    Soxtalk = BANNED

    Okay ... now here's my question. Why would a school block Soxtalk?
  2. I read a couple of pages of that Philly thread and all I can say is ... pass me whatever they're smokin'.
  3. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 11:00 AM) Yeah, we get it, republicans are the best, most often simply because they're republican. yawwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I'd put like this. Republicans are best because they're not Democrats.
  4. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) Why? Because I have absolutely zero interest in seeing it.
  5. My elixer of horrors is gin. No real story to go with other than I just drank too much of it after a few beers. The hangover the next day the cause of the only time I have ever missed a day of work due to alcohol. Fortunately, I was working a temporary contruction job to fill in between jobs with my regular crew. I called the guy I was working for and told him I wasn't coming due to a hangover. He said, "Okay. See ya tomorrow." Edit: I've tried gin one time since then (the first incident happened about 25 years ago) and it tasted like paint thinner smells to me.
  6. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:28 AM) Critics. And a lot of people actually. It's grossed over 50 million dollars in revenue in the last seven weeks and is still in fewer theaters than the average wide release movie. But I've only seen one movie on the whole list. That was Narnia. I haven't seen any of them, but Brokeback would be the last movie I'd pay to see.
  7. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) I'm surprised Good Night and Good Luck got in instead of Syriana. I could see best picture going two ways. If Hollywood wants to make a statement, it's going to be "Luck." If Hollywood makes the popular pick, it'll be "Brokeback." Popular with who?
  8. I'm pretty much a beer guy. Very occasionally I'll have a rum & Coke, Bailey's on the rocks or tequila as a shot or in a margarita.
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:34 AM) I'm going to press my luck and go for 5. As an out of towner, they could paint those seats pink, and I'd love to be able to sit in them a couple dozen times a summer, like I use to. Damn. You're a glutton for punishment and you're also making it tough on me. Yes, I agree ... dammit.
  10. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 06:33 AM) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Damn, YAS, this is like the 4th time already this year we agreed on something. You sure are getting smarter I know. It's been a bad month.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:08 AM) Everytime I see an article like this I think one thing. They are all missing the Sox current advertising thrust. The Sox are trying to capture the next generation of fans. So many of their promotions, giveaways, and such are aimed at kids under their teens. They have the White Sox acadamies, Kid's Days, Southpaw, and the Cubs have what? The Sox know you can't change the fandom of the great majority of fans who have hit their teens and beyond, but they are doing an incredible job of trying to get the fans who are still impressionable. Of course there isn't a columnist in town who has caught on to this... ... or, more likely, one that will acknowledge it.
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 07:15 AM) s***. No way. What happened to later in the summer? I also thought one the main suggestions was not to have it during the typical school year. So, they choose finals week. :headshake
  13. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) Naughty naughty Neocons. Who knew when Bush was talking about "Faith based initiatives" he really meant "Feith based initiatives"? Not bad. Not bad at all.
  14. I wanted to comment that my "take responsibilities for actions" remark was said "tongue in cheek". I just felt that is wasn't quite sarcastic enough to warrant green text.
  15. I knew God was on our side.
  16. I think this sums it up, perfectly. I totally agree with this next remark. How could they not take advantage of the skyline is beyond me: Next quote is very true also. The difference was so great it shocked me.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) I do believe that was a WGN game. It was. It was one of the selected few I was able to watch.
  18. QUOTE(Beltin'Bill @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) I am not so sure about that. It seems that all of Ozzie's pointed comments are done with more of a purpose than we realize (such as comments about Anderson's defense a couple months ago). I saw what he said about Munoz' heart and I interpreted it as Munoz being the guy Guillen wants to step up and win the job outright. The time to worry about a player is when Guillen starts to rave about him. That is usually followed up with a trade out of town. Good post. As I was reading this thread, the same thought came to me. Ozzie was 'motivating' with that comment. We'll see if Arnie can step up and meet the challenge.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) I still don't like the idea of putting owens in the big time yet...he's only had 1 really successful year in the minors as far as I know (last year at AA ball), he hasn't really faced even AAA pitching, he has several things to learn still (defense, base-stealing techniques), and as far as I know his arbitration clock hasn't started yet. I know it doesn't seem like a huge thing, but if Borchard doesn't make the 25 man roster this year...we lose him completely. Someone will claim him off waivers. If nothing else, I'm just going to continue hoping for an average year from him just so we can trade him to someone desperate for an outfield bat after an injury. If we've invested that much time and that much $$ in a guy...if there's any potential left there at all (and he still does perform pretty well at AAA), then I don't think it's a good idea to just waste all that investment. I agree with you, but if Ozzie and Kenny think that Owens will help the club more than any of the others, he'll get the job. They are going for it all again this year and I think they'll do whatever they think will make the team stronger.
  20. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) Wow ProDeathPenalty.com sure showed me with their detailed, scientific, factually based argumentation and debate skills If they want to talk about being moral degenerates then perhaps they can stop with the active bloodlust wanting to kill somebody. And I am pro-choice. I believe abortion should be safe, legal and rare. But when you have abstinence only being promoted in schools, many parents either unwilling or not knowing how to talk about safe sexual practices with their children, etc, then it is no wonder that these children are growing up into adults who don't know their ass from their elbow when it comes to safe sexuality practices. Plus, I don't see all these pro-lifers who want all these women to have these kids, I don't see them paying the medical bills and paying for all the needs of the kid for 18 years. If you want them around so badly, take care of them. It always struck me as odd that many self-described politicians that described themselves as Christians were always for the death penalty. If we insist on placing ourselves under the old law, as Paul reminds us, we are obligated to keep every commandment of the law (Gal. 5:3). But if Christ is the end of the law (Rom. 10:4), if we have been discharged from the law to serve, not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit (Rom. 7:6), then all of these biblical mores come under the authority of the Spirit. /ends.theological.banter There is a concept that many people live by. You don't see it too much on liberal side of things, so it might an obscure concept to you. It's commonly called, "being responsible for your actions". In other words, if you don't want a baby, take precautions or choose abstinence.

  22. QUOTE(needauribe @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) He works for the scrore now? Nice!
  23. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 12:36 AM) I picked Ben Grieve as a hopeful pick. I'd like to see a veteran like him make it somewhere in the big leagues anyways. I rather see Joe Borchard make with us.
  24. While all this discussion is cool and all, Contreras won't be traded until well into spring training if at all. With the rotation throwing so many innings last season and Garcia and Vazques pitching in the WBC, I don't think Kenny will even consider trading Contreras until those guys are in camp and he can see that everyone is healthy and schedule to start the season. Then he might pull the trigger on a deal.
