  1. If it comes at the cost of markannen/carters offensive development it will be a bad lottery ticket.
  2. They will definitely fall in love with portis and pay him even though they could easily replicate his production with an exception contract. They fall in love with their own draft picks (unless they are actually good).
  3. you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, though, so his 91% missed shots is still better.
  4. I don't know what qualifies as a hurry I guess, I'd have put it at like 12
  5. If you are making the argument the Sox aren’t using analytics effectively, make that argument. But stop making the argument Sox aren’t using analytics, and getting consistently proven wrong with examples (including your own) and then changing your argument as a counter.
  6. Also didn’t he tear his ACL in year 4? 2008-9: Boston series 2009-10: Cleveland series 2010-11: Heat series 2011-12: Sixers series / injury
  7. oh my god derrick rose is an 11 year vet that makes me feel unbelievably old
  8. Right, and team usa has trackman too I think. The influence of team usa picks and colleges with trackman definitely seems to indicate sox are drafting with a heavy eye on analytics.
  9. The original Mahomes
  10. I don't think it was luck with Aguilar. Sure, he was best of the bunch. But they made a point of using it and found some really good talent including our own Junior Guerra https://www.mlb.com/brewers/news/milwaukee-brewers-make-use-of-waiver-wire/c-222657522 I would take brewers FO in a freakin heartbeat over ours.
  11. That is so common though. It was bad but it was probably within .5 a second.
  12. Mahomes was awesome last night. I want Reid to win a superbowl. I hope their defense can stabilize enough to do it this year, prior to bears winning 3 straight.
  13. I am not advocating moving any player in advance of anyone. Jimenez, madrigal, anyone. But I am against this idea that specifically comes up about Madrigal that the player he is today is his ceiling just carried over to MLB stats. He needs to walk more, he needs to hit for more power. He needs to translate his college SB numbers to the pros. The reason people think he will be quick to pros isn't because he is a finished product, it's because he has a number of major league level skills. If he doesn't progress anything else of his, he will likely be bad to average. But the starting package is very promising, I don't think he'll ever hit for 25 home runs, but every marginal growth in power for him means so much more than for the same growth on a related player. His other skills are that strong.
  14. It's amazing that you read what I wrote and thought it validated your trubisky opinions.
  15. All I'm getting out of this thread is reaffirmation for my stance that player comps are terrible and obscure more than they clarify. Every low power, below 6ft, multi positional infielder on this forum for last 3 years is Yolmer sanchez. Uber athletic powerful high school bat? Courtney Hawkins. High power, high ks, poor positional defense? Adam Dunn.
  16. With a .242 average and 124 ks.
  17. Nicky, Davidson, Palka (realistically, though I like him)
  18. Right, and we are struggling to really understand this because our logjams are a bunch of below average bat-only players we are irrationally attached to and afraid of losing in case they "break out". Eventually (hopefully) it will be multiple good players with plus offense that we'll be happy to find the field any way they can. We won't clamor to trade out one so our lineup is easier.
  19. I have seen a few examples now of plus plus contact (astudillo) or plus plus discipline (narvaez) end up with surprising power. It may take a few years to get him to 10 home runs, but unlike the other two, he has plus speed and plus defense. He has reported plus baserunning instincts. He is said to use all of his power. He's going to hit a bunch of grounders. It's a fact. His power didn't show up in his first half season, where he was coming off of a CWS championship and was placed at a higher level than any other draft pick. It didn't for Burger or Sheets either, who had plus power in their game. I'm more confident in Madrigal's plus plus skill unlocking the most of what else he has. If Madrigal succeeds, he is going to do it differently than what we are used to.
  20. I think it's fair to assume that none of our players in single-A will improve at all.
  21. I agree, we need to start raising expectations soon.
  22. Yes exactly all things are one terrible example.
  23. Id do Bruce Bochy after 2019 but otherwise would prefer just a clubhouse guy that follows FO directions
  24. Little bit scared that he starts season without lauri, rather he be forced from gate to play with him. If he gets success early (offensively), will he feed Lauri when he comes back?
  25. I think if injuries go through our guards, it will be so bad it will be hard to win. Very thin there. They have a lot of players, but few decent ones.
