definitely for deaths, but I haven't seen it be much different in regard to %positive or cases though end of weeks definitely tend to see our biggest test #s.
-
ye gods, maybe we are finally turning the corner in Illinois. While testing again declined, only 1,266 cases reported on 12500 tests, a 10% positive rate, after a decline yesterday put it at 12%, which was a 2% decline from the day prior. It is unlikely to be this precipitous, but we've had a number of successes from the 20k tests in a day a few days ago to real declines for the first time in a month. https://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/covid19-statistics

I'm applauding them for starting with a revenue sharing model rather than dealing with % cuts to individual salaries which is where I thought it would start. Them haggling up front with this makes me feel very hopeful.
-
I may be wrong and I cna't find the article, but I'm fairly certain that on average mlb players do better than 50% revenue in their salaries. This is almost certainly a pay cut on %, and obviously will be a cut to the overall pie.
-
If govt wants people wearing masks, they should set up trucks in front of grocery stores passing out masks. Government has made compliance incredibly onerous on individuals. When you want a lot of people to do stuff you make it easy to do stuff.
-
50/50 is fine. NBA players get 52%. I applaud both sides for doing this though, it certainly makes most sense but it sucks.

Why do you think South Korea was the most draconian? They were a success of testing and tracing, not shutdowns. Their shut downs have been targeted. They are literally playing baseball right now.
