QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 01:13 PM) hes the one im most anxious to see. just bcuz he looked great in bp doesnt mean anything or that he has ton of power. i want to see if he cant actually hit or is he guna be like andruw jones or something lol yeah i want to see him too, as i've never seen him play...i have way lower expectations for him than most on here though (not necessarily low, just tempered)...I'm also excited for Beckham and Flowers...Gordon for sure...because i dont think its out of the realm of possibility that if our 2b struggles, that beckham could be starting september

Quentin Owens Dye in the OF Fields Ramirez Getz Broussard across the IF AJ catching Richard Thome DHing I'll be waiting to see if guys like Beckham, Flowers, JorDanks, Viciedo, Nunez get in after an AB or two (or IP)for the starters

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 12:42 PM) Scott Eyre is even more broke than me. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_leagu...?urn=mlb,143663 if you are a major league baseball player...why do you have all of your money in one spot?? youd think these guys would be smarter than this

QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) I dont even think I really root against the Cubs anymore,I dont have to. Its the fun in the anticipation of how are they gonna screw this one up. It can happen within a game or a series and eventually they will find a way to implode by the end of the season. It provides alot of entertainment for me throughtout the summer and sometimes fall. i agree...but, isn't getting entertainment from them losing the same thing as rooting against them? One of these years (sooner rather than later IMO) that team is going to win the pennant and possibly World Series...they are consistently putting out a division winning product and will continue to do so as long as they outspend everyone in that division by alot, and eventually they will breakthrough in the playoffs (Nearly happened in 03) ...I guess i'm just bracing myself for it, and i really think it could happen for them this year, although that makes it much more enjoyable when they do lose

in an ideal world Contreras and Colon make the rotation, with Richard in the pen, and Poreda and Marquez growing as starters in AAA With the ability of Betemit to play everywhere on the IF, and Lillibridge to potentially play CF (and even Alexei if need be) I think the sox will take 12 pitchers...especially with jose and bartolo coming off of injury.. If I was ozzie right now, here would be my team Getz 2b Fields 3b Quentin LF Thome DH Dye RF Konerko 1b AJ C Ramriez SS Anderson CF I'm not too crazy with having two young guys at the top like that, but I assume 3-6 is locked in, so I like having strong OBPs up at the top, and cadidly I think Getz and Fields will have better obps than Alexei, Anderson and AJ Bench: Armstrong, Betemit, Lillibridge, Owens (who would be great PR late, then he can go to left, CQ to right and Dye can come off the field) ...somehow i don't see us casting off wise, though i would like it Bullpen: Jenks, Thornton, Linebrink, Dotel, Richard, Carassco, Wasserman/nunez/Russell...I haven't seen nunez, but I like Russell better than Wasserman

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 02:44 AM) Man, you're still a huge Hinrich fan I see. I used to be one too. Now I realize that he does NOTHING well anymore. So much for his great defense. His man to man D vs Ford is probably why the Bulls lost that game vs IND the other day. He'll go off for 30 every once in a while, giving everyone hope. Realistically, he's just taking minutes from our 2 best players, Gordon and Rose. Oh, and Tyrus still isn't that good. the thing about hinrich though is that he does nothing poorly either...yeah he had a bad game defensively against Ford, but he still is at least an average defender, and probably a tick better than that....At this point Kirk is what he is...he's a bench player who can defend, distribute and score at a moderate level, which off the bench isn't a bad thing...he'll never play up the level of justifying his contract and he's certainly a guy the bulls could live without, but IMO hes still a good bench player and there are plenty of horrendous contracts in the NBA

i love the start of ST games...chickachika yeah

Where do you guys foresee our prospects starting? Heres how I see it Beckham: BHam...could move to AAA by the end of the year, and even a sept callup isn't out of picture if he rakes like i anticipate Viciedo: I dont think he'll make the big league team. Probably will start at AAA but also wouldn't be surprised if he's at AA. I know most on this site have higher hopes, but people need to remember how young this kid is Flowers: Bham...could be in charlotte by end of the year...I love this kids stick...lets hope he can develop behind the plate Poreda: Could be on the big league team, otherwise will start at Charlotte Shelby: Starting CF in Bham Danks: Starting CF in W-S Allen: BHam probably....could move up to AAA by end of year

Again, we had one last year and I liked it so i'm starting a new one. I understand cleveland added derosa and wood, and anything they get from hafner and martinez would be an upgrade over what they got last year, but who is going to start for that team?? Right now Lee and Carmona are a good 1,2 ...but after that right now they have Reyes (who got knocked around in a bad NL central, despite that 1 hit loss he threw vs. us in 06?...thome HR was the diff) Laffey, Sowers? Laffey was good to start last year but just plummeted after the break, and sowers stinks...Carl Pavano hasn't had a good full year in like 5 years too and cant be counted on for more than 5 starts IMO The more I think about it, the more I like the twins in the division. They'll get Cuddyer back for a full season, Kubel is coming into his own, Mauer and Morneau are Mauer and Morneau. Plus you'd think that Young and Span would continue to get better (though I could see Span regressing a bit). Either way, the pitching will get a full year of a healthy liriano, plus slowey and baker should get better. And blackburn and perkins are certainly as solid as any 4,5 in the division

haha larry hughes first few minutes with the knicks were beyond horrible...and he got booed....lol the devin harris shot to beat the 76ers was ridiculous

watching the DEs workout on NFL network...michael johnson is a specimen...i wouldn't mind trading down to mid 20s and grabbing him if the top 4 tackles are gone when we pick at 18 whitesoxbrian, i agree with you on Tyson Jackson...I know it was Kiper who said we would take Jackson, and usually I like Kiper, but no way in hell we take him. the only place he fits in our scheme is inside as a tackle and we have tommie, adams, izzy and harrison... -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) I haven't posted in here yet, so I will do it now. Boo, Cubs suck, I hate them. Actually, a lot of my Cub hate has died since October. Not all of it, but a lot of it. So I won't be in here as much this year as I was in the past. At least not until this October comes around, at which point if we're out of it and they are in the playoffs, I might go back to venom of past years. But during the regular season, I probably won't be in here as much. Carry the torch though, traditonal posters of this thread! when the sox drop 2 of 3 to the yankees, while the cubs sweep the pirates...and all your cub fan friends give you crap for it...youll be back in here
-
alot of people are saying how much the cubs will miss mark derosa...and they will miss his .857 OPS from last year (even though I dont think he'll match that, especially not in the AL) but a guy nobody is mentioning that they might miss even more is jim edmonds...in about 300 PA last year edmonds had a .370 obp and a .937 OPS for them with 19 HR and 17 2b....edmonds probably won't do that again, but between derosa and edmonds thats alot of production bradley and miles will have to make up for

QUOTE (Fotop @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) The bears clearly need another tackle with Tait considering retirement and St. Clair (good riddance) likely leaving via FA. One of Jason Smith, Eugene Monroe, Andre Smith, or Michael Oher will be available when the Bears pick (one of the latter two most likely). They should take one of them if they're on the board. Jason smith and monroe will certainly be gone....Andre Smith is going to fall after his debacle at the combine (especially given his previous character concerns)...i doubt he'll fall all the way to 18 after hes been projected in teh top 5 for a while, but Oher might. Its a pretty significant dropoff after those 4 though, and if they all get taken, then what do we do? If Maclin is there (unlikely) I'd nab him, but I'm not sold on any of the other WR besides crabree as being a top 18 player in this draft. I really really wish we were picking like 3 picks higher and we would for sure get a top tier OT -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) It's only a blurb, but today's Tribune sets up the scenario of Lillibridge, Betemit, Owens, Wise, and a catcher making the team, 12 pitchers being carried, and Anderson going back to AAA. what happens to Nix? AAA? I understand that lillibridge has the ability to play multiple positions and is fast, but look at the AAA numbers of Nix and those of lillibridge last year....not even comparable Nix .303/.373/.591 17 HR 11 SB (thats a huge SLG...21 2b and 17 HR in only 260 ABs is a boatload) Lillibridge .220/.294/.344 4 HR 23 SB I like Nix more than most and wish he would make the team, but I think Ozzie will certainly start Getz (which is also fine by me) and that makes it tough for Nix to make the team as he basically can't play anywhere else but 2b. Betemit is a lock, as is whoever will backup C....if we carry 12 pitchers that leaves only 2 spots for some combination owens/anderson/wise/lillibridge/nix with one of those first 3 starting in CF

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) I guess that depends on what you think the Bears "needs" are. I think the Bears biggest need is offensive line, specifically tackle and I dont believe that any of the top tackles will be available at the first pick. Cornerback is a position I think that they may be able to get a Vontae Davis at in the first. I dont know right now, I just always have a negative feeling about what the Bears are going to do on draft day. unless they plan to move Tillman to safety (something lovie laughed off) i doubt they take a CB, and i really hope they dont...there are bigger holes than CB if you ask me....they at least have depth at CB with Tillman Vasher Graham....Right now Safety is way more important IMO...Craig Steltz is penciled in as the starting FS right now To me the biggest problem with the defense was the inability to get to the QB last year, and they desperately need a pass rushing DE, though it seems as if the bears may be content to just hope Marinelli solves the "getting to the QB" problem -
QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 10:56 PM) "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" looks like the episode that could get Terry O'Quinn an Emmy. cant wait...ive been watching on my own time on abc.com...now that im caught up it sucks having to wait to see the next one...the whole time i was watching on my own i thought to myself...man this would suck to have to wait a week to find out what happens lol
-
its hard for me to get excited about the oscars...ive watched em in the past and they are horrible long/boring...whats pathetic is that im going to watch something probably even more boring (NFL combine)....btw brian i should ask for your man card after you used the word preggers lol at the penelope cruz thing though

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) I love the picture of him bunting. LOL throughout little league and in high school we were always taught to keep the bat head up when bunting...at least a 45 degree angle...that way its difficult to pop it up...any good reason why crede, and so many major leaguers drop the bat head?? seems so basic to me, and we were always told what crede is doing there is the cardinal sin of bunting
-
anyone know why the dropped so many games? a few years ago they broadcasted almost all of em and it was great...i suspect ratings were terrible, but you can't tell me that the fourth replay of sports rise or the replay of the previous nights hawks game get better ratings
-
is it just me or have the hawks been horrible with a 2 man advantage? Cant remember who they played but about a month ago they have like 3 of em in 1 game and didnt convert...i know minny is the top penalty kill team though so i'll cut em a bit of slack

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Last I checked Samardidja was penciled in as the sixth man for the job behind Marshall and followed by Heilman which frankly, isn't a terrible move on the Cubs part. The Shark has almost the same repertoire (and problems) as Aaron Poreda and is certainly their next best option when you consider Marshall's going to have to be Harden's Longman and that there's a 50% chance Heilman will be dreadful. Other then, Mitch Atkins they really have no other realist options in that organization. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...story?track=rss i suppose i misinterpreted the headline to mean that jeff would be the favorite ...but re-reading it i guess it just means he'll start game 1 of spring training... either way theres a huge difference between mid 90s from a righty and mid 90s from a lefty, especially given the enormous difference in their peripherals.... Poreda in minors: 207 IP 166 K 50 BB Samardjiza : 285 IP 166 K 114 BB In 78 fewer innings Poreda has the same number of K's and 64 fewer BBs...they may have the same problems with developing offspeed, but the Shark has had big time control problems, while that has been a relative strength for Poreda but i do agree with you that heilman would be terrible as a starter...if marshall can't do it i really for see them having quite a few problems with this slot in the rotation
-
the cubs are going to give samardjiza the first shot at the 5th starter job...a big mistake IMO...i know they gave him alot of money when they signed him, but he has bullpen arm written all over him if you ask me...i dont think hes got the control to be a starter....right now hes got a good fastball and flashed an above average, yet inconsistent splitter...his slider didnt impress me and he certainly didnt throw it with any consistency last year, so hes basically a 2 pitch pitcher without much command...a recipe to get knocked around ....if im the cubs id rather see marshall out there (though his upside is lower, i think hes more likely to give you solid innings)

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 21, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) Anybody know why Rose played so little in the 4th last night? He ended up with 26 minutes, but with 7 players dressed (hunter doesnt count), he should see way more time than that. just Vinny holding back the future of the franchise again? yeah frankly...hinrich has been outplaying rose lately IMO....not a knock on Rose, he's young and will have some growing pains, and Kirk is a pretty darn good player when healthy...Rose will certainly be the better player in the future but IMO Hinrich has been playing really well over the last 2 weeks or so
