  1. I disagree. I think people are overthinking this. If McCann expects to be paid like an all star catcher then you don't extend, but he is likely not an idiot. he can guarantee extra years, get a bonus for next year, and sox can cement in place a veteran catcher his pitchers love and can mentor multiple young catchers in place. He's not going to get an extension of 3 years 60 million.
  2. I was wondering that, I'm going to assume 5 million? JT REalmuto got 5.2 mill in arb 2 with much more production and consistency. I don't know how arbs factor in all star bumps like this. So buy out next year a bit higher, say $6 mill. Then what are you paying for a 2 year extension after that, I'd say maybe go for a wilson ramos contract of 2 for 19, so all in for 3 for 25 million?
  3. Vaughn 0-3 Troutwine has quietly battled back from his slump. Now at .292 and .803 ops. Good for him.
  4. definitely, it's just absolutely a reason to apply skepticism that he will be amazing.
  5. I hope, but, feels like that should be in AZ.
  6. http://www.writesox.com/2019/07/fuck-it-lets-write-about-aj-reed.html just leaving this here.
  7. This is exactly what I was thinking when seeing him struggle to catch up to fastballs. I am convinced however his obp skills will translate in that no pitcher is that accurate, but if he cannot take advantage of them pitching in the zone with fastballs then that will be unfortunate.
  8. if this dude is stashed all year in DSL for some tax reasons to help sign him in the 2019 class I am just going to lose it.
  9. When adding in Glass we are talking about a super crowded AZL outfield, and no Great Falls outfielders have been particularly prodigious to move up.
  10. They have signed really small classes, this year too. I mean the yankees committed like 90% of their budget to one guy this year and still signed 10+ guys. Sox signed 5. But that said, 2017 and then 18 saw a number of guys signed after J2 that have ended up producing so far in low levels - which I honestly have no idea whether it matters because its impossible to get info on how scouts/sox view them - i.e. if their production is a result of big growth or if its just feasting on crap players.
  11. Almost all of their current depth that bumped them up was added in 2014-2015 in international or draft. Robert being a top 5 pick is absolutely worth it, but that is where not having signed a super class in intl hurts a bit in depth.
  12. I actually am not even sure if its the group in 11-30 as much as a bit after, but there is actually some very promising youth which I feel like has the possibility of blossoming into top ten prospects versus a few years ago where as soon as they entered the system it seemed like they would be what they were, an 11-30 guy (like Sheets, pilkington, etc). Even while several are struggling in assignments where they are very young, they are holding their own, improving at points, and hold out hope that they can put it together. That's great. But yes, due to graduations alone it will be a big drop, I'm not sure this is guaranteed top 15 due to the drop in depth.
  13. Not really, people are just severely undercounting them because they are prep pitchers moreso than if they were college outfielders. By the same token, why are we rating Vaughn so high when he has barely played a game? I will take the profile of prep pitcher with advanced strike throwing ability, low to mid 90s fastball, and good physique over a high 80s throwing college pitcher who has a 5.5 ERA in A+. Yes, part of this is because Dalquist hasn't failed yet, but he is already more valuable because of what he offers. Thompson is a bit more of a variable but he has much higher upside of being a starter, versus pilkington who I just can't believe will be more than depth.
  14. Reed is honestly the same gamble as palka/delmonico except they aren't acting like he can play RF. He strikes out a lot. He has to show he has changed and something will work now in the majors.
  15. Vaughn is not waiting in the wings, he's in low-A right now. Collins is apparently still tracked to develop as a catcher, so he is better served doing it more often in the minors. Jose's time isn't affected by this. So they took a shot on a player their scouting dept liked for marginal cost. I actually like most that they did this and are going to try him out in the majors, otherwise he would have had no time to show anything.
  16. Castillo is one of my all time least favorite Sox.
  17. Oh man Dalquist and Thompson are no doubters ahead of pilkington for me and absolutely above burger. I'm not sure dalquist is behind any pitcher after dunning.
  18. Yeah, the biggest takeaway for me was the blurb on sheets. Just the kinda stuff you wait to hear on. Knowing that his offensive turnaround was the result of some specific work to tap into more power makes me more of a believer. Grateful for the work BA put in. Stiever definitely has my interest. Really interested to see what sox think of him.
  19. I would mention that Madrigal was the only collegiate prospect in A+ last year, so even putting Vaughn in A+ would almost certainly be the most aggressive assignment in his draft class. Putting him in AA would be that and then some. Burger was in A the entire time. So I do think sox are appropriately aggressive with the more polished college prospects, I just dont see the point of the short tour in A ball (while I do see the benefit of the start in AZ).
  20. dude just doin what he does.
  21. I'm actually not sure why they like these short tours for the college players. Madrigal played 12 games in Kanny last year, I assume that's the play. Considering the whirlwind of moving, finding a place, meeting new teammates, meeting new coaches, I'd imagine it's better to just put him in the level you see him starting next year *if you think he is appropriate for that level.
  22. https://buff.ly/2G5E5TV Y2Jimmy just posted this, has some great info on changes made from Sheets and info on Stiever.
  23. Madrigal single. Forbes 2-3 with a 3b.
  24. Stiever has really become something
