Again, there is absolutely no good reason why the Sox should let anybody outbid them for Harper. None whatsoever.

Then tell us exactly what did happen.

And there's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't have landed both. They certainly could have afforded to invest $650M over the next 10 years for two potential HOF talents both just entering their primes. And they should have been willing to give both a 4 or 5 year opt out too. This organization is completely incompetent.
