If you're taking the whole season into consideration then obviously Papelbon and Ryan have been better. That being said, right now, Bobby is as good as those two...no question.

This might have been posted already, but it seems that when we're about to sweep the Cubs, our bullpen always gives up the lead and we have to put the brooms away. Hopefully Buehrle and the Sox offense can change that this afternoon.
Or our defense. You're right, something weird always seems to happen when we're on the verge of sweeping these guys. I have faith in Mark, hopefully our hitters can put together some good ab's against one of the better pitchers in baseball. Hopefully the rain stays away as well.

I know you've been here for a long time, but what's up with the sig? Why the hate for a couple of guys who has some good years as sox?
Haha no hate. I actually had that made early in 04 before Damaso completely went down hill and Shingo was awesome. I just recently brought it back because I love how it looks.

Pitch 1 - In play, run-scoring play
Jason Bay reaches on a fielder's choice out. Jose Bautista out at home. Sean Casey to 2nd. Throwing error by third baseman Brandon Inge.
Wait, where did the run score?
Bautista scored. Gameday lied.

I'll take Vazquez as my fifth starter any day of the week, and when it comes down to it McCarthy is not an upgrade at all and a wash at best.
Just out of curiousity, how would you know this?

Bay K's with the bases loaded...
Of the games I've watched/followed Bay, he has been absolutely horrid in big spots.

Fwiw, over his career, Javy's era is exactly a full run worse in June than his overall average. So we can hope that this skid will end soon.
We knew going in that he could be streaky. Given that, it seems a bit early to bail, after one awful month.
I hope no one has completely bailed on him yet but he is pretty frusterating to watch right now and he just needs to get his ass in gear. Unless we can make a trade like talked about in this thread he'll get his chance to work himself out of this and hopefully he does.
Rock, the wind was pretty crazy going out to right today but nothing Vaz allowed had to do with the wind. Javy pitched horrible again, he really does need to get his ass in gear like most of our starting pitchers. I still have a ton of confidence in this staff because besides Mark everyone is better then they are pitching right now but eventually the offense is going to slow down a bit and we need our starters to step it up.

Batista's got a perfect game through 6 against the A's.
You knew the second this thread went up the no no would be a goner.

He has the talent, but has not developed the capablity to keep a team in a game. What is it -- lack of mental toughness? Is he afraid of hitting someone?
I believe he leads the league in hit batters or he's at least up there. He is mentally fragile though.
I'd also like to add that I'm very much against moving Vaz to the pen. Vaz is a mental midget and most likely he'd take the demotion very hard and just get rocked in the bullpen.
