Sox Underdogs Again, Just What They Needed
I think the thread makes a ton of sense. This will put more pressure on ownership to deliver a more competitive product on the field. 1. Theo coming in with one of the largest contracts ever for a general manager. Rickett is very intrigued by sabermetrics and would imagine Theo has all the ability to make any moves he wants with the club. I bet the rumors of a trimmed down payroll are false. The cubs are in a mess right now, but a general manager with money who knows where to spend( draft picks and internationally) can turn around a franchise in a hurry. I would expect the Cubs to be very good in three years or less. 2. Consequently, the White Sox better get there act together. I know they only compete with the Cubs on the field six games a year. But, financially they compete with the Cubs everyday. They compete with them for memorabilia sales, eyes balls watching the television, ears listening to the radio, and most importantly asses in the seats. To say how well the Cubs do does not effect the White Sox is very narrow minded. 3. So what can they do. They can start investing in high draft picks, and start building more in Latin America. For once, I would like a Top Prospect to become a superstar. The only guy that maybe can do that is Dayan Viciedo.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
My problem with the hire is not Ventura, but the process that Kenny took to this job. Usually, in organization has interviews with other canidates. It seems to me that Kenny just decided by conversations over the years that he was the right man for the job. What happend to sitting down talking three or four different guys and seeing which one fits you philosophy best? I think Ventura could be good just from the standpoint that he can be one of the guys. My only wonder is if he would get rolled over by a player who has a dominant personality. I think for developing players he can do a very good job. Also, it is more apparent that before Ozzie ever left that Ventura would be the next manager for the White Sox. I just do not like how the White Sox go about there business sometimes. Also, for god sakes put some money into your farm system starting with Latin America and ending with paying more money for draft picks. Maybe you would not have as many prospect flops.

Offseason Plans
You have to think of what the team can get back too. Buehrle is a free agent who is most likely to retire before playing for another team. Danks and Quentin can gain the whitesox some quality prospects as they come with first round draft picks the following year. Also, it seems like both guys are determined to hit the open market so the chances of us in reality signing them are slim to none. The White Sox have always been lets rebuild on the fly while competing for championships. At least if they sign Buehrle they can tell the fan base they have a chance. I would not be opposed to trading somebody like Alexi as he going to get really expensive in the last few years of his contract. Also, there might be a chance he is older than what he said coming into the league. Again, it is all about trade solid assets for quality youth players while trying to compete at the same time.

Offseason Plans
So a couple of things that I think should happen our. 1. Resign Buehrle: The White Sox are not looking good for the future so they better keep one of the guys that is a fan favorite. Plus, he is still a quality pitcher. I think a 3-30 million dollar is appropriate. 2. Trade Danks and Quentin: I know this would be a dramatic change for the White Sox. It is clear both guys want to hit the open market and I don't think we are going to be able phony up the cash to keep them around for the long term. I think we could get quality prospects for return since a team would get there production for one year and draft pick compensation if they sign elsewhere. 3. Clear room for the kids to play. I mean let Flowers and AJ split time behind the plate. Viciedo should have a starting spot. I am not a huge Morel fan as his plate dicipline is just terrible but getting a third baseman in the open for cheap is pretty much impossible. Also, would like to see Lasting Milledge get some playing time with the White Sox as he put up decent numbers in Triple A this year and was once a prize prospect. 4. Clearly, starting pitching is something that will give the White Sox an ulcer over the offseason. I think maybe we can stockpile a few arms with some trade. 5. FIRE GREG WALKER. I know its not all his fault, but clearly the guy didnt do a great job the last few seasons with the White Sox. Every young hitter that comes up does well to begin with than struggles. Thank you for listening. I appreciate any feedback. Go Sox!

Adam Dunn Theme Song
Went to the game last night. Can anybody tell me the theme song that play when he goes to bat? Thanks.
-
Carlos Quentin
Stop trying to sell me car insurance.
-
Juan Uribe
On a side note, Greg Walker must be removed as hitting coach.
-
Juan Uribe
I was just wondering if anybody likes seeing Juan Uribe do well in World Series? He was my favorite player when he was with the White Sox. I know that is a little weird. I still remember the two unbelievable plays to end the World Series. I believe one of the overlooked keys to the 2005 team was the strong play by the left side of the infield that year. Also, we need to get rid of Greg Walker.

Would you rather
I was thinking that even though we probably lost the division and will not make the playoffs, how much I like this roster. So, I know we are going to make changes because of payroll issues, but if you could would you like the White Sox to comeback with the same exact roster.

AGon discussion, et. al.
Just for some fun lets throw out another trade possibility. Sox Get Howie Kendrick Gary Matthews Adrian Gonzalez Cash Angels Get Alexi Konerko Daylan Viciedo Padres Get Top Propect from Angels Maybe two Hudson Jordan Danks
-
AGon discussion, et. al.
There is no way this would be that easy for the White Sox. Some questions that may come up like Why would the Angels want to pickup Konerko's salary and trade away prospects when they are looking for ways to keep their own guys? The only way they do this is if they lose some salary in the process. Sox Get: Gary Matthews Jr. Adrian Gonzalez Cash from Angels Padres Get: Anahiem Top Prospect Hudson and Flowers Anahiem: Shed Gary Matthews Jr Contract Paul Konerko This would mean that we would be gaining about 19 million in salary for this year. We would be shedding Konerko's contract. Plus, the angels throw in about 3 million for the next 2 seasons.

Adrian Gonzalez
Wow! I did not know this post would blow up. I just want to say I started this thread as an idea. NO KNOWLEDGE OF ANYTHING.. Its just an idea. Its not even a rumor. A couple things to keep in mind. 1. Alexi would be a key part of this deal in my mind. San Diego has a huge latin market and Alexi would fit right in. Also, you have to give them a proven major leaguer to justify the deal. 2. People who say this would ruin our farm system. You are totally correct. But, lets think back to two years ago when all of these guys in the current trade were not even with the White Sox. Farm systems can built quickly and only are speculative. Plus, If we did get Gonzalez we would most definitely have a replacement for Konerko when his contract up. You make the trade thinking the guy will be part of your organization for the next 6 years not 2. 3. Petco is a huge park. The Cell is a small park. He would hit 45 homers here. 4. We would be instantly favorites for the division and be in the top 3 most likely to win it all. 5. Bringing a player like Adrian to the Cell would certainly make wanting to stay here a priority for John Danks and Carlos Quentin. Both have expressed willingness to talk about extensions this offseason.

Adrian Gonzalez
I read in Rob Neyer's blog about the likely hood of Adrian Gonzalez being traded this offseason is becoming more of a reality. http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...nzalez-on-block I know I like to dream, but its the offseason. Here are Gonzalez's stats last year. SEASON TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2008 SD 162 616 103 172 32 1 36 119 74 142 0 0 .279 .361 .510 .871 2009 SD 160 552 90 153 27 2 40 99 119 109 1 1 .277 .407 .55 .958 The man is a beast going into his prime. Also, he is rather cheap at this point making about 10.5 million( total) in the last 2 years of his contract. This all concludes to that it will take an arm and a leg to get him. But, he provides something we need which is a left handed power hitting slugger. This trade would be much like the Prince Fielder rumor that was thrown around. Package would start with Alexi, Hudson, and Flowers. This would be enticing to them since it would provide three quality players they could plug in on the cheap. Problem is this really depletes are farm system. Plus, it would mean we would have insert Jayson Nix into the starting role. I am a nix fan, but some of you would rather him be off the roster. The Lineup would look alot like this: Pods( if resigned) or Jordan Danks Beckham Quentin Gonzalez Konerko Piezenski Rios Teahen Nix I think the lineup would be pretty nasty. Again, our farm would take a beating and we would be in a must win now situation. Also, I have my doubts that San Diego would accept that package. Just wondering what some of you think. Also, I know people will be skeptical, but understand I am just throwing suggestion out there.

Brewers a Good Match
If we are doing just pure speculation and fun. How about Poreada and Dotel for Brandon Wood.

Ben Sheets Speculation
http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index...%3dolney_buster In the article, he talks about the money given to the likes of Carlos Silva and Jarrod Washburn in the past couple of years. Ben Sheets this winter will be lucky to receive a two year,20 million dollar deal. This a little crazy? He has never posted an ERA over 4 and last year pitched 200 innings. I realize that he is an injury risk and does cost us a draft pick. But, if Cabrera signs with a team before June than it can almost be a wash. Plus, it is not like we have a high draft pick this year anyways. He would fit nicely into are rotation making it the best in the division with Buehrle, Sheets,Danks,Floyd and Colon. That would be a fantastic rotation turning a weakness into a strength. Also, this would allow other guys to get full development down in the minors especially Aaron Poreda. This would allow Clayton Richard to develop out of the bullpen last year where he was very effective. It would only cost the White Sox 3 years for 30 million dollars. Plus, Our rotation would be set for the next 3 years except for the fifth stater spot which would provide the Whitesox with some stability. I know you have to come up with the cash and it seems people are reluctant to do that these days, but I have a feeling next winter Ben Sheets could have gotten 13-15 million per season.

Some Trade Possibilities
Bobby Jenks: 1) Mets- They are the team obviously that needs bullpen help the most as Billy Wagner is no longer around and the backend of the pen being skeptical. Problem deal with the Mets is they have so many options that get a decent return is very unlikely. The only way Jenks goes to Mets if Dye is in the deal as this would fulfill two needs with one deal. Fernando Martinez is probably not in the deal as Minaya realizes he could be a Top 10 prospect in the game. 2) Diamondbacks- I haven’t anything about Jenks going to the Diamondbacks but it would make some sense as they are looking for a closer who can replace both Brandon Lyon and Juan Cruz who are likely headed elsewhere. Jenks would be a low-cost option (for a closer) and they have some prospects that could intrigue Kenny Williams. Remember just last year the Diamondbacks and Whitesox were trading partners where the Whitesox ended up with Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter. 3) Brewers- Again just speculation that could make some sense as the Brewers had a terrible pen last year and they lost SalomanTorres to retirement. They are another organization that usually has talent. Williams and the Brewers have a history as the sox traded Carlos Lee for Scott Podsednik and Luis Visciano a few years back. 4) Giants- Brian Wilson did not have the year many people thought he would have had with his great stuff. He could be used better as a middle reliever. The Giants will be playing more close games, as they want to win with pitching and defense. A trade around Jenks and Dye would fulfill two needs for the Giants and bring them into contention in the NL West. The Giants scored the fewest runs in the National League last year so in upgrade in the offense is necessary. A package including Jonathan Sanchez could entice Willams pull the trigger. 5) Cardinals- A swap of Ankiel and prospects for Bobby Jenks could make some sense as the Cardinals could use a closer and the whitesox have been in need of a centerfielder since Aaron Rowand. Ankiel has the potential to hit 30 homers and play great outfield. Also, Colby Rasmus could be coming up rather soon and I believe he plays centerfield if I am not mistaken. Jermaine Dye- Man I would hate to trade this man as has been so productive in a Whitesox uniform. But, it makes sense as he is a 35-year-old outfielder who has one year left on his contract. 1) Mets- This scenario has been entertained in other threads and described above. 2) Reds- The thought of Homer Bailey for Jermaine Dye trade makes me happy as Bailey has worn out his welcome in Cincinnati. Just a year ago, He was known to have a huge upside with a plus fastball. 3) Devil Rays- This team has six starting pitchers and only five spots which means somebody is the odd man out. Edwin Jackson and a low level prospect would make some sense in this situation. Orlando Carbrera- I am going to be upset if returns especially since Edgar Renteria got a 2 year 18.5 million dollar deal from the Giants. I certainly don’t think we would keep Cabrera if he does decide to accept arbitration. 1) Dodgers- They could lose out on Rafeal Furcal. Ned Coletti loves short term contracts. I don’t think we would get much for Cabrera so to just diminish his value in the future we trade him for a bucket of balls and we pay a portion of Cabreras contract with the money Ozzie has paid into to the swear jar last season.

Pre Trade Vazquez Discussion
1) This could have been leaked by Atlanta to speed up the Peavy deal and try to use the Sox as leverage. 2) The trade I think would be great if Schafer+ Gonzalex for Javy and Jenks. This would cut down on cost by 12 million dollars while building for the future.

Tidbits from Gammons
• Ken Williams is one of the winter's most significant wheelers and dealers. He is marketing Javier Vazquez, Bobby Jenks, Jermaine Dye and others as he tries to overhaul the White Sox. The Mets are afraid of the red flag on Jenks, whose strikeout rate has dropped precipitously from 50 in 39 1/3 innings in 2005 to 38 in 61 2/3 innings this past season. And although GM Omar Minaya checked in on Sabathia, it does not mean the Mets will get into a bidding war with the Yankees for the 2007 AL Cy Young Award winner. • Scouts in Arizona for the Arizona Fall League and the White Sox's minor league people are convinced that Gordon Beckham, the eighth pick in the MLB draft this past June, will be Chicago's everyday second baseman by June. I find both being very telling of the whitesox offseason plans as getting everyday centerfield rather than a middle infielder seems to be a priority to williams. Beckham seems to a prospect that is already polished in many ways and will be a major impact in August and September. Swisher deal in my opinion reveals that Williams has no intentions on trading Dye as he only has one year on his contract and Swisher would have been a low cost replacement in right field. Bobby Jenks on the other hand may be dealt as Kenny doesnt believe in paying big money to closers. I could see him spread the wealth elsewhere along with getting prospects back in order to make the whitesox younger. Jenks could be a centerpiece for a trade involving the Giants. Javier may interest some teams as he reliable and could entice some suitors with his talent level. Maybe, if the Braves pull out of the Peavy sweepstakes they could come knocking on Kenny's door.

NO Trade Clause
Does anyone find it interesting that the no trade clause was such a big deal for mark buehrle but when it came to linebrink they gave him one too. I think its pretty rediculous.

Andruw Jones
I just want to know why no one is talking about Kenny Williams going after Jones. The market is down for him at this point since he didnt have a very good year for his standards. He is probably going to get less money than Tori Hunter. He is two years younger than Hunter. He had the most put outs for a centerfielder last year. He hits for almost 100 rbis every year accept last year. The only thing holding us back is Scott Boras. Hunter would be a bad value cause you are buying him at his peak. People last year we speculating that Jones could have gone for 20 million this offseason. Now you can buy him for the reasonable 5-80 million dollar range. You are done paying him at the age of 35. He would fill the gap of cf. Just for discussion. Wondering if there are any flaws to my reasoning.

Milledge
I love Lasting Milledge. But, if the trade is with the mets, thats all we are going to get. Asking anything more would be unrealistic. Fact, is teams realize that prospects are more important everyday since the rise of players. This will probably level out this year where the market will finally decrease. In 09 prices will also be going down considerably just because of the talent and backloading of contracts by major league clubs. Sorry about that tangent. Point is if we get one premium prospect for buehrle i will be happy. Asking anything more would be wanting way too much. Just thought i would put that out there. I know its no knew information. Just some food for thought.

Midseason Chip
In my opinion is Joe Crede. We probably can get the most value for him and we have Josh Fields to replace him if he is playing good an AAA.

Did anyone catch this
Daily Herald did an article explaining the recent trade. They obviously took qoutes from kenny and he said at one " We are expecting to do another move very soon and it wont be to the delight of much fan fair". To be honest thats not exactly it but close... I hope its not tradign away MB

Angels
They have swung and missed twice and i think they need some starting pitching. how about howie kendrik, and brandon wood for uribe, iguchi and garland. Sounds like a deal.

Steve Phillips....c'mon now
YOu guys are acting like idiots. CMon its barry bonds. He still is in OPS machine and would hit 35 homers in our park. If we got him we would once again be the favorite to win this year. Not to mention that Boston is loading up and the yanks always have a great lineup. YOu honestly can tell me that he would not improve our team drastically over anyone else.
