Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
no because I think most fans just want to get the good players this offseason and not just happy the sox have a healthy cash flow.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
I would feel this way if I was the rangers or twins fans, but as a sox fan - them executing the most obvious moves was way more comfortable for me than them being "creative". If they aren't being creative in turning budgetary allowances into real cash, they aren't good at it.

nuh-uh man, no way phillies can afford more players (phillies sign castellanos from sox)

wish the phillies would stop blowing smoke.

If you are willing to spend 25 mill/yr on a 4 win pitcher...why not spend an additional 10 mil per year and get a 9 win one.

Badler Day - our 2020 Intl Review
Mena's are the types of write-ups you want from a 16 year old. I really dislike how the sox keep going for young power/unprojectable body types though. They seem to end up with a lot of 19 year old first baseman out of international.

Badler Day - our 2020 Intl Review
He pushed these back after an article on how there was too little info on players since they signed earlier and earlier and the teams typically hid them after verbal agreements. Highlights: Yolbert: Tatis: Bailey: Veras: There is more so this is being nice. Small write-up, several follow-ups to 2018-19 class.

Cole Hamels to the Braves, 1 year $18 Million.
Is it going to prevent them from signing anyone? No. They aren't near the lux tax. They have plenty of money.

Cole Hamels to the Braves, 1 year $18 Million.
It's a one year deal, who cares?

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
Guys I'm starting to be concerned you actually think he is made out of glass.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
OTOH sox could use some good intensity in the club house, and I've never heard people didn't like bumgarner on their team.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
pitchers I like but are high variability (aside from ryu) Decent chance at 3rd starter production: Miley Decent chance at fourth starter production Porcello (move him back to primarily 2 seam/sinker) Jordan Lyles Pineda (gopher ball) Martin Perez (pair cutter with coop) So yeah, bumgarner starts to look better.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
Yeah, like if they had signed lance lynn last year instead of going after innings eater nova.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
talking about what the white sox should do >>>>> limiting ourselves to what the white sox will do (kevin gausman is available. only 28, could be interesting !!?!?!)

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
(the white sox if they fail on wheeler should pivot to rendon)

Damn...this is good.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
I mean, 5 years 110 with a sixth year team option for 20 million with a 10 million buyout.
-
Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
I don't think 200 innings is even needed anymore. It's nice when it happens. And, I mean, trade him then.
-
Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
Cool but you have him for 8 years. If you want to have perfect production for every year in a pitchers contract don't sign any free agents.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
I mean forbes valuations are trash but sox fans and illinois residents have subsidized reinsdorf's fortune over the years and the least he could do is throw some of it into the entertainment bucket for us proles instead of passing it down to his kids to mismanage the bulls.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
Yeah I'd much rather be 8 years on cole than 6 on wheeler. Honestly same with stras.
-
Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
yes because we have so little information about years 6-10. CBA, revenue, potential farm system, player performance, team holes, etc.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
This is where I refuse to align my expectations to just what sox have made themselves capable of to what they should be capable of. They absolutely have the room to go after mookie betts next year even if they signed Wheeler. They choose not to. But they choose not to, and then weirdly also choose not to play in international, and have not brought in nearly enough accountability into PD and scouting. So...yes I'm not going to just say, yay! Castellanos! Our decade is solved!
-
Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
Yeah, I guess what I'm annoyed by is the idea that making sure we are competitive in years 6-10 of this decade is so much more important than ensuring we are competitive in years 1-5. We still have quite a bit of ground to make up. And players like Robert with swing and miss may well not be amazing their first year. I would also just like us to get some elite pieces, and then play around the value margins after this. Is wheeler elite? No, but I do think he'll be playoff starting pitcher and we desperately need one, and they are hard to find. That the third best pitcher in this offseason feels like one is a benefit. Ryu obviously can be that guy but he's a russian roulette FA in that he either plays and is good or just...doesn't exist.

The thing that I don't like about Castellanos is he is a player we'd be committed to but all also one that you'd ideally like an upgrade from. He's an upgrade to our current situation but not a fixture. I do think I'm more pessimistic on him than most, I liked him a lot last offseason but always wanted to move him to 1b. Vaughn and abreu situations changed it.
