  1. I bet you don't get many takers on that bet.
  2. I remember reading that quote as well. FWIW
  3. Sorry smalls, I should remember this but I'm drawing a blank. Welcome to Soxtalk, though.
  4. That is probably the case, but we are the closest AL team to his hometown so he might consider finishing up here where he can DH from time to time. It's a longshot, but another case worth investigating.
  5. That was the game. Row 10 .... Right behind the Rangers dugout. I mentioned on here several times I'd be at that game beforehand.
  6. Whether he's a Boras client or not, I'd investigate it. Unless you could pick Steve Finley on the cheap, Drew would be the best option and I'd do my best to make it a viable option.
  7. .323 BA, .378 OBP, .484 SLG, .862 OPS
  8. My thinking on moving Konerko or Lee .... Would you trade either of those guys straight up for JD Drew? I would, even with his history on injuries. He would fit in perfectly with the Sox. LH hitting Rf'er is exactly what we need. So, if we can sign Drew or someone similar, trade Lee or Kong and plug in with Gload at 1B or Everett and/or Borchard in LF, I think the Sox would be more balanced and more competetive. Then, on top of that, you can add the players you receive in the trade to the equation.
  9. Another awesome year for "the lawn ornament", as he was known around her before the 2003 season. Another guy several people wanted to dump.
  10. I would have made that deal too. Then and now. Having Gload and Reed in the lineup rather than Konerko and whoever has been in RF plus Garcia and Olivo. That doesn't mean Seattle would have made that deal.

I agree with every post made since my previous one. So why would anyone want to trade Rowand?
  12. No Jackie, you didn't all those things. You did say KW overpaid for Garcia and used the following to back it up: 1. Reed's minor league statistics. ..... It's already been shown that those do not gaurentee major league success. 2. Reed's fast start ...... again, the first 50 or so AB's of someone's major league career are no indicator of major success, or even lack thereof. See Willie Mays. The point is, is that's way too soon to determine if KW "paid too much" for Garcia. Reed may be a blip on the Mariners radar in 5 years and Garcia might win 3 consecutive Cy Young awards.

Rowand doesn't fit the definition of "solid player all around"? In my opinion, he does.
  14. That's helluva story Steff. There are some message boards and chatrooms where people are pretty tight.

    Some funnies..

The difference between your job and your wife: After 5 years ... your job still sucks.
  16. He had Tommy John surgery in 2002. If history is any indicator, most pitchers take two full years to recover from this. Grilli is right on schedule to be 100% healthy. He's worth a shot.
  17. Guillen is a talented player that is a bargain salary wise. He'd be a good addition to the team as far as his skills go. On the other hand, it hasn't been too long ago that we had a clubhouse cancer that effected the performance of the entire team. Royce Clayton. Jamie Navarro before him. It can screw up a team atmosphere. Based on what I do know about Guillen, I'd risk it. But, I also understand that I may not be privy to all the information that is out there .... information that the Sox players and KW may be aware of.
  18. I can certainly see JR advocating a switch of divisions. Competing against the Yankees and Red Sox would make a more attractive product, and ... as was stated earlier, would put the Sox more into the national spotlight. This is right up JR's alley.
  19. Maybe Ozzie's wife has another hot niece they can fix up with Pavano.
  20. Contreras is a bigger question mark than Garland. I have much more faith in Garland. You know you will get at least a near .500 performance out of him. I can see Contreras make us long for the days of Jamie navarro or Todd Ritchie. I really think he can be THAT bad. I'm not saying he will be, but I can see it happening.
  21. I'm with Jim on this one. You have to take into consideration the timing of the Everett deal. At the time, Frank was on the DL for what was then an extended period of time. We were hoping he'd be back in late Sept. Magglio was back off the DL. So KW was acquiring a DH, not an outfielder. There was no reason to think that Everett wouldn't hit as his nagging injuries healed. There is no doubt about Magglio being active when that trade was made. I went to a Sox Rangers game in July. It was Magglio's first appearence in RF after coming off the DL. It was also Everett's first game with the Sox this year.
  22. Ok ... if that's not fair, just include his time with Yankees. That will change my mind.
  23. Yes, and the odds are that Garland will outperform Contreras the next two years. He's a better pitcher. Contreras hasn't learn to be anything but a thrower.
  24. Can I slect the starts by Garland that I want to count, or is that only allowed with Contreras?
