  1. KW is criticized for when he speaks out of line and undercuts his GM or manager, as well as for when he supports them and underscores the direction the team is going in, got it.
  2. That was a good article of KW saying all the right things.
  3. That's interesting. Do we know yet if sox have him as a 3b or an OF?
  4. Wow, crazy that Bush signed. Though tbh if I had to pick between Martin and Bush I"d have picked Martin. Exciting though, with him being a Michigan prospect, there may be a bit of underscouting to him. Love when plus bat speed is in the equation, if he can work through what has been called an unorthodox swing from BA, there may be tremendous value here. edit: redundancy

I'm curious how people define what is good value for a player like Yolmer vs. scraps. It's easy for me when we have a top player going to the market, I want top 50 prospects. And for a good player/good contract, I want a top 100. But for players like Yolmer, as a fan, I have no idea what he would get back. My hunch is that, unlike relievers at the deadline, teams would often view a decent hitting versatile infielder as a nice to have, but not a need to have. For that I don't see the return being that good, or little leverage. For me, I can only judge a return based on player type. It wasn't my favorite strategy last year, but I at least understood the using of assets to give ML-ready, slightly below average but blocked prospects such as gillaspie and cordell time in ML to see if there's something there. With 3.5 years control left and still young, Sanchez is already basically that. Instead I'd prefer younger players with some elite tools. Though unlikely they ever make an impact as good as Yolmer Brewers example, I would have trouble saying we got scraps if we acquired position players such as Je'Von Ward and Carlos Rodriguez. I'd err on the same side for pitching, but I think I'd also make the case for going after like Medeiros and Zack Brown, players with success in AA but profiles that say they are more likely bullpen. Get them here where we have more leeway to grow them as starters. Anyway point is these are backend top 30 guys from Brewers. Is that scraps? I don't know. I'd feel fine not trading sanchez for some of them, but I'd also understood if they were.
  6. I sometimes listen to mully and hanley on drive to gym in morning or while i'm making breakfast. I realize it's hard for these guys who are up at 3am to keep up with stuff that happened sometimes late the night before. But even so, just find it to be so boring. So many stories about "oh man, remember when we were in new orleans and we went to a bar and oh the drinks were Tall and what we drank like I was drinking all night and we would just go the next bar and the drinks were bigger! oh that was fun"
  7. they were looking for someone less boring and landed on ... David Haugh?
  8. I'm not upset about the Bulls for Nwaba, at least with this scuttlebutt news. It should be clear by now that in this offseason the teams have all the leverage. Bulls should be pressing on that for Nwaba and everyone. There is not likely a big market out there for him and if a team is showing interest enough but without cap space, a sign and trade is fine. In this offseason, hard to see nwaba as more than a 3-4 mill guy. Try to get him for 2/$6 and get him in a more favorable signing year of 2020. There was a path for bulls to go all in and just gotten a eastern semi finals team going after Restricted FAs like Capela or Parker, signing Isaiah Thomas for cheap. That team would have been...what, the Pistons? If they aren't doing that then best case is just keeping 2019 as clean as possible even if you think it's destined to fail, and sucking up some bad contracts for assets.
  9. Trying to control the decisions of a 16 year old kid isn’t easy.
  10. Not sure what to think. Have liked the trading of space for prospects, but would rather have had this year be used like the padres who still signed like 9 guys while under the penalty.
  11. Dang that sucks.

Counterpoint, basically every player has played well in W-S this year under him and they all seem to love playing for him.

Yeah I mean this board loved his turnaround last year but for the media scouts they were apprehensive until his July/August walk improvements proved themselves. They did and then some. I’m very excited for our OF prospects. Even Rutherford.
  14. The main difference is the other teams that were in on Robert were already over the penalty so they knew they were limited in negotiations. The white Sox weren’t, so if they missed out they’d either be able to pay up for a bunch of players, or, when they had signed him they only could sign those with $300k. Being in between clearly affected their strategy.

Lenyn Sosa is a multi hit machine, but also according to milb he has a lower obp than avg right now.

  17. That's...surprising.
  18. I didn't say I think they are doing it for no reason, I am surprised the premium the white sox have been paying to college second round picks. Look at the past two years: https://www.mlbdailydish.com/2017/6/15/15812484/2017-mlb-draft-signings-tracker https://www.mlbdailydish.com/2017/6/15/15812484/2017-mlb-draft-signings-tracker The amount the sox are paying their second round picks stands out considering they have picked college players.
  19. Just want to stress a few points: I don't think the pay to sheets/walker changed our draft I do think it underscores the tendency toward college talent from our front office I have a hard time believing just from comments on how the draft went from Hostetler/etc that we were specifically targeting these guys and tried to guide them back. I think it might just be an agreement of like 'hey if you get to us we'll give you slot + remaining pool. Something like that.
  20. It just is improbable he would make more if he went back. I mean obviously it may be a deterrant but we aren't signing these guys at slot were signing them pretty far over.
  21. In addition, during the draft is still 2017-18 cap constraints, now it's the new year. They would have really struggled to fit Parsons on last years budget, now they could swallow some big contracts for assets.
  22. Right, he's not going back for his senior year.
  23. I just don't get it, what leverage does he have? It probably doesn't matter, but the Sheets/Walker overslot by a lot signings have been so strange to me.
  24. I don't really find it unreasonable to lower players rankings due to injury. It increases uncertainty that they will both come back from injury the same and if it will be chronic, compared to an uninjured player.
  25. I love that they are running like crazy in W-S. Try it out there.
