what do justin berg, esmailin caridad, and james russell all have in common? I've never heard of them and they are all in the cubs pen to start the season... Lou is going to have to hope his starters give him 7 just about every game, and when 4-5 come up in that rotation as gorzelanny and silva its going to get ugly. Those two guys are going to have plenty of 4 and 5 inning starts, and that pen is going to have to cover a ton of innings. Hell even after those 3 guys i named earlier, they have Samardjiza, Grabow, and Marshall....not exactly lights out. Not to mention everyone knows of Marmols inconsistency and potential to get injured. If i was an opponent i would make those starters throw as many pitches as possible, because when they start to get tired its going to get ugly on the northside

i'm fine with Rios in right...he's an elite elite defender in RF while his metrics suggest hes somehwat above average in CF....i know jones was just an average CF in center when he played there in 08, but in 07 his UZR was a damn good 22.2 ....If he is as in shape as he looks, and given the fact that our CF isn't huge...I actually believe this may be our best defensive OF ...and it will help keep quentin healthy

IIRC he was a reliever his first year in college at Arizona...i remember reading a report saying he was low 90s with his fastball back then I can't say I blame the guy...he's getting older now and if he cant make the royals as an OF, why not try something?

Woods was more dominant - no doubt about it ...maybe the most dominant performance ever....though i think most dominant pitching performance i ever saw was when randy johnson came on in relief to strike out 16 in 7 innings after a rain delay or something like that but the objective of a pitcher is to get outs...and in buehrles perfect game, he was more efficient at doing that than was Wood the craziest thing about buehrle is that his no-no the only guy he allowed to reach base he promptly picked off (and it was Sosa!)

this has been an unbelievably difficult tourney to swallow as a Vandy fan...we get knocked out on a last second shot in the first round, in what appears to be a very winnable bracket....then you watch your biggest rival (a team you beat twice by 9 and 19) make their way into the elite 8 behind a stellar performance by a player (JP Prince) who wanted to transfer to your school, but couldn't because your stupid school doesnt allow mid-year transfers.....in addition bruce pearl just makes everything that much worse too.... dasox24..you are definitely right though, alot of people slept on a UT team that had already proved they could beat Kansas and Kentucky...its gotta be cool for you guys to make it this far, but im not rooting for you on the other side... a Duke Kentucky Final four would be pukeworthy, but also an awesome game to watch...I guess I'd have to root for UK, but that would be very difficult
