  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 10:27 PM) Doing something half-assed just because this isn't working is a franchise killing move. You have two gigantic assets and if you aren't squeezing every possible return out of them, you are negligent as a front office. Fans can think like you are. GM's can't. It's not half assed if you believe it's the best value you're going to get even if it's not 100 percent everything you hoped for. And you can't kill something that's already dead and this franchise has been dead for a long while now.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 10:11 PM) I have yet to hear anything to indicate we have been offered anywhere near that kind of a deal. In fact all I keep reading is how teams DON'T want to offer their top guys. What deal am I missing here? What I don't want to do is trade Chris Sale for a lesser package and end up with an assortment of Avi Garcia's so that we can win 70 games a year instead. As opposed to our 79 wins a year that we know we're going to get now a days? Obviously nobody knows what's being offered at the moment but I bet right now is the best offers we're going to get outside of maybe this offseason. Problem is, as I keep saying, if we get to the offseason with these guys still on the roster then we're going for it on 2017, no doubt in my mind. We know what type of team we can build around Sale and Q, we have no idea whatsoever with the trade scenario. There's a (good)chance this fails no matter what but I'm willing to take that chance over the guarantee of mediocrity.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) Sure you can. You can just wait a couple years until their price gets to a point in which a team is actually willing to pay. You don't just give up years of control of underpaid aces just to move on. You get full value, or you wait. We've been waiting for 5 years now. Their value is going to start to diminish at some point if we don't move on this. Like I said before, it makes perfect sense in theory to wait until the offseason to move them but I guarantee that's not how we're going to operate if we still have both in the winter. 5 years since these two have been starting together and absolutely nothing to show for it. We can pretend we hold all the cards here and we don't need to move them(cause once again in theory we don't) but we're just going to repeat this same song and dance next July when they both have a little less value, if we don't move them now.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) Why Abreu? Absolute worst time to trade him.
  5. Ya, I'm absolutely going to be pissed off if they don't trade off Q or Sale and some of the other valuable assets. It's right in theory to say that we have them for a while so we don't have to trade them right now but this organization DOES have to trade them right now. There's too much history of them standing pat and then trying to reload in the offseason just to fail again and I bet that's what happens if they're both here going into the offseason. Add that to the fact that this is the perfect market to trade one(or both if I had my way) of them and their value will start to diminish with the less time we have control of them and the time for a trade is now.
  6. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) I'm well past giving this front office the benefit of the doubt, BUT in terms of Sale, there is no NEED to move him at this deadline. But if you have a plan (please God for once have a plan), then you best be confident you can get the package you are looking for this winter with more teams in the hunt for an ace. If we go into the offseason with both Sale and Q you know we're going for it again in 2017.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 12:40 PM) This team is jack with Sale though. What would you suggest they do? Hold pat? I don't see how gradual improvements over the next three years will be enough when Chris will be exiting via free agency in 2020. Starting over is really our only option. This.
  8. To answer the thread title...yes.
  9. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) What is the best beer these days? Keystone Light.
  10. Doesn't hurt to ask. I don't think they're getting that kind of return for Shields but hey who the f*** knows.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) To be fair, it's a hysterical scenario. "WHAT IF WE TRADED WRIGLEY FOR SALE AND COMISKEY?" They can have Wrigley but can we get Wrigleyville instead? People are about to yell at me.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 04:22 PM) If someone offered 1 billion dollars for Chris Sale do you think the white sox accept? Edit: nobody respond to this. Yes. I just wanted to respond.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) Kaplan brought up something on the radio this afternoon I laughed at, but I'm still thinking about it 2 hours later, which I'm not sure what that means.. Tom Ricketts calls up Reinsdorf and says "Listen, a World Series is vital to us this year, and we think Sale is the final piece. We just signed Theo to an 8 year deal, but we'll trade you the contract of Theo and his staff for Chris Sale." I honestly didn't know what to think. Jesus, Tony, stop listening to Kaplan. Cause my head hurts now.
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) Heyman: NYY would decline Giolito for Miller I mean...
  15. START THE RUMORS Or don't.
  16. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) Even if Boston was willing to do Betts straight up for Sale (and I don't think they would), it still doesn't make sense for this team. All you're doing is filling one hole and creating another, and it's not like there's a bunch of SP prospects banging on the door in our farm. It's completely pointless. If Sale is traded you need to fill multiple holes, not just one. Exactly. You can argue that Betts is just as(if not more) valuable as Sale but if you're trading Chris it has to be for a package of players. A one for one deal makes no sense for our Sox at this point.
  17. What do you think scouts that are sent to watch Sale report back at this point? "Uh, ya he's still good."
  18. Ya, I fell in love with Jenna on her real world season. She's a competition beast too which is hilarious.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 06:49 AM) Why did your boy have to win? I see what you did there.
  20. Why was that HoH comp so damn long?
  21. Fulmer's had 2 bad games, I don't think it's fair to jump on the omgz he isn't ready bandwagon.
  22. I like some weird and colorful stuff but not a fan of that hat at all.
  23. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) Some folks just can't be positive at all There's nothing wrong with actually analyzing the situation as well.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 09:22 AM) Or he had a bad stretch followed by a good stretch. Nailed it. He obviously wasn't the worst pitcher of all time when we first got him and he's not as good as he's pitching right now.
  25. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) Lol we'll never learn will we? People were saying the exact same thing last year! "We have Rodon, Q and Sale, plus Eaton and Abreu as our core. Just need some tweaking.. If it doesn't work then blow it up next season." I read this basic phrase all last year around the deadline. I just don't understand how minor tweaking fixes this mess. Or, with a baron minor league system and weak FA class, how'd we would accomplish it. But I'm sure when we fail again next year we'll just fall for the same false hope come 2018 This. I was one of those people last year and nope, not falling into that trap ever again with this organization.
