  1. That’s crazy I didn’t know that about Sanchez.
  2. I blame ump for this. If he doesn’t escalate it nobody would have known.
  3. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 07:20 PM) Bennetti has a very interesting habit of saying that a pitch for ball 4 is close when it is not. That was very close.
  4. Yolmer starting year on fire.
  5. This is a really exciting outing by Carson. I don’t remember last game I saw of his where his breaking stuff played for strikes. Like Giolito, even when he was getting by last year it was mostly off of fastball/changeup.
  6. Is Carson’s 89mph pitch his cutter?
  7. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 07:04 PM) fulmer is looking good, maybe he has improved. the kopech interview bombed eh? He was just cutting in and out.
  8. Cut your losses on this interview sheesh
  9. Fulmer looks really good so far. Also like the call by Castillo to just serve Donaldson all breaking stuff.
  10. Didn't it take hawk 4 years to get a home run call? Benetti has been doing 2 half seasons, give him time.
  11. I'm mainly surprised that Destino is not in Kanny. It's nice that Villa finally gets a shot out of GF but disappointed one of Reyes/Zangari still are where they are.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 10:14 AM) Not at all, just the opposite to be honest. Looking forward to seeing what holes they fill first and then see the fallout from the post draft free agency bonanza that always happens with June cuts I am excited about the draft, just not thrilled with this draft specifically.
  13. I would be surprised if we went College OFer, I wouldn't necessarily upset if they are clearly awesome.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 12:34 PM) There must be a rulebook on announcing. You aren't allowed to have much silence. Any broadcasters out there or experts on the field? Cmon, you have to talk, talk talk. How can anybody not love the story last night Stone told about his bonus for winning the Cy Young? That is GOOD announcing in a 14-5 game. You got to talk, folks, if u are a paid announcer. Hell yeah I agree with Greg.
  15. I don't mind benetti but I also don't mind most broadcasters. But I do think the specific criticisms people try to make for why they don't like him are kinda ridiculous. Just say he rubs you the wrong way. Doesn't excite you. I get it. But if you read a game thread, there is literally zero people that could satisfy every nitpicky thing people cry about Benetti. The Q&A thing. I mean give me a break. That is how people talk and converse. The only specific complaint that has resonated is the complaint that Farmer never says the score which is 100% accurate but also I am one of four people that still likes Farmer & DJ. Though I will say Farmer sounds 100 years older this year. I don't think he's back again for another year.
  16. Did they get bad press? If this site didn't exist I'm not sure I would have known how pissed others were. Driving the stupid trucks onto the field and doing opening ceremonies and then delaying the game when it could be played for 2 hours and then canceling when freezing rain downpoured on everyone was without a doubt the worst white sox experience I've ever had.
  17. Kiley specifically may now have better info sources to pull on fresh out of a front office, but after last 2 years I don't really trust that people have good gauges on sox draft preferences. I mean, what we'd think at this point would be: - Emphasis on advanced approach at plate with power - Tend to pick from schools with trackman/statcast data - Confident they can get average defensive players to stick in more valuable positions - Value college relievers - Power arms? Can't tell if this is real or just a factor of going after relievers But what theoretically we should also expect this year: - A shift toward younger players as we have been very college heavy and Hostetler has mentioned as such - A move away from college outfielders where we have a huge bottleneck but would these tendencies show up in the first pick? Who knows. (College relievers, for instance, would not)
  18. I'm definitely out on tanking next year btw. This crap is all out of sorts. THere is no way the marginal value of moving from effectively 10 to 6 is worth literally sabotaging the game of basketball. Would rather move to phase two of trying to accumulate good assets and wait for trade opportunities.
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:48 AM) It seems like arms are going to be the top of this class, we should not be foolish and reach for a lesser player out of need. With a top 5 pick we should take the best talent. I think people throw around BPA in the mlb draft as if there is way more certainty around it then there is.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:42 AM) So, how many of you are willing to give Lavine the max? Not I. I wish we could use him to trade up honestly. Not a fan of his game at all. I think he could have a long career floating around as a Jamal Crawford type, but it's going to take him years to realize he's not gonna be the guy.
  21. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:37 AM) Ever attend a midsummer day game when it is 100 degrees and your seat has no shade? That is just as miserable as the cold. Naw no way. Those games are rough, but you can go places in the stadium for relief that are fun. In April you go to the bathroom.
  22. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 09:35 AM) Is the strike out rate calculated as a percentage of plate appearances, rather than "at bats"? If so, you are correct. In any case, that's impressive, relative to his home run rate. Strike out rate is by PAs, not ABs. He had just as much of a chance to k when he walked as when he hit or ground out, so PA is more accurate.
  23. I'd be really thrilled with Mize, just don't think he's there. McClanahan is nice, just don't really want a TJ guy. There are also just a lot of high school pitchers that are quality, and not so many position players. So it's a question of getting the top of a pretty stocked class, or getting the top of a weak class.
  24. Are any other Bears fans sorta unexcited about this draft? Like there's one scenario where it goes great (Chubb), then probably good (Fitzpatrick), then okay, I guess (Nelson), then well if we have to (Smith, Edmunds). Add to that the Bears are once again not the "fulcrum" pick. Though there are teams that are keen to trade up, the bears are not the team ahead of teams that people worry about. Boring.
