QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) PK's contract was great on so many levels. its one of the best really. He is also coming around now. Secondly, I still think its a very high hope to think that Gio will be up next year. He is obviously faring very well in AA, but he needs to hit AAA and play the same way before I believe he is ready. Floyd on the other hand seems to be coming around quite well in AAA.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) Well, Contreras has a no trade clause, a big contract, and every other major league can see that he simply looks terrible on the mound. So I think he'll be difficult to move. The Sox are likely stuck with that albatross of a contract through 2009. Also, I don't think Masset is very good. He has 4 pitches but little control, his fastball is a mediocre 92 MPH and his WHIP is 1.87 and he has more walks than Ks. If the Sox DL Contreras I'd rather see Floyd called up. I think Konerko's contract was the first one he messed up on. With all due respect, Masset's fastball pretty much sat at 94 when he started. With that he has a plus curve a decent slider and a change. I think if he becomes a starter you see both his ERA and WHIP drop.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) IMO, that's a fluke. Would it really be that horrible to trade Contreras and insert Masset into the rotation?

White Sox vs. Phillies, 6/12/07 (L)

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) But Rock that demise happened way too quick to be age. He went from throwing all of his pitches 3/4 and above to now he is a side armer. He stopped throwing over the top, the minute his sciatica acted up. When he came back from the DL he wasnt the same. He still throws over the top to lefties and cant hit 92 to save his life. Hes 50 years old, it was just a matter of time. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 06:55 PM) Contreras has a tin head. The minute someone hits him or something bad happen behind him, he falls apart. I think its more than that. We have watched the decline of an old player. Jose was at 94-96 mph on his fastball which has fallen off to 88-91. He no longer has the nasty break on his sidearm fastballs or his two-seemers. He's done, and frankly we should deal him to philly or NYM asap. -

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) Thanks for posting that Rock, you really have no idea how much I needed that. Seeing it for the first time was even better. Hey, when its all said and done, I absolutely love this team. They may frustrate me sometimes, and really ruin my days, but I still love them.

So, we know now why KW jumped at the phils offer. He was probably going to deal him to the first team that wouldnt do a physical before the trade. As soon as the Phils said they wouldnt, he pulled the trigger.

You know why i like Petco so much, besides the great location, food and interior of the stadium, but because you can buy those 5 dollar lawn tickets and sit in center field and watch the game. Thats what baseball is all about IMO.

Ken Griffey Jr heading to Atlanta?
RockRaines replied to Steve9347's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) Gotcha....good point. I've actually thought a lot of Danks recent struggles lately have to due with his lack of throwing consistent strikes. I don't know if you've noticed this, but he seems to be coming off the mound to the right a little more than he had earlier in the year, and that's causing his ball to sail up and out to righties. Yeah, hes been falling off the mound and not driving towards the plate. As a young pitcher he is going to have some mechanical fixes throughout the season, but he is also as good as it gets attacking hitters. For a guy his age that is very rare. I can only hope that Gio follows the same path. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) What are you talking about? (and I don't mean this negatively, I'm interested in what philosophy you're referring to). Well. Our starters have always had the philosophy under Coop to pound the strike zone and attack the hitters. Its really a Mark Buehrle strategy that we have tried to instill in the rest of our rotation. As soon as they had Danks doing that in ST, he completely changed and matured as a pitcher. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Because KW got fixated on Gavin Floyd, and thought Coop could fix him. Also, how do you know that KW would have gone ahead and made a trade that would help for the future....but it meant getting rid of someone like Dye? You accuse us of making a lot of presumptions, but how do you know that maybe KW and Ozzie think that this team can still compete for the playoffs? Dont speak too soon on Floyd. The guy has been coming on of late. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 02:19 PM) Yes, he has been pitching better. However, I have it on very good authority that KW thought Gavin Floyd would be our 5th starter this season. Everyone thought he would be, even OOTP. Of course that was before Danks proved that he was way beyond where Texas thought he was in terms of dev, in fact our organizational philosophy towards SP's changed his approach and made him a very good SP for us. -

Well lets think about this: If we can swing for another just about ready for the bigs SP like Danks/Gio. We could swing some of that saved cash, deal one of our other starters and big an even bigger splash this upcoming offseason. If we could keep Buehrle, insert either Gio or another young guy into the rotation and take some of Dye, Gooch, etc's sal to land maybe Ichiro or something like that, we keep fans, get younger and move forward. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) She doesn't count. Her mind is cloudy with raging hormones right now. I never thought I could read mood swings through a message board before........

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) The 05 Sox were not lucky. They were a fantastic defensive team, with a solid offense that could manufacture runs and a studly pitching staff and pen. It was one of the more dominant teams in the recent era when you factor in all the strenghts that club had (albeit I know a lot of people whined about the offense because it wasn't one that would put up 10 plus runs a ton but it did consistently get the runs necessary). Obvioulsy people will say the club was lucky based on the number of one run games it won, but that was because the bullpen was stellar, the defense was good, and the team could get a run off a leadoff walk because they had a guy like Pods that could snag extra bases. We also won 90 games last year with virtually the same talent as this year. I think THIS year is the outlier -
As many of you know, I dont like to be negative especially about the Sox who are probably my favorite thing in the world. Here is a video for those who want to smile today http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...deoid=640310075

Jaqcue Jones (not a rumor or fact)

Just what we need, another guy who cant hit LHP -
is it really worth bickering? Walker should go, even if its not his fault, thats what teams do to change the environment, so the players hear a different voice.

buehrle should be the first pitcher we sign to a 5+ year contract. -
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) Speaking of Ribs, and going to RibFest this year? I go every year for the 4th of July and have some of the best Ribs in the world. I usually eat a whole family of pigs when I go there. I went to the one downtown this last weekend, it was pretty good, but I was not impressed by how many of the vendors straight up grill their ribs.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) Brady Clark DFA'd today..... yeah, because hes brutal. If we trade one of our established players, we better be getting younger, no moving laterally. -
If anyone lives downtown and wants the best wing you can get, birdsnest on southport.
