That's pretty damn good, Mr. Showtime.
-
You guys are going to have to face reality. The Cubs are a GOOD baseball team.
-
Hopefully, Baltimore is smart enough to trade for Konerko.
-
There's only one way to handle the Cub fans if the Cubs win it all. Just congratulate them. That'll leave them speechless.
-
I think Torre would be an excellant choice. He'd certainly command respect from his players, to say nothing of the fans and media. Besides, I met the guy when was manager at St. Louis. Helluva nice guy.
-
There's nothing like a good baseball rivalry. That's part of what makes the game great.
-
Gee, I don't know, but if I were in his shoes I may want to take time to think things over before I just sign and not consider what other options I had.
-
Nah ... it's because he's a Cub prospect.

Anyone that would put Clinton at the top of this list, well, I don't want to know the reason. It's got to be pure psychobabble. Tough choice between Lincoln and Jefferson, but I have to go with ol' Abe.
-
That's the way it's always been. They just want to put a "competitive" team on the field, not a championship caliber team.
-
Ahh ... the voice of reason. Thanks Darlin'.

Luke Appling? Bench, Gehrig, Joe Morgan, Honus Wagner, Mike Schmidt, Williams, Mays, Ruth. Walter Johnson, Lefty Grove, Cy Young, Warren Spahn, Bob Gibson. Eckersly and Wilhelm in the Pen. That was my White Sox bias coming out.

There is no way they get swept. They have no offense, coupled with the fact that their starting pitching has been crushed by the Braves lineup this season. Prior, Zambrano and Estes all have ERA's over 10.00. Wood hasn't faced the Braves this season and Clement was the starter with any success (ERA below 3.00). ya, they totally suck They made the playoffs. And they are better than 90% of the people in here give them credit for.

We'll be looking for next years picks from you in March, then.

Its great to see that the Sox moves this year and attempts at a win brought ya back. I think the Sox are gonna have to continue to try and go for it all next year and in the future years if they want to win a lot of the other fans they've pretty much pissed off. I can only hope they will stay agressive and up the payroll and be willing to take the shots to become a world series champ. All I can say is if they blow this thing up...I'll be extremely pissed. I don't think you'll see a complete overhaul attempted, but salary issues are going to make for some difficult choices. I believe KW will, within the confines of JR's budgetary limits, try and put a team on the field that can be in the hunt, and then add to it come July. He tried that this year and I believe that will prove to be his M.O. Of course, if the team stinks, then it's Ray Durham type of deals in July, instead.

I found it interesting and somewhat surprising to discover that other than the 2000 season, the best year under Jerry Manual was ..... 2003!

I keep hearing we should put Castillo at SS if we sign him. Does anyone have a clue if he can even play SS? That's like last off season I kept hearing Josh Paul as a CF'er. To improve our defense up the middle we need a proven shortstop playing shortstop, a proven centerfielder (NOT Carl Everett) playing centerfield, etc. There is more to the game than just the bats. Or did this season not convince everyone of that? We don't need an upgrade at catcher. Olivo is a solid ML catcher and Sandy, if he returns, a more than competent backup. Olivo will improve with the stick. It takes time for these young guys to acclimate themselves to major league pitching, day in and day out.
-
Cito Gaston is not a proven winner? Hmmm. You'd think 2 World Series titles would qualify. Call it hunch, but I think this team is set up to bring in Ozzie Guillen as the new manager. The fact that the entire coaching staff was retained, other than Kimm seems to eliminate most of the "established" candidates. LaRussa without Duncan? That's like Abbott without Costello. As Ozzie said, he'd have the media and fans on his side when he got here and all he would need was a good coaching staff. That staff is already in place. Gaston or Randolph might be willing to come in under those conditions. Gaston has been sitting idle for a while and Randolph would probably take any shot at managing he could get.

LMAO .... That is as good of a reason as any.

I think Garland is never going to better than he is now he is not a #2 starter with his era and control problems , I would like to see him dealt in the offseason. Honestly, where do people come up with this crap? A 23 year old with loads of potential, who has improved, is never going to get better? Thats as weird of a statement as ive read in a long while............ I have to disagree. I've read several of them just this morning.

Well, the speculation I'm hearing is that if Frank declines the $6 million option, the Sox will let him walk. Reinsdorf may have other ideas, but who knows?
-
As much as you dislike the Cubs, they are not deserving of ridicule on anyone's part. They are in the playoffs and we aren't. If you think they are just going to roll over and die with that pitching staff and with Dusty Baker in the dugout, you are sadly mistaken. They may not win this series, but they damn well can.
