QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) He DOES lead the league in sacrafice flies.....I just wish he wasnt such a streaky hitter. We knew that coming into this season though. I love Juan and I'm happy we have him, it's hard to find a young shortstop like him with that kind of glove and he's definitely a streaky hitter but by the end of the year, he'll hit 20-25 homers batting around .270-.280.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) Just close your eyes and you pick the guy you like the most instead of using stats. Why do you think they record Batting averages and other stats. Hey maybe we should make Shingo our closer again. I mean throw out the ERA or his ability to give up the long ball, that frisbee is pretty cool and I like him. I actually like Randa more then Crede so I don't understand your point. Stats aren't everything, not even close.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Baseball is a stats based game. If am sure that if we ignore Range Factor and Fielding percentage Jose Valentin is a better defender also than Joe Randa. LOL. And if you look purely at those stats Jose Valentin has been a better defender then Orlando Cabrera also.
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) So Crede is the better defender even though the stats show Randa is better? Talk about a Crede apologist. :headshake You know what Jabroni if you haven't learned by now I probably look at stats less then anyone around here to make my decisions on players. I've seen Randa play, I've seen Crede play, Crede's a better defender, period.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 31, 2005 -> 01:57 PM) Randa's defense has been better this season and over his career than Crede's. Look at their respective fielding stats. By the way, check the stats again. Randa is not a .270'ish hitter... Joe Crede .252 career AVG .302 career OBP Joe Randa .286 career AVG .342 career OBP Once again, I changed that post.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 31, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) You know, I think the "defense" drum for Crede's rag-ass has been beaten to death. To me, he's an OK defensive player but has far less ability than some of his supporters would suggest. One thing I should add though is I consider 3B to be an offensive position (with the other infield and outfield corner spots). Therefore, I would like to see more than just some decent defense. Crede's a very good defender, he makes some plays look easy out there that are actually very difficult plays. I respect your opinion about the offensive positions but I guess I just don't like that theory, for me it doesn't matter which positions you're getting your production from as long as you're getting it.

Good idea Snb. I've been to the Cell, Miller Park, Yankee Stadium, Fenway, and Wrigley. Personally, I guess I'm just not a fan of the old time stadiums because I didn't like the Stadium, Fenway, or Wrigley. Just to boring for me I guess plus the fact Fenway and Wrigley were as cramped as you could be and the UD at yankee stadium was as steep as can be. I love the cell, don't really have much more to say then that, I just love that place. I also think Miller is a grea park, beautiful stadium, great views all around, and I always wanted to go down Bernie's slide.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) MLB experience is what I am talking about. Joe has been up in the show for the last few years. There is a difference betewen Randa making the jump from the minors running instead of Crede who cant hit at all. There is a difference between Randa having a bad year, and Crede having a bad career. People were saying they exact same thing on Jon. "He might be 25 but he has a ton of major league experience."

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 31, 2005 -> 01:49 PM) Randa over the last few years. 2005 .291 BA 2004 .287 BA 2003 .291 BA 2002 .281 BA Yeah I see how that and Crede are almost the same. And again can you review the defensive stats before you blindly just say his defense is better than Randa's. Ya, I changed my post about his average and I don't give a crap what his defensive stats say, I've watched Randa play for years and Crede's a better defender, period.
-
Randa's a .280ish hitter while Joe is a .240-.250ish hitter. That's not a HUGE jump especially when team chemistry and defense are taken into account. I'm a big Joe Randa fan but Kenny is going to look for a big upgrade not just Joe Randa.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 31, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) Where did I say he wouldn't make a trade? The Garcia trade was late June, was it not? This is late May. He traded for a #2 solid pitcher and locked him up for 3 years shortly thereafter. Gigantic difference from a Joe Randa. Exactly and yes you're right it was late June, right after the last game of the first flub series.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 31, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) I don't like "Sox pride." I love that too. I've loved everything the marketing team has done up until the new Aaron commercial, I love the slogan and I absolutely loved the commercials up until this new one.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 31, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) How long do you think Kenny is going to want to keep Cruddy around with how sucky he is? It's not like Crede is showing any signs of improvement. In fact, he is getting worse. Josh Fields is waiting in the wings (not that he's ready yet) and Crede will just get more and more expensive to keep. He just isn't worth it. The problem is that you guys think Crede has a bright future. The realists see how bad he truly is. Just because you dislike every player here that has struggled doesn't mean your a realist. Now don't get me wrong I'm real down on Crede right now also, however I just don't think kenny is going to go after Randa unless he also has a big name reliever on his mind. If kenny gets a third baseman it's going to be someone better then Joe Randa I'm almost positive unless once again he also has Billy Wagner on his mind. Randa is better then Joe offensively no doubt but the team is still winning and by all accounts all of these guys will run through a wall for each other on this team and it might not be worth it to replace an everday player who is better offensively but it's not a huge jump.
-
If we're going to add a bat 3rd base seems like the the logical position. I'm a big fan of Joe Randa, however if Kenny is going to trade for a 3rd baseman knowing him he's going to go for a Huff or a Chavez, he'll go for the upper tier talent.

I love the slogan.

Seems a little early to me. From everything I heard he's very talented but he's still very raw but I guess since Seattle has had so much injury trouble at short that they're rushing him.

QUOTE(JimH @ May 31, 2005 -> 06:55 AM) I thought I'd heard the Sox say a few days ago that Gload would need several more days, so who knows. I had to do a survey on gym class once, one of the questions was "what was the most difficult part of the class" or something like that. My response was it was very difficult to concentrate with all those girls running around in gym shorts. To me it seems like Ross is ready to go, I think they're is a good possibility that they have no clue who they want to send down so they're holding off on it a bit.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 30, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) I'd love an all ALCentral ALCS. That'd be great... Entirely possible, no doubt in my mind.

QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ May 30, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) your right. i agree. just my thinking outside the box about carl is all. Fair enough
-
QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ May 30, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) your very right. but if carl would have got the game winning hit then there would be no b****ing about taking out the best hitter. its a no win situation. I would have brought it up and I'm not just bulls***ting you either. It just made absolutely no sense, ozzie is just in love with the matchup game and it bites him in the ass a lot. Honestly, I love ozzie's style and I love his aggressiveness with this team but that move was terrible and it almost cost us the game. Hopefully he'll never ever do that again.
-
QUOTE(whitesoxjr27 @ May 30, 2005 -> 06:37 PM) all i'm saying is on this board one day ozzie is great one day and bad the next. he has made mistakes but what manager has not. just my two cents. may sound dumb to you but oh well. I agree with you for the most part but taking out your best hitter to put in a stuggling carl everett just because he's left handed was a horrendous decision. I almost threw a baseball through my aunts tv when I saw he did that, I don't think she would have liked that
-
QUOTE(JimH @ May 30, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) I will say this though, they need to figure out a way to jumpstart this offense, and fast. Harrelson and Jackson commented on this during the game, they squandered big opportunities three times. Personally I think the worst at bat of all was Widger's, striking out on three pitches after going up 3-0. I give credit to Washburn and the Angel pitching coach (who is excellent by the way, Bud Black), but Widger for some unknown reason failed to shorten up his swing. Tough to blame a guy who plays so sporadically but that was a bad at bat. They squandered a ton of opportunities today but I got a feeling they're going to get it going soon atleast a lot of our guys swung the bat well today, Juan took some good swings today, aaron looked great, dye was staying with the ball, scotty was good, Crede still looks lost and Pauly was horrendous. Frank's swing looked fantastic today I hope he's healthy to get right back in there in a few days cause he looked damn good at the plate today imo.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 30, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Also, what the... If Iguchi turns a routine DP, no one has a problem... Yeah no doubt but I'm not going to get mad at him for one game he's been a rock all year even if we lose this game I'm not b****ing at him. I still can't believe he was pinch hit for in the 9th, worst decision ozzie's made in his career and he's made some bad ones before, absolutely terrible decision there. That being said Timo saves the day, awesome.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 30, 2005 -> 06:08 PM) I just got back from the game. Was I the only one wondering why Iguchi was pinch-hit for in the ninth? I mean, 2nd and 3rd, don't you want a good contact hitter up there? Then maybe Everett pinch hit for Timo if Gooch can't get the job done? Nice job, Timo. You get a one-week repreive. Hopefully, that will be the last time I see you in a Sox uni until the September call-ups. Taking Iguchi was by far imo the worst move ozzie has ever made. Gooch has been our best hitter all year and he takes him out for a struggling everett, absolutely idiotic, ozzie just falls in love with the righty-lefty bulls***, unreal at times.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 30, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) The Score is reporting that Shingo may be sent down to Charlotte next week to make room for El Duque and Ross Gload.
