  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) See, I don't want Nomar as our everyday thirdbaseman. He's a HUGE downgrade defensively from Crede, and that alone is worth a lot of runs. The reason I like Nomar is because (IMO) he'd be able to play one positions pretty well (1B, with a whole Spring Training there under his belt), DH (duh), and two other positions not extremely well, but he wouldn't kill us out there (3B, and to a lesser extent, SS). He's versatile in not just where he can play in the IF, but also where he can be put in the lineup. You could probably pencil him in anywhere from the #2 spot to the #6 spot. I completely agree with you here. I understand why you have Nomar hitting in the 2 hole but if he is the backup plan and that plan comes into play, I'd like to see him hit 3rd and keep gooch in the 2 hole. Like you said though, that's why Nomar would be a solid pickup because you could slot him just about anywhere.
  2. QUOTE(timotime @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 12:03 AM) one, generally (not just you rangercal), why is there such a hatred of crede's agent? what will boras do that other agents wouldnt? two, i have to strongly disagree with you on the crede AND marte for pierre. for lack of a better analogy, we would be greasing up and bending over on that one. The White Sox won't deal with Scott Boras, that's all you need to know.
  3. QUOTE(Mansoo @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) what about this trade?? Hank Blalock,Adrian Gonzalez Joe Crede,Freddy Garcia Adrian Gonzalez has decent skill in 1B Hank Blalock>Joe Crede .............. :puke
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) Wagner is 34 years old and he will be 38 by the time his contract is up. You're good.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) I'm not totally sure how to read the numbers...but somehow I think you and I have to be looking at different numbers. In 2005, when I sort by "runs scored", McAfee is ranked 28th...and RFK is ranked 23rd. Coors field is naturally ranked first. By just that metric, the way I'm looking at the data...McAfee gave up fewer runs on average than RFK. I guess I have to be wrong somewher,e but I don't see where that comes out of the numbers I'm seeing at all. The link you just gave us has completely different numbers then you're seeing.
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) ??? Do you know how to read these park factors? Oakland had 1.2% more runs scored than the average park, and had almost 9% more HRs than the average park. RFK had 14% fewer runs scored, and 22% fewer HRs than the average park. Thought I was going crazy for a second.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) Well, at least last year...Washington was probably a better hitting park than Oakland, at least if you take the park factor points without analysis What am I missing here? Looks like the Colleseum was easier to hit in by far.
  8. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 05:37 PM) Loaiza was pretty good last year. I don't think he'll have a 5 era at all RFK is an extreme pitchers park and his numbers on the road were pretty brutal. That plus going back to the AL, I fully expect his era to be right around 5.
  9. QUOTE(danman31 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) There was an article on Jon Scheyer in ESPN the Magazine. I read the article and thought it was kinda s***ty. They called it a Hickoryesque state title, I was a little offended. The article focused on how he 'betrayed' Illinois by going to Duke. Believe me I hate Duke, but it's hard to turn them down, especially when you grow up a Duke fan as a kid like Scheyer. Meanwhile, the Spartans are 4-0 after sweeping the Lake-Cook Thanksgiving Tournament. Scheyer has scored over 30 in all 4 games and is averaging around 35 I think. For the record, Scheyer got rocked at the health club near me. True story.
  10. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) I disagree with it being a horrible deal, looks abotu right to me. I do however agree with you that something will likely follow and that could be Zito being traded at the GM meetings. 7 mill for a guy who is likely to post an era between 4.7-5? I'd call that a horrible deal.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) I think the Ordonez backlash was almost all from his lying to the team and calling the organization and its leaders liars, and cheats essentially. Bingo. People have to understand the business part of baseball and that's just part of the game. I started to hate maggs because he became a complete asshole.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) That article is ridiculous. I can't ever see Konerko getting booed in Chicago. Even if he took a little bit more money some place else I couldn't see him ever getting booed. He helped bring us a MLB World Championship. How can you possibly boo that? He would never get booed here unless he decided to bad mouth the organization upon on his departure *cough cough*

    Carl Everett

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) what team were you watching. He didn't make an error when he was with the Sox and he made a couple game saving catches if i remember. Carl made one catch over the wall against the A's that saved us a game. Besides that one catch he was probably the worst defensive cf in baseball. Carl was our only hitter who hit worth a damn in the stretch run of 03 but Andruw Jones he was not.
  14. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) If Thome is considered a calculated risk, Garciaparra has to be considered one as well. You'd be looking at healh-risk, former sluggers in both the three and four spots? Hmmmmmm... Let's just make sure Plan B is leagues away from Plan A. Paulie needs to be the priority, no question. Agreed. Kenny isn't afraid to take risks though so don't count that scenario out. I honestly don't think Thome is that big of a risk, Nomar on the other hand would obviously be a huge risk.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) Ha, you know that was just some shot in the dark. The Nomar stuff is actually information that is out there. The Pena stuff was not. I had a chance to take a shot at you, had to be done. The Nomar thing actually makes perfect sense to me if Paul fell through.
  16. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) he A's are close to signing free agent Esteban Loaiza to a three-year contract for slightly more than $21 million, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports. Perhaps increasing the chances of a Barry Zito deal. Loaiza would join a rotation that includes Zito, Rich Harden, Danny Haren and Joe Blanton, leaving no room for Kirk Saarloos or Joe Kennedy. One of the two lefties almost certainly would go. Loaiza's mediocre numbers outside of RFK Stadium last season give us pause, but compared to what some of the other free-agent starters could get, $7 million per year might not be so bad. At least he's a good bet to stay healthy. Nov. 28 - 1:19 pm et Wow.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:39 PM) Dye won't be batting 3rd. My prediction is that Nomar will be batting 3rd for the Sox next season. Does that leave room for Carlos Pena?
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) Counting OPM makes a big difference to me when it is a direct relation to who my favorite team will but on the field, to think otherwise would be putting blinders on. Its kinda like saying that it doesn't matter that I have a huge house or not, when you aren't able to afford the property taxes on it, and are going to lose it anyways. If you don't have one eye on the budget, you aren't getting the full picture of what a teams realistic expectations are on almost any personel matter. Bingo. Using the Thome situation as an example: Tex, you're saying you didn't care about the money picked up in the deal at all. So that means in a way you really don't care about the Konerko situation, the money picked up by the Phillies can and could have had a direct effect on the PK situation. We worry about the financials in deals because we only do care about this team winning, and the better deals you can make from a money stand point will allow you to add more players with extra funds.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 12:56 PM) Let me give you a real answer, we got Thome. It was days until I noticed what he was going to cost the Sox. I wasn't interested in the least. I was interested in where he would hit, where he would field, and the fact he is a solid citizen in the club house. I don't care if he's making $5 mil or $10 mil. If the Astros made more money this season than the Red Sox would it or should it make a difference to any of the fans? When they start publishing the box scores in the financial section, I'll start caring. Until then, I'm not that interested, but now I can see why some fans are so fascinated by it all. Thank you for the education. Counting other people's money just doesn't do anything for me. You're not understanding the point at all.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) This dude is an ass. I guess he figures you can't be upset to see Rowand go, but still like the trade? Wow, wow, wow. :headshake
  21. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:20 PM) do the Sox face the Phils anytime during the interleague? Nope.
  22. Also if you're not in the Chicago market, whitesox.com is streaming the csn coverage.
  23. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) I just watched the media of Anderson's two homeruns off King Felix this morning and it made me feel awfully good. Check it out. Click on Anderson's page on Whitesox.com and give it a watch. I see no reason why he couldn't hit 12-15+ homeruns in a full season's production. He'll hit 15 plus homers imo, I am worried a little bit about how well he'll hit average wise though. I think he'll be in the .250 range.
  24. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) Bears Super Bowl? Get over yourselves. We'll see how the Bears match up two weeks from now against someone not in the NFC (not named Seattle or New York, of course). I still say fluke. Badmouth me all you want, but their luck will run out. The Bears have done much better than I thought, I'll admit that, but I still think a lot of it is a function of playing the NFC. Ahh, Kyle Orton, 17th in passer rating in a league with 16 teams. Well what the hell do you want them to do? Demand a conference change?
