  1. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) News organizations choosing not to air something of their own volition is, in my opinion, freedom of the press. And airing the Book of Daniel, is not the same as airing something in the NBC Nightly News. For one thing, people watch the news. The reference to "The Book of Daniel" is showing the hypocrasy of the statement about respect for the religion. Pretty damn straight forward if you ask me.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 09:11 AM) Of course it is grandstanding. The Repubs know they can't allow Obama to continue unchallenged in his stature as some sort of an untouchable god senator. This is just the first salvo of what is only going to get worse. But dude ... we all know the Dems never grandstand!
  3. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) If you read the articles on this, including the letter that Obama wrote that started the whole thing, you will see that wasn't the case at all. I actually thought exactly what you did at first, until I did some more reading. Turns out what this is really about is that Obama and McCain have different plans for a reform bill, and can't agree on a compromise. Obama didn't promise to sing onto McCain's bill no matter what - he had his own, and decided at some point that he and McCain weren't going to see eye to eye. Now, I think its sad for both of them. But I think McCain (who I like, and have defended many times here) just overreacted on this one. I did read it. The way it came across to me is that Obama welched.
  4. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 09:51 AM) He sure as hell did have a choice. He could have sent Condi or Dick - well maybe not Cheney so much - but Condi definitely, coulda drafted Colin Powell outta retirement. Could have sent plenty of representatives. And he doesn't have to get elected ever again. He had plenty of choices. If he didn't want to go - as you might be implying - than why should it even matter what the other people said at the funeral. Doesn't that make his speech as insincere and ridiculous as someone calling the President a "weapon of misdirection?" To me, it does. Politically, he didn't have a choice. There are still elections coming up. That's not to say that he didn't attend because he sincerely wanted to pay his respects. I love how you jumped to insincere and ridiculous. Now who's being ridiculous?
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 09:47 AM) Could he have sighted personal safety concerns as a reason for not attending..? Moot, but I'm just curious. He would have been crucified in the media using that excuse. I can see the headlines now ... Cowardly Bush Skips King Funeral
  6. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) You're probably right. Gotta give the prez props for showing up though. He didn't have to, and I thought it was a nice thing to do. He didn't have a choice barring a national emergency or an emergency medical procedure.
  7. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) Amazing to see how fast Sosa slammed into the ground. Two years ago from being in Pepsi commercial after Pepsi commercial to barely getting offered a Major league contract. I don't have one iota of sympathy for him. He could have been a great baseball player. Instead, he settled on being a slugger with selfish attitude. I don't really care what happens to him this year. In baseball or not ... he's not worth my attention.
  8. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) You can't take the trash out of white trash. Man, Britney hooked up with a hillbilly and has been downhill ever since. Who the hell do you think you are? Talk about trash. Pot meet kettle. :banghead
  9. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) I'm sure you meant to quote me during your post. Yes, Bush has done something wrong. I believe issuing wiretraps without obtaining a simple warrant is unjustifiable. You won't hear me debate that. More than the infringement of privacy opponents have mentioned, I oppose the wiretaps because they violated the law. You can rationalize those connecting points of history as grounds to illustrate the struggles Loretta and family endured, but I look beyond that. EVEN IF the intentions were merely to draw parallels, the fact a democrat is saying it leads me to question their motives. They're honoring Loretta in one hand and insulting Bush in another. I just believe it's ridiculous the areas politics can drag itself to. For the reason we're discussing this issue is a disservice to Loretta. That's very informed post. I just have one question for you though. Who is Loretta?
  10. QUOTE(samclemens @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) the reason for the crisis: unions. it costs a minimum of $35 an hour in health benefits alone for a button pusher in a factory. i know this for a fact. how in the hell is a company supposed to survive when they have to pay people that much for a factory job? bottom line, the UAW has been absolutely raping and pilaging every last dime they could squeeze from GM. and now they are paying for it. you reap what you sow, socialists. and im a MI resident who knows people who were laid off, and i still say that. I the whole medical-insurance-pharmacutical-medicare racket has to be considered as partly to blame for this. The whole f***ing industry is set up to suck your life savings away from you as you are dying. There are pros and cons to unions. We'd be in deep s*** if the unions didn't exist, as in we wouldn't be making s*** in the work force. And you watch, if the current trend of weakening unions continues, the standard of living for the average American will decline.
  11. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) Way to keep yourself above the fray! You pick your frays, he'll pick his.
  12. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 12:56 AM) p.s. McCain letter = posturing to try to pander to the base he didn't pander to 6 years ago. I disagree. He just lambasted Obama for breaking his word. totally justifyable in my opinion.
  13. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 01:23 AM) Council Forges Deal on Stadium Interesting. They didn't even have to stop the clock. I'm impressed.
  14. Charlotte, Nashville or Portland. I don't think MLB would seriously consider Vegas, but I may be wrong. DC wants the team in Virginia, I believe, they want the benefit of having a local team without having to pay the price. I can't say I blame them, though.
  15. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) Curse you. . . Regardless ... Great response by both of you!!!!!
  16. I have a feeling that Juggs was refering to me when he said that some aren't man enough to handle the benign, general pot shots taken at libs. The fact is, if he'd take his head out of his self infatuated ass he'd realize that I'm regularly taking my pot shots at the liberal members here at Soxtalk. However, I won't demean or belittle them as they do have legitimate POV's that do need to be heard, whether I happen to agree with them or not. But this guy, he's a real self absorbed piece of ... uh ... work. I ask him if terms like "left wing nut job" are really necessary, and he tries to twist it back to me for pointing it out. Juggs. I have two words for you..... Go Away!
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) WTF? And if this is more then an oversight, why aren't more stories being made about this? Something doesn't fit here, and something tells me this is a very isolated incident. And it ends up here. Imagine that.
  18. I can think of times when thinner would be better.
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) :rolly LMFAO!!!!
  20. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) You don't realize it but you just did far worse damage than I did. You just associated "nut job" to all of the "left-wing". I didn't. I specifically denoted the "left-wing nut-job" as being separate from the "left-wing" in general. But if you're speaking from a position of authority on the issue who am I to disagree? Look. You throw out those demeaning labels and then try and put it back on me when I call you on it. You put the words 'left-wing nut job' together, not me. Take your twisted views of things and deposit them someplace else but here.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) As soon as the tribune starts spinning the story of the cubs needing him, I guarantee he will be one of their top targets in the offseason. And just like the Furcal sweepstakes, they'll finish second. It's the Cubbie way.
  22. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 08:19 AM) Good stuff! They have to promote their opponents to bring in fans. Ummmm .... not really.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) Jon Garland against the O's at the cell. His change up to retire Miguel Tejada was one of the best pitches I have ever seen. That's the one! ^^^^^^
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) This is obviously your opinion, because I cant see it happening. If there is anyone with less of a chance than Borchard to make the team, its Ross Gload. The guy is the black sheep in the organization, and is one of the worst OF'ers we could have out there. I would rather have Joe Borchards defense and occasional power than Ross Gloads swing at the first pitch crappy defense. I agree in the sense that Gload's prospects for making the team are slim and none.
  25. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 06:56 AM) Dire Straits came and went so fast I don't think anyone really noticed their talents. Simon and Garfunkel ave the greatest harmonies I've ever heard. Many times it is impossible for me to tell when one voice stopped and the other started. The B side of the "Brothers in Arms" album was great! The A side had Money For Nothing, Walk Of Life, etc .... But I always felt the flip side was much better.
