  1. The thome trade obviously worked out for sox and then some (he is still one of my favorite white sox ever), but I laugh when I think about that trade in today's lens. You mean to tell me the sox traded their starting center fielder and top pitching prospect for an expensive, 35 year old DH whose previous year had only played a third of the season with a bad back and was terrible in those 50 games? What are you thinking! Looking at some of the ages of players that the sox successfully traded for and produced is wild.
  2. Yes although maybe they like a mystery team because they assume teams collide and ask each other if they are in
  3. The good news if we were to shapeshift into a competent organization and sign harper, is his normal good year/bad year/good year pattern coincides with a really good 2021 which should just align with dominating the world with our other guys.
  4. I really just want them to do what fathom said and give him a 10 for 330 offer. I don't believe that 10 for 350 is on table. The obvious desire for machado was to hit that 300 mill mark, for harper its 330. He wants, more than the actual money, the title and respect that goes with getting the most money. He surely feels he is better than stanton. If you want him, you go get it. I feel he could easily provide enough production next 5 years to be worth that while balancing the cost control sox have on the rest of the roster. Stop worrying, white sox, about advancing player salaries and worry about building this team. An elite bat makes things sooooo much easier.
  5. I picture him alone sitting on his hotel bed with his phone in his hands staring at his last text that said" ???" and seeing the ellipsis from harper pop up, then go away, then pop up, then go away, only for a message to never arrive.
  6. That makes sense, if Giants got harper on a 3 year deal the dodgers would be asked a lot of questions on why they didn't pull the trigger when their core is in place.
  7. I don't think their offseason was bad but their division got a lot better. I didn't really like any of the mets moves but this year they are tremendously deep which can pay off in the regular season.
  8. This was pretty funny from Pedro Gomez
  9. only if the free agent ends up sucking.
  10. Can't pick a better pitcher for Moncada to get some right handed confidence.
  11. I'm still kinda excited. Until he signs, despite all the evidence of failed execution there is still a chance for them to turn around and do something different. Like in a bad tv show, where the protagonist does something completely out of character because the writers were lazy and bored.
  12. This is why I'm not particularly sympathetic to the sox dealing with disinformation from lozano. He may not have been transparent with an accurate view of the market or deadlines, but at face value he is clearly signifying their offer was not enough at the moment to sign machado. I will apply this to JR, the sox seemed obsessed with signing these guys with not a dollar more than was necessary more so then just getting the player. It clearly had a disadvantage as it both created doubt about their seriousness and opened themselves up to later bidders when they didn't sit at a high enough bid.
  13. I completely agree.
  14. I just wouldn't be shocked. Taking other info at face value, the idea was that jerry took over negotiations for this because he was a superior negotiator. He alone needs to negotiate it, and he can set up a back door with another owner (as he has prior), and tell his FO how confident he was they didn't need to budge. Then san diego came along ruined their plan.
  15. Yeah I think there has been some of the FO wrangling in the owner, I do think philly has eyes on the prize with trout, and part of that is making it known to him without colluding (lol) that they will be able to pay him so don't sign an extension.

Yeah I rarely have enough attention to lend to the college pitchers selected in the draft when they arrive their first year, In excited to see how stiever does based on your interest and the write up on pilkington and if he can add velo.
  17. wow he’s still not at 300?
  18. Adolfo and Dunning has quite good, albeit short years.
  19. The last few pages of this thread have had several posts that are way too combative. If you can’t post on this topic or the white Sox without insulting or taking pot shots at other posters, then you will miss out discussing it here when Harper actually signs.
  20. Surprised Sox didn’t change it to be a swell opt at year 4 or 5 that locked him in at 320 or allowed the opt out. That’s at least much more competitive though still at a disadvantage to straight up 300 mill
  21. They have 2 games left v hawks. They can just commit to tanking those and it would be very difficult to lose 4th
  22. He may have. He may just be seeing if by waiting a few extra days a team gets impatient
  23. I mean, philly.
  24. And part of this is removing Dunn from the equation as much as possible. Used to seem that when they didn’t mesh it was Lavines fault but it’s clear it’s pretty much Dunn’s.
