  1. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) Tough call from the angle the ump had, and I'm not sure if anyone other than maybe the 1B ump could have seen the missed tag. Cards need more than one run here, to feel like they're back in it. Look on the brightside critic, atleast pujols doesnt have to leadoff an inning again.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) I refuse to put my marker on my house. Too many people around here who might want me out of the picture. True.
  3. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) Its funny to think of how much a good portion of people(including myself)in the beginning of the year got a sick knot in their stomach everytime Contreras' turn came up and now to see how valuable he is. I just thought I would put together a little opinion questionaire about our favorite Cuban defector to see what you guys think. A: How did you feel about Contreras before the All-Star Break? B: Do you think the Sox will view Contreras as a valuable part of the team after the season is over? C: Do you think Contreras will be trade bait after the season is over? D: Do you want Contreras to be trade bait after the season? E: Do you feel that Contreras could sustain this type of success, or do you think Cooper has caught the proverbial "Lightning in a bottle"? F: Did you think that Contreras was worth his contract when he was acquired? G: Do you think that Contreras is worth his contract now? Just curious. I have heard various things around the site for the past few months about contreras, and I wondered where everyone stood right now. I thought it could make for a good conversation. A. He was hard as hell to watch but I wanted him in the rotation cause he was still outstanding at times, even though he was inconsistant he was our best option at the time. The game he had against detroit where he get leveled but didn't walk anybody was actually the point in which I started believing in him. B. Hell yeah. They've had him start game 1 of the alds, the alcs and now it looks like the world series, that tells you all you need to know. C. Not a chance in hell. Kenny is all about pitching and he won't trade this group we got together, it's to damn good to mess with. D. HELL NO. Same thing I said for C is basically the way I feel, Jose has become an ace and you don't trade a guy like this, period. E. Jose has righted the ship, he has learned that he has a great fastball and that when he throws it for strikes he sets up one of the nastiest pitches in baseball in his fork ball. F. No, but I liked the risk just because of the insane stuff that Jose does have. G. An ace for essentially 6 mill(what we're paying) is just an insane steal, considering the likes of Eric Milton, Jon Lieber, Jaret Wright, and Matt Clement all got around 25 mill for 3 years.
  4. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) Top of the 4th 3-0 'stros. Oswalt looks unhittable right now.
  5. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) Did any sox fans here get pissed when our fellow sox player Carlos Lee did it? Just wondering. Hated it.
  6. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) I hope Kenny tells you all to shut the hell up and sit down. Psshh, he didn't to you two years ago.
  7. All I know is that I'm looking forward to seeing Iverson wear a suit.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) If he has less experiance than Chris Young what does age have anything to do with it? Experiance > Age and Owens doesnt have much of it so like I said putting up those numbers is more amazing than people give him credit for. I agree with this, I haven't seen Jerry play so I won't make any final conclusions on him but his numbers are damn impressive and all I heard coming into this season is the guy is a great athlete but is raw as hell...well if this is what he's like when raw lets see how he does with some experience under his belt. Keith, I think the difference between his average and obp is just fine but that's just me. I'm really interested to watch this guy play a few times, he really intrigues me cause like rock said these type of players are hard to find.
  9. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) Orlando Cabrera, your plane will be boarding soon... (If they can find someone to take that albatross contract) I know he can live with anthrax if needed.
  10. IMO the winner tonight is who we play, obviously if the stros win they're in but if they lose I think the cards take game 7.
  11. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 19, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) Rumors are flying around that Burnett has set his asking price at 13 mil per year. My bet is that he is an Oriole. Angelos is becoming more than desperate, and he has no idea about how to go about finding the right free agent for his club. he thinks he just needs to spend more money. Whoever pays Burnett over 8 million a year is going to regret it big time. 13 is ridiculous.
  12. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but what about Kenny?
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) Why not have Mike he can wear his Barons jersey and throw the first pitch. I dont care if he cheered for the cubs in 2003 this is Michael Jordan. He's a bandwagon fan, I love Mike and I always will I just don't think he should throw out the first pitch, jmo.
  14. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) Isn't technically Tony La Russa the first Latin manager to go? He was born stateside so maybe that's the distinction Lou Piniella is I believe.
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 10:48 PM) Just about every team's hometown fans dislike the manager or tend to be extremely over critical of him. It stems from watching every damn game of the season and having the oportunity to 2nd or 1st guess every move a manager makes during a game. Did you know a lot of Braves fans are upset with Bobby Cox for only winning 1 world series over the 14 seasons they've been in the playoffs? It's true. The managers that we see as being great and would love to have them managing our team are heavily scrutinized and in a lot of cases disliked by that team's fans. Excellent f***in point, kalapse....and after reading other teams message boards, I completely agree.
  16. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) If you are looking by terms of wins and losses, then yea, it can probably only get worse. But even I dont think anyone is going into next year expecting this team to repeat (I would love it if they did, but I just don't see it happening). lol, we don't even know what the team is going to look like yet and we sure as hell haven't won the series yet so slow down there buddy.
  17. QUOTE(Tmar28 @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) man i swear a firework went off like right in my window that night. scared the absolute s*** out of me. i could smell the gunpowder or whatever. It didn't hit you?? Damn, I missed.
  18. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) I'd love to see MJ! I'd rather have someone associated with the team in some way not just another bandwagoner even if it is Mike. JMO.
  19. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) My sense is that Hawk throws out the ball at one of these games. The WHite Sox have to do this. Daley should get one. So should MJ. Nobody else besides Frank over Hawk. IF they don't do this, it will be very sox-like of them to blow this opportunity. THe crowd will go nuts if he is there. MJ? No thanks.
  20. 6 and 7 are my two favorites on the list.
