QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 11:49 PM) Biggio has really gotten f***ed by all this steroid era hoopla. I know why Palmerio and Rose aren't in the hall, but 3,000 hits and doing it the way Biggio did should have been first ballot status. And then he gets forgotten about the next year because it was such a stacked class. And things don't get any easier next either with Randy, Pedro, Smoltz, and Sheffield being added to the list. Whats Sheffield's status with PED suspicion? Sheffield will also not get the benefit of the doubt due to his personality. He made Bonds look like Konerko.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 04:37 AM) Seems kind of pointless, tbh. I don't think anyone disapproves of the job Hahn's done. Trading established MLB pitching for prospects can lead to disaster. I wouldn't say disapprove but it's definitely risky. If these guys don't play well, you can really set a team back.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) Almost all closely held corps have a right of first refusal. My understanding is that JR is the only one in the group that has this option even though he is not the majority shareholder. I'm not a business guy so I'm not sure if that is common or not.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) [/b] I believe I remember hearing that is where he started, but as partners have wanted out over the years, he has bought up many other shares of the team. Can anyone confirm or deny? JR has the option to buy out anybody before they sell the shares to someone else. He has slowly increased his holding in the group.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) DC and Denver have it better than us out of the cities I travel to extensively. Our transit system is old and very one-dimensional. Back in the day the green line west and the El south were the two earliest lines on the city transit system, and both havent expanded since the early 1900's. In a city with such horrible traffic and road conditions they should invest in a more uni-directional transit system while eliminating the dual station format downtown. While at the same time giving us high speed options to nearby cities like St Louis, Detroit and Minneapolis. I envision a system where there is a Hub OUTSIDE of Chicago where multiple lines can converge and allow passengers to travel between suburbs without having to go back into the city. At least in my perfect world. The tube in Boston is a much more user friendly system than Chicago's.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) So some performance enhancing drugs are OK, just as long as they weren't too strong? When voting for the HOF, yes. Otherwise as I said nobody would go in. This is just my opinion, because andro really isn't a performance enhancer and amphetamines just helped you focus a little more.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) Which is why it's stupid that the voters are trying to play judge jury executioner with all the PEDs. I disagree. The amphetamines and andro do not have the same effect as anabolic steroids. If you want to go with the strcit route than nobody should be in the HOF including Thomas. I will wager that he used amphetamines at one point or another. It's best to separate the steroids from the others as that is where the difference was made. Bonds, Sosa and McGwire did not hit those HR's on the back of amphetamines. Edit: What Jake said.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Jan 8, 2014 -> 07:49 AM) that's...... fine, but it doesn't refute anything I said androstenedione is a PED, has always been, same with amphetamines they weren't always banned substances but that isn't what was said what was said was "piazza never used PEDs", which is 100% false My point was, if you put amphetamines and andro in the same category as anabolic steroids than not only did Piazza use PEDs but almost everyone did.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) it's in his book for cryin out loud http://metsblog.com/news/mike-piazza/mike-...-upcoming-book/ he also admits to using amphetamines, another PED dude was doing everything in his power to boost his game 80-90% of all players before the drug testing started used amphetamines. It was readily available in the coffee in every clubhouse.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) Except for the fact they already blew a ton of money on the last empty parking garage. That's government and politics. Usually can't get out of their own way. I know that part of the city they do not want empty run down buildings so it doesn't surprise me that they would do something like this. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) A whole bunch of people threw boiling water into the air to watch it freeze and burned themselves. Even my 12 year old boy got it right when he tried. I weep for humanity. This is why I don't trust people to get anything right,.

Rose (Write-In) I wonder if it's the drug problems keeping Raines out.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) Yeah, I get that, but for me that stands out as the time that the numbers on the offensive side really changed. The rookie HR record was just destroyed at that point. 40HRs became the new 25. Agreed. But if you remember from the Canseco book, PEDs had nothing to do with the record. Canseco introduced McGwire to PEDs after all that occurred, after he was in the MLB.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 08:02 AM) Not player movement but no other catch-all. This is another case where the city will make money on the taxes from parking, tickets, concession and since it's soccer fines from the police arresting all of the people fighting in the stands. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) Check this article out: http://www.sfgate.com/sports/kroichick/art...ids-2637503.php Tom House says he was doing it in the 70's The reason is wasn't as effective was that they didn't lift weights back then. He though it would increase endurance and probably did a little. However, without the added workouts the PEDs wouldn't have the same effect.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) For me it really seemed to happen with the 1987 rookie race. What happened that year blew away everything that had happened before it in all MLB history. While Canseco and few were using then, it really wasn't until the early to mid-90's that it became wide spread. In the mid-80's most players were just beginning to lift weights. That is why the actucal time is blurred.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) Pounding Noles. Quite a wonderful sight. Quickly raising the post count.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 6, 2014 -> 07:39 PM) Hot water freezes quicker that cold water. Fact. Yes. The kids just did an experiment. Took hot water and threw it in the air and it evaporated before it hit the ground. Did the same with cold and some made it to the ground.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) Just kidding? Kids are home from school today and tomorrow. Killing my Holiday break. (alliteration at it's best)

QUOTE (Spod=Ratings @ Jan 5, 2014 -> 06:55 PM) It's sad Bears fans only postseason excitement is rooting against packers. Seems like a very Cub thing to do... What's wrong with rooting against a team? Personally, I had money on them and was rooting for them.

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 5, 2014 -> 06:34 PM) Oops. Not sure how I missed that. He mentioned after they came back from commercial on a replay, not when it happened.
-
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jan 5, 2014 -> 06:23 PM) Refs miss holding on virtually every play, but I don't understand how buck and aikman cann see the Rodgers replay twice and not point out the obvious hold on the play that allowed Rodgers to escape. It has to be an nfl mandate. Not when jerseys are being pulled and grabbing Smiths arm when he was chasing Rogers. You can't miss those. I've got money on the Packers but this is awful.
-
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 5, 2014 -> 06:04 PM) Works for me although Tanaka may end being too pricey for good old uncle jerry. Ervin Santana or Garza would be fine with me if it meant upgrading the offense with Castro and Altuve. Not pricey but too many years that's for sure.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 5, 2014 -> 06:03 PM) Wow, how could you not call a holding on that play? It's the only reason Rodgers didn't get sacked. They almost ripped the jersey off that 49er.
