  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) Garcia is having an amazing night, as is Santana. However, during the 2nd half of the season, Santana has been the far superior pitcher. Personally, I'm a lot more worried about the Indians and their dynamic offense. who starts in teh playoffs (if we get there) buerhle in game 1 for sure prolly, but who game 2??? i give the nod to freddy, and even before this i would have cuz i think he has more experience than garland
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Don't jinx it. saying something like this jinxes it in itself
  4. i would think its most known for pizza. when i tell people im from chicago they comment about the pizza alot. my friends all say they want to go to chicago and get good chicago pizza, but they have no idea about the beef. they do know about hot dogs, but less so than pizza. so pizza > dogs >>> beef that said, im in nashville, and i cant find a damn beef stand or anything anywhere. any beef that is sold is cheesesteaks, which dont even come close to comparing to a good italian beef. the beef is teh one thing, even more than pizza, that i really get a craving for.......what a catch by dye...........it may be because i am italian and always eat beef at home, but i think its cuz there are all sorts of pizza i can still eat, but there are 0 beef sandwiches sold around here
  5. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) Here's the link: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=fanb...nball&type=lgns The article says that it's probably just a move to block other teams, but with the Twins' recent surge coupled with their need for a 2B (and SS and 3B) I think it could mean more. Soriano could really give them a boost. Oh for a week ago when I had no worries... so let me get this straight.....the twins claimed him....that means he didnt clear right? if the twins claimed him, doesnt texas have to either "dump" him on the twins, or retract him from waivers? or had soriano already cleared? if he had already cleared, why isnt kenny talkin to texas also???
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 21, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) He's 5-6 with 3HR on the day now. good lord

    8/20 Games

what has been great to see lately is the amount chris young has been walking. his walk rate has been real good, 60 in 405 ABs. what gets me so excited about young is that last year he was thought of as a tools player, quick bat, great speed, would develop great power once he grew into the frame. well lookin at his numbers, .916 OPS, with 60 extra base hits and 60 walks in what would normally be 2/3 of a year in the bigs is damn good from a stats perspective as well. seems like so many of our offensive prospects have been "tools" guys , and didnt have the peripherals that suggest that they would make it big. nice to see young is a great combination of both worlds......only knock is his strike outs, but asssuming his increased walk rate is no fluke, increasing walks is the first sign that strike outs will begin to come down
  9. AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH this team is pissing me off so much right now. first time they are making me mad all year and its august 19. not bad. on that note im going to bed.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) Frank's .590 SLG% proved to be real cancerous to the team, huh? its insanely funny how overrated this chemistry thing is sometimes. sure, its not worth it to have a guy like jose paniagua on the team who gives you no production. but if i have a guy even like AJ was thought to be, id take that production if it meant the trainer gettin kicked in the sack, and a few squabbles with my 5th starter over ben davis anyday
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) The main reason the Burnett trade didn't go through was Burnett had absolutely no intention of resigning with the Sox. He knows he's going to be the main pitcher on the market this offseason, and he's been rumored to want to pitch for the Red Sox for a while now. Taking on Lowell's contract would have been an awful idea. fathom thats the point again tho...there are two optinos here. 1.) you pay the guy what hes gonna want, and he will resign, so money was an issue. or 2.) you trade for him and let him walk. obviously thats a huge gamble and bmac coulda bit us in the ass for years to come. but us not making the trade could bite us in the ass for years to come too.
  12. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:57 PM) I have noticed this and my respect for hawk is slowly droping he is in love with this team to much. i love hawk and i cant imagine what sox baseball will be like when he leaves. im 20 and hes all ive ever known from teh booth. ive had many an arguement supporting him over the likes of steve stone. but this year has been a slurp fest from hawk to the point where its getting annoying and frustrating. that said, i still dont want anyone other than hawk in there, id just like him to call it as it is a little bit more.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) Normally, that is true. But Hawk has become like a senile grandma right now who only cheers for her kid (even though she's naive to the fact that maybe he's not the best player), and blames the umpire for every close call that doesn't go their way. the worst thing about it all is that hawk sits there and still acts like this team is on a mission from god. he should or ozzie should call someone out here a good while before the postseason to light a fire under someones ass. i think the players got a little comftorable with their lead and alittle cocky.
  14. QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Here's how I'm gonna look at it: The next month and a half will either be the most tragic collapse in baseball history or the most ecstatic moment celebrating the clincher and the amazing season. Either way it'll exciting, and I'll probably have a heart attack, but there's nothing I can do about it. The only thing I can do is hope for the best. When everyone's back in the lineup, and everyone's healthy, the offense will inevitably click, and they'll all be in the zone. AJ, Pods, Iguchi, Everett, Konerko, Dye, and even Crede are all amazing when they're at their best, and if they all clicked at once, we'd be seeing more long winning streaks to end the season. when have they all clicked at once this year? that was the thing hawk used to say about even our old O. "this team hasnt even clicked at once yet, and were still scoring tons of runs" but...did they ever click at once? no. things dont work out that well. and when they do you go on 20 game winning streaks like oakland did a few years ago (thats with combined pitching clicking). at any rate whats frustrating is this O is built "to score on a more consistent basis" and we shouldnt have to wait for them to click at once. separately crede and uribe havent clicked all year. and really neither has rowand. so im not completely sold on the fact that any of them will....seing how its nearly sept.
  15. QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) I agree with parts of that. Pods dosent affect the pitching staff that is half the reason we are this good. But pods got on base alot making people swing for the basehit. With him gone most player are coming up with the bases empty so im guessing they just guess well ill hit the homer and boost my stats had pods been on bat thye would be swinging for the basehit. If this team would just switch out of the homerun mentalitly everything would be fine. i agree 100% that he changes the dynamics of our O and may help to get people better pitches to hit. i just think its foolish for others (not you) to say that him being out is the only reason that we were 74-30 and are now 0-5
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) Look at their career numbers, and you could have never expected this type of season from all of them. Of course, Rowand and especially Uribe have put up disappointing seasons this year. a good question to write to jayson stark and his useless info column would be when the last time a team was 29 games over .500 with a 10 game lead in division and had 0 players on the team batting over .280
  17. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) daa don't judge the bug bite thing. WE here have no idea of how bad that was. Trust the medical staff a bit, dude. Cmon; get a grip. You can't assume dye was a puss cause he didn't play with those bites. i dont think dye was apuss. iirc he said he was ok to play and ozzie still sat him. i will conceed that i dont know the extent of it. i suppose in two weeks i could be glad we are resting guys than seeing them get hurt for the playoffs. its just frustrating at the moment.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) Where would he play? honestly, i keep thinking that joke is gonna get old. but for some reason i laugh every time i see it, even though i know its coming
  19. QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) If Pods is overrated, then how do you explain how the Sox got off to their best start in 100 years and have been around 30 games over .500 for what seems like most of the summer. How were they getting it done? Luck? Solo Homeruns? Honestly it's a mystery to me, and I've watched every single game. the sheer fact that this team was 74-40 when pods was in the lineup or whatever nad 0-5 since or whatever other numbers you wanna throw out at me is fine. this is what i mean when i say the fans overrate podesdnik. he sure is a catalyst for our offense. unquestionably. but what people tend to forget is when we had the big boppers, remember when our pitching staff was 10th in teh AL. we are now tops, or damn near close to it. yes podsednik is a big part of our O. but think of it like this in terms of basketball, since its easier to quantify than baseball.......... a team of five scores 100 points, each scoring 20 points. they win alot 100-95. but one of the five gets injured, and hte back up only scores 10 a game. now you lose 95-90. so yes, hes important, but is he the only reason the team kept winning 100-95? no, the contributions of the others are equally important. i hate to have to explain it like that, but to be honest thats really the only way i can say what i understnad in my own head. at any rate i love podsednik and that trade with mil. was incredible for us, because it also got us AJ and Tad. i just feel fans have a tendancy to give him sole credit for being 34 games over before he left, when the improved pitching staff deserves more credit IMO sorry for the lengthy post
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) I think he'll turn out to be a very good #4 OFer. Though people were saying the same thing about Rowand. IMO rowand isnt THAT much better than a 4th OFer. i think offensively hes a decent 3rd guy in the OF. not many teams in the league play an OFer with a .333 obp and a .412 slugging....not many playoff teams at least
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) Well, if Pods is that mighty, we might as well make him President of the United States. If we're expecting things to get better just cause Pods returns to this team, we're definitely desperate. fathom i have to agree with you and i hate to say this, cuz i know how many people are gonna take offense to what i am about to say and slam me and call me probably everything from a pessimist to a cub-lover, but scott podsednik may be the most overrated player by the fans (by the fans key phrase) ive seen on this team in a long long time
  22. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Even if you don't count Paulie today, Ozzie has been manipulating the lineup way too much. Why is always 2 or 3 guys per night? It's stupid. its always a day game too. every day game seems like widger plays along with ozuna. wtf ozzie. these are adults. countless numbers of other people have to go to work early every now and then too.
  23. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) Dont look now, the Twins and Indians win and have made some serious ground. Tribe 9 1/2 back Twins 10 1/2 back When is panic time? id say when it gets to 6 games. if it gets to 6. especially with all the games we have to play against the twins still
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) He had months to get a Bat. But he listened to Ozzie and the chemistry line. Well we are beyond the waiver deadline and we got no help. Now he might get shutout because of this. I still keep going back to Soxfest when KW talked about saving money on Fas in the offseason was like putting money in the bank for the stretch run in June/July. It would give us flexibility. Geoff Blumm is not what I had in mind when he said that comment. im in complete agreement with you. i know there are gonna be a million posts now in response to my post and yours saying "oh well the trade market was soooo bad. lamarr is nuts! nobody traded for anyone good" the fact of the matter is that kenny could have made a move before the deadline. maybe the market sucked, it just means kenny had to pony up and deal a little more off. i personally feel that there is no way in the near future that the white sox will have 1/2 as good of a chance as they do now, so imo a move had to be made to get it done this year.
  25. QUOTE(the People's Champ @ Aug 19, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) go on a little losing streak, and all of a sudden everybody wants to cry "injured". Does this team even want to win the damn division. Suck it up and play i swear to god ozzie sits a guy if he breaks a nail. lets not forget ozzie sat jermaine dye for 4 goddamn games because of bug bites. BUG BITES! i dont care how nasty the infection was, there are guys who go out there and play through alot more than a topical skin infection from a bug bite. i know we dont want to risk players getting injured, but someone could stub his toe and be out a week.........................maybe im just too frustrated right now
