  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 15, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) Good deal for both sides. The Marlins now have a 25-year old legitimate ace locked up for the next 4 years at an extremely reasonable rate. And JJ gets long-term security and gets to stay with a team he obviously didn't want to leave. I still can't believe JJ was a 4th round pick. It's scary to think what the Marlins could do with better fan support/payroll flexibility, considering how well they draft and develop. johnson has a ridiculous arm, and was very good last year and a few years ago, but i think the marlins overpaid a bit....10 mil per year is alot for a guy who has only made 50 starts in the last 3 seasons ....its very possible he will be worth every penny (and maybe even more) but i think its more likely that at least 1, if not 2 of those years he will miss significant time due to injury, and 10 million is a fortune for a team like the marlins to be spending for a guy sitting in the trainers room
  2. Campbell is still overpaid, but hes been pretty damn solid this year....at least compared to what he did last year
  3. Bolland is back skating, its hard to believe, but with this team having so much great success I almost forgot about him. He should be a huge boost. Will Sharp move off of center with Bolland coming back? I know injuries are bound to happen, but there are more forwards than spots when everyone is healthy... I could see them moving sharpie back to wing, and moving brouwer to 4th line, but it seems as if they like having his big body out there when Kane is on the ice. Either way someone gets moved off the rotation when bolland gets back....who's it gonna be? Kopecky? Then when Burish gets back i have no idea what they will do....
  4. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) The ref wasn't behind it, actually looking right at the play. I was telling the people I was watching the game with, call me crazy but if the Packers didn't make it on that third down, I'd have gone for it on 4th given we only stopped the Cards once, obviously would be a dumb call given field position and the game is on the line. http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/7423/facemask.png I was a little more pissed about the helmet to helmet hit the play before, which should've been roughing the passer. Oh and not to mention Fitzgerald completely pushing Woodson over in the endzone and then grabbing a TD, where was the interference there. the helmet to helmet was a bit nitpicky (and yes it could have been called), and the facemask probably wouldn't have mattered much, since I believe it occured after Rodgers had already fumbled....but this play by fitzgerald was certainly the most egregious of the blown calls....that was horrendous officiating...not that im gonna complain about calls that go against the packers, but looking at it objectively they refs blew that one horribly
  5. so happy to see the packers lose in heart break fashion
  6. the packers recieves are so good....the cardinals have done a horrendous job tackling this half
  7. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jan 7, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) For me, when it comes playoff time and if the Sox aren't in it, I'm root'n for any AL Central team except the Tigers. I hate the tigers after they embarassed the whole AL in '06. I particularly like the Twins and Royals, but that may also be because I went to school in MN. i tend to not really like any AL team, despite the fact that I will root for them in the playoffs, but thats because I'm a sox fan and want to show stupid NL fans the dominance of our league... i also tend to like just about every NL team, because they are always against the cubs (so especially the cards) outside of those rules i tend to root for teams that have players i like watching...phillies because of utley, have always liked the dodgers and braves.....in the AL i absolutely despise the twins, but its a respectful hatred and I suspect that if they were in the NL they would be my favorite non-sox team. I also like the mariners in the AL
  8. he went 13-0 against the cubs in his career, in 14 starts (15 games)....im fairly sure in the games in which he got no decisions that the cubs still lost.... pretty awesome...ever game he pitched vs. the cubs, his team won
  9. easily the best lefty of this era....right up there with clemens maddux and pedro as the best overall...legit arguement can be made for him being the best of this generation in fact a legit arguement can be made for him being the best lefty ever and among the top 5 or so pitchers to ever play
  10. holliday back to cards for 7 years between 119-120 mil....thats alot of dough
  11. its probably an entirely different debate for a different thread, but i think the key aspect of this entire discussion is actually whether or not you tend to believe the statistician viewpoint that timely, or "clutch" performers, if given enough opportunities, will end up with stats in those situations very near their career averages. It is something I tend to believe, and i tend to believe that javys bad outings have occured at inopportune times, and I don't tend to think that it has something to do with "confidence" or "lack of kahunas" or something of that sort
  12. this would be a great move for the yankees....cabrera is useless now that they have granderson, and vazquez is at worst a slightly above average league pitcher his shortcomings in crunch time have been greatly exaggerated on this site since 2006.....he had a brutal final 3 starts in 2008, but 8 of his 9 starts before that were QS (and you can't tell me games in august and september don't matter), and the 1 that wasn't was 7 IP 4 ER.... When games "mattered" in 2006, he put up a 3.41 ERA in August, and a 3.82 ERA in September (with 4 out of 5 september starts having 10+ K's) Then last year he brought his team back into legitimacy in the NL east and wild card with a year that was so underappreciated around baseball...he was probably a top 3 or 5 starter in the NL last year ..... a 1.03 WHIP and 238 Ks
  13. comparing playoffs from one decade to the next isn't fair, given that before 1995 only 2 teams from each league made the playoffs instead of 4

    What's your OCD?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 02:01 AM) All the dollar bills in my wallet are arranged with the largest ones in the back, all with the presidents front and up. Whenever I had a cash register all my bills would be in the register like this too. no 10s or 100s in your pocket, i take it
  15. i had no idea henry went to WVU...congrats rich rod....Chris Henry and Pacman on the same team? guy places alot of emphasis on character
  16. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) Bouquets of roses for an under-achieving .230 hitter for us, yet I am the one who is jaded. Don't get me wrong, I included Joe on this list, I recognize him as one of the greatest 3B defenders for a good stretch in the mid-90's. The Sox kept sticking with him, strikeout after strikeout. I can accept the lovefest in Soxdom for Rowand and now Crede will never go away, but I actually missed Rowand. So I assume that all of you think it was right to ditch his teammates in the playoffs? Didn't hear any peeps about that. i liked crede as a person....but i agree with you in some regards...by far the most overrated player of the decade IMO
  17. pierre beckham Quentin Konerko AJ Rios Teahen Ramirez Jones/Kotsay but more ideally... pierre Beckham Quentin Thome Konerko AJ Rios Teahen Ramirez
  18. i would never say he deserved it, because clearly the court of law never ruled death penalty in any of his legal issues, and nor should they have... it is however, probably the least surprising player this could have happened to in the NFL
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 03:28 AM) I admire Baltimore's competitiveness, but that is alot of cash for Mike Gonzalez. even more ridiculous was the 2 year 20 million dollar contract the tribe signed for kerry wood last year
  20. what i dont get is why we dont go back after thome ....only 14 teams could possibly be interested in him for an entire year... add in the fact that he likely won't go play for a team not likely to compete, and throws the indians, royals, orioles, a's, blue jays (especially - halladay) out of the mix..there just can't be a whole lot of interest in him at this point, and even if there is he can't be very expensive... at any rate...i guess i could be ok with Jones there, as I think there as at least the potential for a .800 OPS there. Its entirely possible that by the end of the season that spot will belong to Tyler Flowers (even though its just as possible that Flowers should be Catching with AJ DHing)
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) Its so hard to pick the worst, but I have several more than 10 who deserve a mention: McKay Christensen Andy Gonzalez Ken Hill Jack Egbert Wes Whisler Arnie Munoz Armando Rios Todd Ritchie Julio Ramirez Jeff Bajenaro Josh Stewart Dewon Day Mike Myers Jose Paniagua Brent Lillibridge Some pretty bad players right there. I would have put Toby Hall on the list, but I like guys who make shaving cream pies. man remember jeff bajenaru vs. bobby jenks discussions back in 2005....some people were irate that bajenaru wasn't getting a shot over jenks....whats funny is they had a somewhat legit arguement .....good thing the baseball people with the sox were brighter than those here
  22. translation: I want to play Vizquel and Kotsay as much as possible...don't get me a real hitter
  23. kelly dransfeldt, wilson valdez, armando rios, rick white, brett prinz, ryan bukvich,
  24. Carlos Lee was better for longer than Rowand, but I guess rowand got the nod for being on the 05 team.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) That game last night sure was fun to watch. Hossa's goal might have been the best one I've seen scored by the Hawks in the last 20 years. I think that took greater ability than Toews' goal against the 'Lanche a few years ago... Zhamnov had some sweet dekes when he was here, he'd come in from the side and with one hand put the puck around the goaltender, but I think Hossa catching the puck, dropping it in front of him and slapping it out of midair past a well-positioned goaltender (while moving) was the most difficult move I have yet to see. i've been only really watching hockey for two years, so my knowledge is fairly limited, but i'm so impressed with Hossa patience....his presence of mind on the ice is remarkable...the gap between he and Havlat is bigger than I realized this offseason...Havlat seemed more of an opportunist, who benefited from being around guys like kane sharp and toews, but Hossa looks like the type of player who just makes everyone around him better.
