All depends on the return. What was the return on the 8 times they didn't give up much. Just because 2 panned out from other teams doesn't mean the Sox didn't do well overall. Other trade netted Giolito, Lopez and Dunning. Another got Jimenez and Cease. If you are going to pick and choose the ones where the other team got a good player, look at the ones where the Sox did.

This is true. However we all know the Sox will never spend like the Dodgers. The Sox will have a good rotation going 6 deep with hopefully Stiever waiting in the wings as well. They will not be in the market for an expensive FA starter. It's not their history to sign one, which I agree with. I also dont think it will be the priority. I think RF will be.
