QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Dawgs win against St. Louis 65-56! SIU! Western Kentucky here we come!! Good to see some offense on the boards. Interesting game, the refs literally tried to keep SLU in it, it was brutal officiating(seems to be the theme of today). Matt Shaw again was very good, Falker was fantastic and Mr. Mullins has finally realized when he gets into the lane he can go up and doesn't need to kick it out every darn time. Also the bench played a ton of quality minutes today, Falker and TY got into foul trouble and didn't play much in the first half and thankfully the bench was able to play some good minutes. Young is still MIA, once he gets going again(and he will) we might have actually have a...here goes....solid offense. -

Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 12:46 PM) FWIW, Gammons said this morning that Manny Ramirez to the White Sox is still a possibilty. He claims OG has convinced KW that Manny would not be a distraction. He also said McCarthy is who Boston wants. Everyone wants McCarthy except Ozzie. I'd like Manny on this team but for Brandon they can stick it. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) Are you an SIU fan or just a MVC fan? Funny, any ooc wins by the Valley end up helping out the Dawgs a lot in the long run, hence why I root for all those teams before the conference sched starts. When you don't get a chance to play elite programs all the time cause no one will schedule you, any ooc wins that your conference can get will be big for your own program come March. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) But you could fill that roll with a journeyman or young guy making close to if not minimum. I think a lot of people think Riske is the David Riske of 3 or 4 years ago. Cleveland insisted Boston take him in the Crisp trade. Guys that go to arbitration or get offered it generally get raises, and Riske would be in line for a significant raise, not based on what he is, but based on what he was, and some misleading numbers. KW doesn't want to pay him what the cost would be to keep him and I don't blame him. I think he has his sights set higher. At least I hope he does. Riske has probably been one of the more consistant middle relievers over the last 5 years as there has been in baseball. Like I said before, he's not great but at this point I'd much rather have him than Haeger in the pen(I know that's not going to be popular around here) and there isn't much out there that'd Id rather have than Riske. Would I like better? Sure I would, but what can we acquire at this point. We can afford the 3 mill or whatever it'd cost Riske for one year if he did indeed accept arbitration. You either get a pretty decent reliever back at 3 mill(ish) or you get compensation, to me you offer arbitration and it makes no sense to me why it wasn't done.

So another big day for the valley: We play a pretty darn good SLU team, the Shocks have another huge game at 'Cuse, UNI is playing Bucknell right now and Dan I wouldn't overlook Evansville, they're a solid team. Our game today basically is going to come down to who gets the other team to play to their style. SLU likes to run and obviously we're a halfcourt team. Hopefully our guys aren't too tired as this is our 5th game in like 2 days . GO DAWGS!!!! -
Does Notre Dame deserve a BCS bowl?

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 03:55 AM) In a conference that over the past few weeks has proved it's not as good as some people originally thought. ************************** Why exactly is that? Because a pretty good South Florida team beat WVU? If anything that just proves the conference is deeper than thought, to me. Rex basically just compared Louisville and ND's schedule and wins and concluded they're pretty close to equal, if that's the case why would you take the 2 loss team over the 1 loss team? -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) Riske can't be used when the game is on the line. Cleveland found that out, then Boston, then the White Sox. No team is going to give Riske enough money not to accept arbitration and give up a draft pick. Face it, Riske isn't very good and the White Sox don't want him. Offering him arbitration would almost guarantee they would be stuck with him at a price a lot higher than what a similar replacement, a minimum salary guy would cost. If the Sox wanted him, I'm sure they tried to negotiate a contract to avoid arbitration and the 2 sides obviously couldn't agree. Well if we indeed would have been stuck with him he would have never had to pitch with the game on the line. He's not a great reliever by any means but having a guy with a high 3's era in the back end of your bullpen isn't exactly the worst thing in the world. This honestly makes no sense to me, we either get picks or get "stuck" with a guy who isn't very bad at all.

QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) Jim saw this at the mall yesterday - consumed by the golf game. For those that know him, you think this would be a winner for me to get him..? It really is a fun system but something I wouldn't buy as I think it's going to be odd as hell for actual sports games.

This I definitely don't understand.

Does Notre Dame deserve a BCS bowl?

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) Enlighten me. Yes, Louisville's win over West Virginia is better than any of ND wins (they lost to Rutgers tomorrow and you can throw that argument out the window). But how is there a HUGE difference? Break it down, please. 1 loss vs. 2. -

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) Let's compare then...... Notre Dame has wins over Ga Tech on the road and Penn St. (played 7 bowl teams) Virginia Tech has wins over at Wake Forest and Clemson (played 7 bowl teams) Louisville has wins over West Virginia, Miami and Pitt (who lost to Michigan St) (played 7 bowl teams) I'd say Notre Dame's wins are as good as the other two. At worst you have a wash here, so how can you bark Notre Dame doesn't deserve it. They deserve it as much as Virginia Tech or Louisville, who are the only two other real options. And just for reference, Wisconsin, who isn't BCS eligible, played just 5 bowl teams. I have yet to see you or anyone else give me another team that deserves it more. I fail to see other teams that have separated themselves over the Irish. You're missing a HUGE difference between ND and Louisville. -

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) As soon as Zito and Schimdt sign, KW's cell phone will be ringing 24/7 Zito wont be signing for a while. But your point is well taken and something I've talked about with other soxtalkers. Kenny should have been and should still be patient with our starters. Let the market figure itself out and then other teams get desperate.

Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox
Rowand44 replied to Colorado Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) Honestly, I can't see a team being interested in trading for Pods at that price. To me, it looks like Pods is here for 2007. Juan Pierre is making 9 million dollars a year and 45 over the next 5. Is he a better player than Pods? Sure. Is he 6 million dollars better than Pods for a season? Hell no. 2.9 mill for Pods is not bad at all, I know a lot of people hate Pods but this is certainly a good value sign, though I know most will disagree. EDIT: And a 2.9 million dollar price tag for one season for a team that needs a leadoff hitter certainly isn't going to scare anyone away. -

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) I'm so sick of ND and their b****ing about rankings. Because, you know what, for that JV schedule they play, they sure as hell should be able to win at least 9 games, and hell, for being ranked in the preseason top 5, they should at least be able to beat one of the two good teams they played. And instead, they got their asses kicked by Michigan and USC, and should be embarassed for even playing a close game against MSU. Voters are a disgrace for their blind love of all things ND. And I swear to god, if I hear how great of a coach Fat Boy is again, I'm going to set the entire College Gameday setup on fire next week. Don't hold anything back man, tell us how you really feel.
