  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:17 PM) There definitely appears to be a plan. Yep, the Chris Sale plan to MLB bullpen in late July-early August.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 09:24 AM) Eddy! So glad to see him turn it around. Yeah, such a good guy. It's impossible not to root for him.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 4, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) Anyone else watching? 5 years after launch, about to navigate Jupiter. Watching online. I love watching these type of things. The NASA channel on dish is fun to watch during missions.

    Music and more Music

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) I waited all night for November Rain and it was the only song I was disappointed in. Piano sounded tinty, seemed like Axel forgot lines, and no Slash solo. Maybe just me. I had the exact same thought! That was the only song that was disappointing. I even liked the Pink Floyd and Who covers. I thought the piano and guitar for the instrumental Layla was really good though.
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 09:04 PM) . I agree with you that the Sox need those players. I think they can get by with Shuck, at least for a while They have only 2 dependable late inning relievers. They have 2 5th starters, but only when those 2 pitch their best. A starter and late inning reliever cost a ton at the deadline. And that is if Hahn knew what he was doing. The fault though is the farm...for all the ballyhoo about how good they are with pitching, where is it? We haven't seen a pitcher out of them since Sale or Nate Jones. Can't even pull an 8th inning guy or dependable 5th starter. And the Sox have maybe 1 A prospect in the whole system (this draft excluded) so they have to load up 3 or 4 of their Bs for a good player, and they really don't have many Bs. I thought Petricka and Putnam were doing respectable work.
  6. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:58 PM) Oh please. I've never said that. I never pound the table for $200 million dollar players. You're just in an overreacting mode to my posts now. No I'm not. I'm just commenting on your statement of "wanting to after the big ones" and them being too cheap. They have been spending right up to the limit the last few years and haven't been cheap which I think is the right way to go. your're right though the 1 billion was a little over the top.
  7. QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 25, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) What does a pitching win measure well? Nothing. Human or otherwise, a pitching win is meaningless. They definitely mean less than they used to. Pitchers used to pitch to win. Now they pitch to build their stats and I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way. Pitchers would maybe give up a few runs in games with leads in an attempt to extend games and save the bullpen. They wanted the win giving up the run and stats didn't matter. More and more I see the pitchers continuing to throw stressful pitches with leads just to try to make sure they can get as many outs in as few batters as possible.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ May 25, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) And I'm not saying that wins is some major factor and has huge significance. I think it is one piece of information that should be fit in when evaluating a pitcher. Comparing his win total to other pitchers on his staff with their stats may reveal subjective information. How much you want to value motivation, desire, etc is up to you. But totally dismissing wins dismisses how well a player can get his team playing behind and for him. Unlike most other sports, baseball is the only sport where wins are tracked so publicly for an individual player. Football comes kind of close, but nothing like baseball. Again, it isn't a huge factor, but I believe it shouldn't be overlooked or automatically dismissed. Dang, two!
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) They still matter to me. Last I looked the teams with the most wins in the regular season advance to the postseason and the team with the most wins in the post-season wins the series. While I agree wins aren't the #1 factor, I actually find it to be an underrated stat, as I view it as being a pitcher who goes deeper into games tends to give themselves more opportunities to win games, etc (controls more of their destiny and there is value of that to an individual). That isn't to say it is the only factor but I think too easily it is ignored because someone's WAR is better. Hey, someone who agrees with me or are you just mocking me.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) It was either Marisnick who is hitting .176 on the year, Rasmus who has a SSS being bad against Robertson or their back up catcher. I think Rasmus was the right move just because he was the best chance to run into one. Yeah, I guess. There really weren't many good options there. You could probably make a case for any of them. In that situation the HR has the best chance to get the run so why not.
  11. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:33 PM) Any ideas? As far as position players I'd like to see them add a centerfielder that can hit and a good hitting first baseman who plays good defense so Abreu can DH. Unless Morneau shows he still has something left in the tank. I'd really like them to picjk up a couple of solid relievers. Don't know if all of this is possible though. I was just going with getting the original starters (Cabrera and Jackson) back and adding Morneau.
  12. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:30 PM) Rasmus now 0-15 against Robertson? Damn Really? Why would Hinch pinch hit him against Robertson? Maybe it's the "he was due" philosophy.
  13. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:30 PM) None of us know what is really going on behind the scenes. We can only go by what we observe. But we're all entitled to our opinions, including you and SouthSideSale. Correct. Although some of us (meaning some posters) do have some behind the scenes information. I guess when I express an opinion on anything I like to base them on at least some direct information.
  14. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) The Sox are flawed but so are the rest of the teams. You win some and you lose some. Reinforcements are on the way. Yes, they could have 3 new position players soon after the all star break.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:12 PM) What's the complete picture then? I see a team that year in year makes dumb mistakes (different players) and the manager just sits there and does nothing about from what I can tell and have read. As SSF pointed out it took the president coming down to try and settle things not Robin. Sure would've been nice to see Eaton getting his ass chewed or Robin at least talking to him after his two bonehead mistakes. Just from afar that's what it appears like. Sorry for being a fan who lives far away with no connections to this team. All I can see is what's on tv and stuff I can read. It does the team no good to have the manager "chew a guy's ass" in public. I have no doubt it will be discussed after the game. If you are looking for a dugout fight, get ona guy's case when he is pissed he just screwed up and he knows it. Ventura should have let KW handle the LaRoche case. As soon as the manager takes sides in a clubhouse he loses have the clubhouse and it makes it difficult to manage the team. Everyone can hate KW, he doesn't deal with the players on a daily basis. Making judgments based on no information usually doesn't lead to the right conclusions. There are many reasons why the team can be playing the way they are. Making judgments based on absolutely no information only conjecture is fine if you want, my opinion is that it's not a good way to judge what's really going on.
  16. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:11 PM) Who would you people say is the smartest baseball player on the team... maybe Saladino? So far Anderson has shown some pretty good baseball IQ. He may be an overly aggressive hitter and not walk much but he really seems to understand the game as it goes along.
  17. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 06:00 PM) Ah here we go with the you're not in the clubhouse so don't have an opinion. It just appears that way. These guys continue to make stupid mistake after stupid mistake and there's no consequences. What's that got to do with a country club atmosphere? Maybe they are just dumb players if they continually make the same mistakes. You are making far too many assumptions without the complete picture.
  18. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) I just answered your post about LaRoche. You brought up Laroche as an example to another poster who said it was like a country club. My point was that it took the GM to come in and settle a clubhouse issue. Got it. I though it was KW who did it and had the argument with Sale.
  19. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) It absolutely has a country club feel to it. Ah, so you're the one in the clubhouse who knew it. I knew someone was the insider.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) I don't know, I'm not there. You're the one who said LaRoche thought it was. KW was the one who put a stop on LaRoche bringing his kid around everyday and having him on the field during drills though. Sorry, I was commenting on the post that this club has too much of a country club atmosphere. Not sure what your post was about then.
  21. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) Until KW finally stepped in. So he made it a non-country club atmosphere then but has since decided to allow it to be a country club again?
  22. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) It really is. I wanted them to get one of the top ones. Hell the As are cheap but seemingly find a way to get a top one all the time. I'm sure you would like them to spend 1 billion on the MLB roster too. The last couple of years the have spent more than many teams and some of them are seeming to be progressing well.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2016 -> 09:51 PM) It's funny the "low budget" A's are the ones who shelled out money (originally) for Cespedes, Michael Ynoa and now Lazarito. Because it's cheaper to bet on these prospects than sign real players. Hence, the restrictions of the low budgets.
  24. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 04:21 PM) No accountability so it's a country club feel. That is what LaRoche though too.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) He was so awful last night. Made Davidson sound like an incredible player. He is hitting .500.
