  1. Richard didnt seem like a future major league starter to me either. Quite frankly, his secondary stuff is not good. His fastball is ok, doesnt sink as much as advertised and he has a difficult to repeat delivery. He may be a situational pen guy in the future, but nothing more IMO.
  2. I'd like to point out that Marte walked the bases loaded and gave up a walk off Grand Salami to the Rangers Marlon Byrd
  3. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) Yeah, I don't know why most of you Bears fans don't feel this way. He'd be waaaay better than Grossman or Orton. Good thing my Cowboys don't have to deal with such. psst, Get your popcorn ready! I cant believe any people dont feel that way. Even at this age he's twice the QB either of those guys are. He routinely took pasted together receiver corps and made them good.
  4. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) neither had Samardja for the cubs, had he? Only 37.1 innings in AAA.
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:53 PM) I wouldn't call Theriot an offensive miracle. He is a very good hitter, but has an okay OPS. Fontenot isn't a slouch either as he was a first-round pick a few years back and DeRosa is pretty much doing what he has done the last few years, putting up a near .800 OPS. I wouldn't call these guys offensive miracles, I would call them professional hitters who are hitting well. If by a few years back you mean 7 years ago, then yes he was a first round pick. Theriot is playing extremely over his head, as he showed with his season last year. I would say he is somewhere in between, more towards last years stats as soon at the NL remembers that he only hits the ball the other way. DeRosa has come back to earth over the last few weeks and is finally near what his production would be, which is different from the way he was hitting at the beginning of the cubs run.
  6. I'd take him in a heartbeat and install him ahead of Grossman and Orton immediately.
  7. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) I still don't think the Cubs do much in the playoffs. Their middle relief blows. The Brewers, Phillies, Mets can all beat them in a series. But then that's if the Cubs aren't hot, if they are hot, they could waltz through like the '05 Sox. They've been living off being hot at home all season, timely HR's walk offs, bloops, and wind-aided hits. When the playoffs come their SP's are far superior, but their pen isnt very good and the offensive miracles like Theriot, Fontenot, DeRosa, arent going to be .300-.400 guys.
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Couldn't agree more. I just dont get it. We get done with a series against the cubs where Aramis doesnt do s*** because we are busting him inside the whole time. Then the next few series, every team pitches him away. Soriano cant hit any breaking stuff away, or hard stuff up and in, teams in the NLC pitch him hard away and float easy stuff low and inside. Its ridiculous.
  9. Why doesnt the NL employ advance scouts? 1-2 inside heater to Soriano? Come on. I could get him to chase a breaking ball outside the zone.
  10. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) I imagine he'll finish up with B'ham. He's just now settling in and pitching well. Although, you never know. Right, I think we should keep his development on track by letting him keep starting in AA. Matt Thornton can hold down the 97mph pen arm slot for now.
  11. It would take a hell of a lot to take down some of these brick buildings downtown as compared to the double wides and pre-fab hopmes they destroy on a constant basis in other areas. If it was a powerful tornado however, Chicago could be devastated by a storm like that.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) My point was that you can't get quality relief pitching through waivers. I hope that your trip through Overreaction Land got you a free T-Shirt. Correct, you get players like randy Myers.
  13. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) Fields should not be playing in a game with a four run lead either I do not care what inning it is. The advance scouting of this team is horrendous to nonexistent. Why do you say that? There is no 3B in the league that would have had that hop. It jumped up 4 feet in the air over his head.
  14. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) Paulie will play first when Griffey needs a night off. I wouldn't platoon him with Thome. Platooning Thome is an awful idea as he hits lefties better than Konerko.
  15. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) I don't think they did, and its pretty much your sole of example of why Griffey may not be in CF -- despite Williams confirming it. Rowand was considered around here to be a Gold Glover in CF, why in the hell would he be moved to LF for Podsednik? Konerko was considered a GG 1B until a few months ago around here.......
  16. I was just watching the Twins feed of BA's homer the other night. "Brian Anderson, just like the rest of the White Sox has that uppercut swing...."
  17. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) Funny, the only good thing to ever come out of Detroit was Robocop. Beverly Hills Cop.
  18. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) Find some articles suggesting that, because I doubt that was the plan. Rowand just came off a .900 OPS season in 2004 as our CF, and considering how Lee (our LF) was dealt for Podsednik, I'd say he was slated for LF from day one. Yeah, like I'm going to do that research. Several outlets said PODS in CF, A-row in LF. I'm just saying. And for that Gomez fielding at the Cell comment before, that was probably the most wicked bending ball to center i've ever seen. NOBODY couldve read that one.
  19. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) Anyone hear Williams quotes concerning this trade? ESPN had a quick segment from him where he said CF is the easiest of the positions to field. There's something wrong with someone who belives that. And no, I don't believe he was "purposely doing this to deceive the media" or any other excuse some of you may come up with. He's not going to force a player to play a below average position just because he said so to the media. Pods was slated for CF the day they traded for him as well, and where did he play?
  20. Sucks that this trade helps out the Cubs as well.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) From the White Sox blog: Word out of Minnesota late this afternoon has Swisher passing uniform No. 30 along to Griffey and switching to uniform No. 1. Wow, my swish tshirt jersey went out of style rather quickly.
  22. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) Yes. 1999 - Took Bobby Bradley 8th, and Zito went 9th, Sheets went 10th 2000 - Sean Burnett, injuries killed his buzz 2001 - Vanbenshotten, and these names where still around after he was selected Youkilis, Bonderman, Wright, Crosby, Ryan Howard. 2002 - #1 pick was Bullington, ahead of Upton, Fielder, Francis, Swisher, Blanton, Kazmir, Francoeur, Hamels, Cain 2003 - Maholm screw the rest, they suck I think Alvarez breaks that trend.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) Is it true that Swish is changing his number to #1 and giving #30 to Jr.? Dirty 1 doesnt quite have the same ring to it.
