Official 2010-2011 NCAA Football Thread

Real nervous about the Illinois game tomorrow, smells like a trap game to me, and I think former OSU commit Justin Green plays a large part in it. -
Root for or against the Twins in the playoffs?

Konerko to address free agency before TH game
RockRaines replied to fathom's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) I don't see it there anymore. I don't think if Mark were on the open market today, our fans would be clamoring for us to spend $14 million on him as a free agent who wasn't already with the Sox. That tells me everything right there. But would Mets, Dodger, Cards, Cubs etc want him on the team? -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) JR will find the money for PK if the budget is an option. We are going to have to unload someone's salary to take on Konerko. I have been saying all along that Buehrle is a good candidate for this since we can get a decent return, but it has to be somebody. -
If Mitchell would have been healthy this year I can say with confidence that he may have taken some at bats in Chicago right about now. I am hoping he picks up where he left off before the injury.

Revival of Sox Supporters Game (10/1)

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) That whole statement is a contradiction. And clearly sarcastic. -

I'm a very supportive fan, but I follow Sox fan rules, if they are out of it or suck, I dont go. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 30, 2010 -> 12:22 AM) I just learned that there's a drink called an "Adios Motherf***er." http://www.drinksmixer.com/cat/3217/ We had a similar drink in college that we called the mind probe. 2 of those and you were f***ed.

So Oberon is gone again, f***!!!!!!!!! Guess I am back to the Amber for the time being. Also, Flaxx, have you ever gone to Violet Hour in Chicago yet? It seems to be right up your alley with the old school cocktails with handmade bitters.

QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) Maybe someone here can help me with this. There is a certain flavor in some beers, usually questionable micros, that immediately gives me a headache and makes me nauseous. And then there is a restaurant here that makes me sick whenever I get a beer on tap. I get sick immediately from only a few sips. I figure the restaurant doesn't clean their lines, but I know immediately that the beer is bad because of a certain flavor that I gues is like cardboardy or licorice. I know that flavors indicate different things but when I taste I know I have to stop. Anyone know what might cause such a fast reaction and fit that flavor profile? Dirty lines at a bar can make you pretty sick, almost immediate hangover-type symptoms.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) Lost in this debate is the fact that the Stanley Cup is the most s***tily engraved trophy in all of sports. That engraving looks like a left-handed monkey engraved it right-handed. Look at Kris Versteeg's name - damn! Seriously, its all crooked and s***, and the band is scratched to s***. Couldnt they use a typing-engraver instead of a guy with a heated up hanger?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) I wonder what is gonna happen with this Nick Collins thing. He says the bears fan dropped an N-bomb on him and thats why he threw his mouthpiece at the fan. Now a news station has pictures of the fan or fans involved in the altercation and is asking people to identify him. Should be interesting, it is basically Collins word against the fan here http://www.sportsbybrooks.com/tv-station-a...witnesses-29054 Nothing will come of it for the fan, thats for sure. Collins is a dumb ass for reacting. He should have been focused on not drawing so many dumb penalties.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) He missed a few tackles including a huge one on the play where Jones fumbled that was inexcusable on 2nd and I think 17. He also didn't do anything different in coverage than any of the Bears other corners last night. He tackled 100% better than Bowman, that was enough.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) How's that bulls***? The Packers made a ton of stupid mistakes and seemingly outplayed the Bears for pretty much the entire first half. There's no doubt they're the more talented team, they just didn't play like a very smart one. That's like saying the Sox didn't give a game away after losing to the Royals or Indians after 5 balks and 5 errors. Stupid mistakes: False starts: Scared of the pass rush Holding: Scared of the pass rush Pass Interference: WR is open, only way to stop the catch Those penalties are all a part of the Bears personnel outplaying the GB personnel. The roughing calls were dumb mistakes and shouldnt have happened, but alot of the penalties had to to with GB not being able to match up with Bears players. I'm not sure what seemingly outplayed means, if you mean GB had long, clock-draining drives keeping the ball away from the Bears, then yes that happened. Aaron Rogers was the best player on the field for either team, and he had pretty much the best QB rating a player can have in the first half. If anything, Rogers outplayed the Bears for alot of the game, at other positions, I'm not sure it was lopsided towards the Pack. Matthews was supposed to come in and dominate the horrific O-Line of the Bears and no-name Kevin Schaffer pretty much shut him down the entire game.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) 2 4 stars and a 3 star in your last 3 classes? Tuberville has 2 4 stars and 2 3 stars in this class alone :-P, and the number one RB in the nation Jonathan Gray's dad went to Texas Tech . Ohio State impresses me the most with your OL/DL recruiting, and I'm always surprised how much talent comes out of Ohio each year. 2 4 stars in 2012 No room in 2011 2 4 stars in 2010 1 4 and 1 3 star in 2009 ( the 3 star being Jordan Hall who has looked ridiculous) Easily the best stable of backs I've seen at OSU in years. They are redshirting Rod Smith this year and he could be the next big back for OSU, of course he has to outplay Jaamal Berry who is absolutely ridiculous as a RS frosh this season. Add to that the two already 4 star guys they have for 2012 and its a very good crop. Of course you then add to that the #1 QB for 2011 and like you said top OL recruits and its going to be another good run. -

The Vest is quietly hoarding top RB recruits year in and year out. Brionte Dunn just committed for the class of 2012, he will probably be yet another top 100 player at RB for JT joining Warren Ball who committed at the beginning of the month. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) This is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. You can't count interceptions that come as a result of illegal hits to the quarterback, or by basically tackling our receivers. The Packers basically played outside the rules for 25% of the game and then are going to whine that the results of those plays don't count? Its like saying that foul ball home runs were the only reason a team lost a baseball game. Its not legal and it doesnt count. And Packers fans will probably completely ignore the series that was entirely taken over by Peppers as he drew flags, pushed the offense back and then blocked a FG try while basically man handling the entire GB offensive line.

Finally got to watch the OSU game since i missed it yesterday. I cannot remember a game where a QB threw, ran, and caught a TD pass for the Buckeyes, it may have never been done before. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 24, 2010 -> 08:17 AM) I really enjoy paying attention to facial expressions in Sunny. Sometimes I can't stop laughing just looking at some of their faces. Dennis's drunken rant had me laughing, but Mac's face in he background kicked it up a notch.

I thought Sunny and HIMYM were both pretty funny last night. Sunny sometimes needs to be watched a few times.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) Some people just can't see that. I understand 2005 was HUGE, but how much did Ozzie have to do with that? You'd have had to PURPOSELY mismanage to screw up what that team had. As Rock said, a manager's role (IMO as well) is overly analyzed. Just make the correct fundamental, statistical/strategic moves; IMO that's good enough. But you have to understand that you are partially blind in this conversation as well. Look at what you just said. You give ZERO credit to Ozzie for the moves he made in 2005 including those in the playoffs, yet you very easily point out his negative influence on the team. You made my points into a defending Ozzie position which you probably will again even when I clearly pointed out that I was talking in generalities about people's opinions being influenced by outside factors. There is more that just Greg on one extreme side of the discussion, there are the haters on the other side which have a very narrow view of the truth as well. At least I finally see where you are coming from as you put it clearly in your last line. That is all you really needed to say in this thread instead of insulting Greg and typing long responses to my posts about defending Ozzie when i clearly stated I wasnt. It makes alot of sense to me that you want a more logical/statistical influenced manager who is more comfortable playing the game by the book instead of feel. That would be the logical direction to go after getting rid of a pure feel manager. Its like replacing a players coach with a hard-nosed defensive minded guy because its a change. But I'm not sure the pointed insults at people helped you make your point. And back to 2005 for the last time. They didnt win in spite of Ozzie at all. That was clearly one of his best managerial performances as he played his cards almost perfectly from beginning to end, especially in the playoffs. Putting El Duque in against Boston, Bobby in early against Bagwell, leaving Cotts in to strike out the side, finding Bobby immediately after his blown save, leaving the pitchers in in LA, Geoff Blum, Willie Harris, aligning the rotation so Freddy pitched on the road, Dye in the 3-hole. He made alot of top notch moves that postseason and leading up to it, I am not sure how you can ever state the opposite.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 23, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) After watching that clip on the football team singing "Single Ladies" I will never watch nor respect that show. Why that in particular? Its not friday night lights, the story and actual reality of HS life doesnt really have that much to do with the show. Its a musical and it pretty much follows general rules of a Broadway musical in that singing can happen at any time performed by pretty much everyone. I am sure when you were a kid you didnt say "f*** this Mary Poppins bulls***, chimney sweepers would never sing and dance." If you actually watched Glee and saw the downright high level of talent they have on the show that would rival any top billing Broadway show, you would have to respect the show if only for the fact that the kids perform on an extremely high level. I personally believe this is why so many actors want to do a cameo on the show, they recognize that this very basic TV show actually casts actors and singers with real talent.
