  1. Good to see Hester catch a long touchdown pass. Also, is it just me or do the Bears ALWAYS seem to start the game by throwing 3 passes in a row or 4 passes out of 5 or something like that? Ron Turner always thinks he's tricky, but I think the bet way for him to trick a defense is to come out and run it based on his past early game patterns.
  2. That is a very good point actually. I get the feeling the SOS boost of beating Alabama combined with the poll boost and being a 12-1 SEC Champion would be enough to get Florida into the title game, but the computer nerds would know better than I would. If Florida wins Saturday and STILL doesn't end up in the top 2, the hell that would come from the SEC and Florida people would be incredible, and understandably so because that would make the "raw deal" Texas got today look like nothing.
  3. I'm curious if Texas or USC would go to the title game if OU loses. I doubt we will get to find out, but that would be very interesting. I would enjoy chaos again, and I still don't agree with the team in the Big 12 title game, but Florida/Oklahoma would be a fantastic national title game so I would have few problems with that.
  4. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Bulls beat the Sixers tonight - went 3-4 on the circus trip. That's acceptable, considering its the best we've done since MJ left (I think). In the span of 40 seconds, Rose came from behind and swatted away a sure lay-up from Andre Miller, and then absolutely broke Miller's ankles. It was SICK, gotta catch that s*** on SC if you missed it. They could have had an above .500 road trip at 4-3 which would have been outstanding considering they were in the Denver and San Antonio games until the 4th quarter (especially the Denver game), but I certainly think we can all live with a 3-4 circus trip after some of the past ones. Good to see Rose get a 10 assist game too, he had a couple 9 ones earlier this year but hadn't hit double digits IIRC. I would guess a triple double is coming soon as well.
  5. QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 11:16 PM) no it's not. As of now, with 4 weeks left in the season, the NFC east has 1 playoff team and the NFC south has 3. It could still obviously change, and the east still has the best team in football, but the south is a better division top to bottom right now. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) Denver has been one of the bigger Jekyll and Hyde teams this year. Sometimes they are just awesome, like today. Other days they are just mediocre to bad. I never really expected that from Shanahan, he usually is consistently good. They have some great wins and also some horrible losses. Just seem like a classic "plays up/down to their level of competition" team. Their running system is amazing though, they started Felix and DMC's fullback from Arkansas today and he ran for over 100 yards.
  6. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) I find it comical that NO ONE is giving Alabama a chance to beat Florida. I give them a chance. Not much of a chance, but if they play their very best game, they certainly have a shot. Their win at Georgia is certainly a very good win but they aren't nearly as good as people thought (as we saw yesterday), and the win at LSU is nice but the Tigers needed a comeback win against Troy to make it to 7-5. I know it's weird to say since they play in the SEC, but Alabama really hasn't played a strong schedule, and they certainly haven't played anybody near the quality of Florida. I know the same can be said for Florida and they even have a loss (and a bad one at that), but the Gators just appear to be a stronger team. They have a vastly superior offense with their big play ability and balance, and although Alabama has a better defense, it's not by a wide margin as the Gators have been playing some wonderful defense lately. Plus, this game is indoors on a fast track, which plays to Florida's strength.
  7. QUOTE (Shadows @ Nov 30, 2008 -> 02:14 AM) How should Texas clearly be in the Big 12 title game? They lost to Texas Tech, Oklahoma RIPPED Texas Tech.. After tomorrow, Oklahoma will have beaten 3 top 12 teams ide imagine (Depending where Cincy ends up) If Texas "clearly" deserves to go to the Big 12 Title game, why doesn't Texas Tech clearly deserve to go? They beat Texas.. Im tired of hearing all the Texas fans crying about how since they beat Oklahoma they should be ahead of them in the polls.. Uh, well Tech beat you so why don't they get to be in front of you in the polls? Because that's not how it works, and at the end of the day ide say Oklahoma is a much more impressive team than Texas. Throw out the Big 12 opponents because they have to play them anyway and OU beat 2 10 win teams Non Conference who could end up being top 10 teams when the season is over. Schedule in conference, in terms of strength, goes to Texas. Unlike OU, they had to play Mizzou, the best North team, and they both played the same south teams obviously. Now, OU did for sure play a tougher out of conference schedule, I'll admit that. There is no perfect way to seperate the three teams. I start by throwing Tech out because they were stomped into the ground in their loss. Then you get to Texas and OU, and to me this is a Texas vs. OU argument. They played on a neutral field, and Texas won. To be honest, I think OU is a better football team and certainly more impressive even with that in mind, but you can't argue with the results of their game on a neutral site. I think I lose you by throwing Texas Tech out, but I'm sorry, if you get beat by 50 or whatever it was, you lose in a 3 team argument in my opinion, even if you beat Texas on a miracle play to end the game in Lubbock.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) The Giants certainly can be beat, especially if Jacobs isn't healthy. But the key to beating them is on your O-line. The Patriots lost to them last year because of that Giant pass rush. If you can't stop that, then you're just doomed. True, and the Dallas offensive line is very sketchy in pass blocking. It was exposed when Romo was out, and it hasn't got much better since he came back, although his elusiveness covers it up. He won't escape those Giants pass rushers like he has the Seattle and San Francisco ones, those boys are a little different.
  9. Illinois wins as ugly a basketball game as I've seen this year against Tulsa to take the South Padre Championship and remain perfect. Tisdale wins tourney MVP as he (hopefully) is coming into his own. NIU's basketball team is making me sad yet again, so hopefully Illinois makes the winter fun. Another opportunity to take a big step in a few days against Clemson at the Assembly Hall.
  10. Texas should still CLEARLY be in the Big 12 Title game, but I think Oklahoma and Florida are the two best teams in America right now so if OU comes out on top tomorrow in the BCS, I guess the prospect of a potential Florida/OU title game is fun. It's a shame USC lost that Oregon State game though, their defense is as good as I can remember seeing.
  11. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 29, 2008 -> 08:29 AM) talent they have, toughness not so much. Still, I think the Cowboys will be a better team as a result of their struggles this year. This goes against my better judgment, and I HATE the Cowboys, but I have a weird feeling they might win it all. I COMPLETELY agree that their struggles will make them a better team and a tougher out in the playoffs, and they are quite talented indeed. But like you said, "toughness not so much", and nobody is going to beat the Giants at Giants Stadium without that.
  12. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 11:01 AM) Haters. The Cowboys can win out if they want, but they'll still just be a wild card and the road to the Super Bowl still clearly goes through Giants Stadium. I don't think the Cowboys have the talent or toughness to beat them.
  13. QUOTE (rangercal @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) Nice win for Nebraska! 57 yard fg! At 8-4, they exceeded my expectations this year. Callahan seems to have things going in the right direction there. If I recall correctly, they lose the RB Lucky (although the kid that played today looked good), as well as their two top receivers and Ganz. The defense also needs some work, but I think Pelini is a very good coach and that will improve as he gets more of his recruits in town. To me, Missouri and Nebraska are going to be the top two teams in the Big 12 North in the near future, and although that's not the level Nebraska used to be at, it's a start. They have a way to go to catch Mizzou talentwise though, but again, I think Pelini will work on that.
  14. Davis is starting to figure it out obviously. If Tisdale ever follows suit (and although in a different way, he has just as much raw talent as Davis IMO), that is a nasty duo to deal with on the front line. Combine that with McCamey and Legion, and that is certainly something right there in the Big 10 for the rest of this year before the calvary arrival the next 2 years, which would help even more going with those 4 current sophomores in the future. Tisdale saved the day today though, hopefully they take out Tulsa tomorrow.
  15. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) I don't know how this is anything but expected when Kyle Taber (of 1.3 PPG) is our returning "star". The jerseys still say "Indiana" on them, which makes it very hard for me to wrap my mind around. That's all it is really to be honest.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) Greatest upset in basketball history. I was thinking of this as I posted my comment actually, and that Virginia team turned out fine obviously. However, it doesn't change the fact that an already perceived (accurately) awful Indiana team barely beating Chaminade makes it seem more likely that this will be without question the worst basketball team in IU history, or at least recent IU history.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) I'm excited to see if Harangody will finally show that he's as good if not better than Hansbrough. I've never understood why Harangody doesn't get the credit. I would guess Hansbrough has had the better career, but overall they are pretty similar: hard working, goofy white guys that put up HUGE numbers in part because of skill and in part because their teams score 80 plus a night. To me, I can't see one and not think of the other one. Should be an excellent game tonight. And WOW, Indiana is even worse than I thought. Chaminade had a decent look at a 3 that would have won the game, but the shooter gagged on it and left the ball well short, and the Hoosiers win 81-79.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) Well in fairness, Weis has recruited better than Willingham (on paper at least). Not saying he shouldn't be fired but that would be a difference between the two. You are correct technically. However it's strange that Weis won with Willingham's players at a pretty good rate the first couple of years he was in South Bend, but now the last couple with his own players, he's been pretty bad.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) If he's not, I think its pretty obvious that Willingham was fired for reasons other than his record. Indeed, and of course the interesting fact about that is Weis ONLY won when he had Willingham's players.
  20. 2 pieces of news today for Notre Dame and Charlie Weis: 1. According to Teddy Greenstein and the Tribune, Weis' buyout, which was reported to be huge, is actually "loose change" and won't affect if Weis is retained or not. The buyout could be anywhere from 2 to 4.5 million, based on what the paper implies. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colle...0,3989895.story 2. Terry Boers just said on Boers and Bernstein that Weis will be fired Monday unless Notre Dame somehow wins at USC this weekend (not happening). Take that for what it's worth, but Boers NEVER goes out on a limb and reports something one of his "peeps" said like that.
  21. QUOTE (JuiceCruz16 @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) I will be interested in seeing how the Carolina dee holds up against the high powered Irish. They have been superb so far, but Oregon and Kentucky may just be fools gold. Perimeter dee has been a weakness the past few years, but it has been impressive thusfar. This game should be uptempo from the tip off, it should be fun. I don't think it will hold up great, but it won't have to. I smell something like an 87-80 UNC victory tonight.
  22. I can't put into words how awesome that is. Obama is going to have to REALLY suck as a President for me to dislike him, with all of this White Sox goodwill he's building up.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 26, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) Curry held scoreless...and Davidson wins by 30. They were double teaming him when he was out on the perimeter even without the ball. Indeed, it was the "triangle and 2" defense taken to the extreme. I'm curious if a team with superior athletes could try that against Davidson and be able to recover in time against the other players. Probably not, but it would be fascinating to watch. Curry took it in stride though, only tried 3 shots in 32 minutes, very unselfish.
  24. Haven't the two "furthest from the center" presidents in recent memory been Carter and Bush 43? (despite government spending in his time, he's still a far righty). To me, that's as great an example as any that being far from the center as preisdent has it's downfalls, as those two both did an awful job. I actually am a fan of the cabinet Obama is putting together. He's pretty far to the left, and HE can represent that voice in cabinet meetings. In fact, I bet Obama is thinking that as well as he puts his cabinet together.
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) Is there anyway ND scores on USC? They could score in general, but if Notre Dame (1) scores 10 points plus or (2) covers the 30 point spread, I'd be surprised. I would be less suprised at number 2 since USC's offense is hot and cold, but USC will be ready and focused for this game, and they are scary in games like those, especially against inferior opponents.
