QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 11:08 AM) And I'm amazed that the Republicans decided that based entirely on their reasoning skills...which of course told them that a continuing investigation of the President would be bad for their reelection chances. Them bastards are pretty damn smart, aren't they?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) Gosh, I'm soooooo surprised by this........ Yes, me too. I'm shocked that Congress is not willing to act when there is nothing illegal on which to act.

QUOTE(Cknolls @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) This story is so old. The media has no time to show pictures of the Danish cartoons, but they can show two year old photos of Abu Ghraib. Once again the hypocrisy of the MSM is apparent. They have no shame. I can't wait to hear their excuse about running these new photos as opposed to not running the cartoons. What Media Bias????????????????????????????????????????????

My biggest complaint with Gore's speech is not what he said, but where he said it. If he wants to give a speech here in the U.S. to spur policy changes, that's one thing. But to say all this crap over there and inflaming the anti-American sentiment of the average Arab even more is arguably treasonous.

I'm hoping the bloggers help keep the media honest. Or, maybe I should say, MAKE the media be more honest. It's kind of ironic, but all these years the media has been advocating themselves as America's watchdog. Now, the blogger's are playing the role of watchdog with the media. Thank God Al Gore invented the internet.

C'mon guys. Nobody wants to talk about this? We've got a national scandal going on with the attempted murderby Cheney.

This is rapidly declining from a discussion to petty sniping. I'm done with it.

I just don't see a hunting accident as an inconceivable event. You've finally made me see why we are having a difference of opinion here. You think there are shenanigans going on here and I think it was a simple accident. But then, there has been a constant get Bush and/or Cheney attitude throughout the left side of the political spectrum for quite some time. It's to the point where if anything happens, you just know what's coming. The left sure isn't shy about throwing accusations around, yet when I defend against them I get compared to a Cub fan. That's low, even for you.

Terrell Owens is football's version of Sammy Sosa.

Uribe was a more patient hitter toward the end of the season and through the playoffs. Whether this carries over to '06 or not is the question. Sometimes, that kind of discipline just comes with experience. Uribe may have reached that point in his career where he is a smarter, more patient hitter than he has been. If so, this #2 thing has a chance to work because Uribe would then be a different type of hitter than what we saw in '04 and most of '05.

How many Green Lanterns are there? I think I see 3 in that drawing.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) Very simple...Lexis Nexis starts to have a large number of holes in their data when you start pushing back into the 1st term of Clinton. They didn't have any way to access the data to compile a complete story. That speaks volumes.

QUOTE(minors @ Feb 15, 2006 -> 01:15 AM) If either Hillary, Gore, Dean, Kerry are nominated for the White House in 2008 the Republicans will win easily. The liberals message is of criticize and blame just doesn't sit well with most average Americans like me. In 2004 Bush only won by 34 but the fact is we got closer in states that are normally democratic and this trend will continue if the democrats keep nominating such extreme liberals. And deep down the liberals know this. They know, but they are too stupid to accept it. The Democrats will again cater to extreme left and will again fail.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) LMAO. Let's look at two events Bill Clinton accepts a blow job, and we invest hundreds of millions of dollars and a special prosecutor, and hold impeachment proceedings. Vince Fosters name comes up. The Veep shoots a man, and the press should STFU No need to investigate, trust the government on this one. Nothing here, look the other way. Nothing serious. gotta love us Americans. Just in case you are forgetting, this was damn hunting accident. This s*** happens all over the country all the time. f***ing Al Gore was in Saudi Arabia batmouthing the US for abusive treatment of Arabs and this damn Cheney s*** is all the media can think about. Let's let an ex-vp go overseas and inflame even more Arabs against America and Americans so they'll run to Iraq and join the insugency, with minscule press coverage. But let Cheney have an accident and the f***ing media is swarming like vultures. There's an example disgusting for you.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 09:17 AM) Here was late night's take on it: (my favorites in bold) "Late Show with David Letterman," CBS: • "Good news, ladies and gentlemen, we have finally located weapons of mass destruction: It's Dick Cheney." • "But here is the sad part — before the trip Donald Rumsfeld had denied the guy's request for body armor." • "We can't get Bin Laden, but we nailed a 78-year-old attorney." • "The guy who got gunned down, he is a Republican lawyer and a big Republican donor and fortunately the buck shot was deflected by wads of laundered cash. So he's fine. He took a little in the wallet." __ "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," NBC: • "Although it is beautiful here in California, the weather back East has been atrocious. There was so much snow in Washington, D.C., Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fat guy thinking it was a polar bear. • "That's the big story over the weekend. ... Dick Cheney accidentally shot a fellow hunter, a 78-year-old lawyer. In fact, when people found out he shot a lawyer, his popularity is now at 92 percent." • "I think Cheney is starting to lose it. After he shot the guy he screamed, 'Anyone else want to call domestic wire tapping illegal?'" • "Dick Cheney is capitalizing on this for Valentine's Day. It's the new Dick Cheney cologne. It's called Duck!" ___ "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," Comedy Central: • "Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a man during a quail hunt ... making 78-year-old Harry Whittington the first person shot by a sitting veep since Alexander Hamilton. Hamilton, of course, (was) shot in a duel with Aaron Burr over issues of honor, integrity and political maneuvering. Whittington? Mistaken for a bird." • "Now, this story certainly has its humorous aspects. ... But it also raises a serious issue, one which I feel very strongly about. ... moms, dads, if you're watching right now, I can't emphasize this enough: Do not let your kids go on hunting trips with the vice president. I don't care what kind of lucrative contracts they're trying to land, or energy regulations they're trying to get lifted — it's just not worth it." ___ "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," CBS: • "He is a lawyer and he got shot in the face. But he's a lawyer, he can use his other face. He'll be all right." • "You can understand why this lawyer fellow let his guard down, because if you're out hunting with a politician, you think, 'If I'm going to get it, it's going to be in the back.' " • "The big scandal apparently is that they didn't release the news for 18 hours. I don't think that's a scandal at all. I'm quite pleased about that. Finally there's a secret the vice president's office can keep." "Apparently the reason they didn't release the information right away is they said we had to get the facts right. That's never stopped them in the past." ... And I didn't expect anything less of you.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Ask, and he shall receive . . . Ok. I didn't say anything about Democrats ... which is what I was implying.
-
As I said. Some things are just expected.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) Backhanded accusing people is sad. Using an accident like that to make Democrats, who did nothing, look bad is disgusting. Who said anything about Democrats?
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) Well it seemed minor to most of the talk show hosts, I didn't notice any politicians making jokes. But right from the start the Republicans around here started hoping for boorish behavior from liberals, that is sad. Some things are predictable. That's what is sad.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Still trolling for bad behavior? When a minor accident becomes life threatening, common decency dictates it isn't a laughing matter anymore. I find it rather insulting that some people here keep accusing people, even before anything happens, of poor behavior. :headshake I guess getting shot and hospitalized is considered minor in Texas.

:finger :finger There's one for each of you!

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) And no more lipservice from a mouthpiece for the Vice President about how the guy he shot in the face is just "doing fine and in good spirits"? :headshake Hmmm ... circumstances don't change?

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) Another fun fact about Andrew Jackson: in his youth, he participated in many duels. One of these was with Thomas Hart Benton, in 1813. After Benton shot Jackson, he fled Tennessee for the relative safety of Missouri. Jackson carried the bullet for many years. Years later, when both men were in Washington, Jackson's doctors agreed to remove the bullet. Jackson offered the bullet back to Benton, but Benton declined, saying that Jackson now owned the bullet. If this is asme duel I'm thinking of, Benton was known for his accuracy. Jackson supposedly wore heavy clothing under a loose fitting coat, which caused Benton to shoot for where he thought the heart would be as opposed to where it actually was. The shot just missed Jackson's heart.
