Bulls to hire Vinny Del Negro as coach
So Pax promises a "name that will resonate with the fans" and we end up with some guy that has never coached anything at any level. Pax is such an awful GM, he'll probably trade the draft pick for Carmelo or something now. Ugh.

Griffey hits 600
Best baseball player I've ever seen. Congrats to him, I hope one day he can get a ring, although it'd likely be as a DH for an AL team if it happens.

Congrats to Griffey on hitting #600 tonight. Only the 4th player to ever do it without the aid of being a science project.

Poreda to B'ham...
I can't decide if this promotion means we think Poreda is very advanced as a pitcher, or if we think he's going to be a relief pitcher. Either way, for him to be in double a in a year is nice.

So what's the deal with Jordan Danks?
Well. the mystery on this one is over, he's signing. What a great day for the Sox, on and off the field.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying...
I gotta be honest, I didn't post in this thread until now because I thought it was bulls***. However, today's win was the first one we had this year that, all things considered, gave me that feeling I had in 2005 (and the first 3 and a half or 4 months of 2006 really). Damn, I missed that feeling and games like that.

IT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
Most impressive win of the homestand, and perhaps one of the most impressive wins of the season. Swisher FINALLY coming around is the biggest thing to happen to our offense all season outside of Q's emergence, we won a game where the pitching wasn't great, finish off a four game sweep of the second place team, and on and on. I said before this series that I'll be a believer and start to get excited if we sweep, and I stand by that. Now, on to Detroit to try and bury the pussy cats for good.

Danks brothers drop Boras
Well this explains why we drafted Jordan (I don't believe in coincidences). Great news obviously, it means for sure we'll sign Jordan IMO, now let's try and get John a nice, long term deal and not have to worry about either of these guys for the next several years.

Mariotti hides behind his editors, as other ST writers slam him
He's perhaps the worst sports journalist in America, but he sells papers, and a desperate gutter publication like the Sun-Times will keep him as long as that remains the case, regardless of the fact that almost EVERYBODY hates him. That has been the story in a nutshell for years now.

And that's a White Sox Winner!
Regardless of how you feel about him, Ozzie isn't getting and will never be fired, that's just a fact. If you think otherwise, then I just don't think you're paying attention. I have been a critic of Ozzie moreso than most, but he's going to leave this job when he wants to.

For GOP only
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 11:28 PM) Dead voters voting. I wonder who they voted for? No potential for fraud there. http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/06/04/de...ling-officials/ Vote early, Vote often, Vote dead. Chicago/Illinois politics have left a legacy that will last and be copied forever with those three things.

And that's a White Sox Winner!
QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 12:01 AM) Kudos to Crede, guy does not get his due. He doesn't? He's probably the most beloved player on the team outside of A.J. He's having a great stretch and generally great offensive year, but he needs to stop with the poor fielding. He's carried us the last two nights though.

And that's a White Sox Winner!
I'm not sure how good this team is, but with our pitching and the design of our offense, we should be damn good at The Cell now that it's hot out and the ball is carrying. I don't want to get too excited here, but things are looking good. It'd be nice to keep pounding the s*** out of these Twins, sending them out of town down 6.5 and feeling outmanned (but 3/4 is ok too).

2008 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) It also helps to mention average BABIP is usually around 290-300 Correct, and when you consider the fact that Swish, Konerko, and Thome can still hit the ball hard, their BABIP's all are due to go up quite a bit. Hopefully this process of the offense reverting to what it really should be has started here this week, because we've looked good.

So what's the deal with Jordan Danks?
QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) The Austin, TX newspaper and the Texas Longhorn people expect Danks to forego his sr. season and go pro: http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sp...5basedraft.html The Sox will have the special asst. to Reinsdorf / designated-you-deal-with-Boras guy Dennis Gilbert handle the negotiations. I expect this to get done, it makes too much sense not to. Then again, it's Boras we're talking about. Yeah, with the extra money we have due to losing the pick to Milwaukee over the Linebrink deal, plus having only one of the top 89 (I think that was it) picks, plus plus we should get Kenny's kid at a bargain, this should get done I think.

2008 Chicago Cubs Catch-All Thread
It seems like anytime I see a Cub pitcher get to a 3-2 count, he throws a slider down and away and the hitter swings and misses for strike 3. When do these people get the advanced scouting reports and realize to lay off that pitch? QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 11:36 PM) The way Saito pitches vs the Cubs, count on extra innings. Nope, didn't f*** around with that tonight, Kuroda finished it off himself for the 3-0 complete game shutout win. A 4 hitter with no walks and 11 strikeouts, pretty damn dominant. He's thrown 15 and a third and allowed one earned run against the blue b****es now. Good to see a perfect day in Chicago baseball today, Sox win (and gain ground in the central) and the Cubs lose, hooray "Chicago Victory". For all the love the blue b****es get, their division lead is only 1/2 game bigger than ours, and although their offense is obviously better, our pitching blows theirs away. Can't wait for the crosstown series.

White Sox sign Esteban Loaiza/Option Wassermann
After seeing his stuff for one inning, I REALLY hope he's just taking Masset's old role and only pitching in garbage time. If your only hitting 88 when you reach back on the TV gun (which is traditionally giving the pitcher an extra couple MPH), that's a big issue. I guess it's possible his stuff was that way due to the layoff, but also he must have been released for a reason. Bah, I am correcting myself midpost, and I'll try and be more patient and see what his stuff looks like after a few more outings. But I was more than underwhelmed tonight, hopefully it's just a case of rust, but at the same time I wouldn't trust him in a spot of any relevance right now. Fortunately, our pen is great so we can experiment here I guess.

IT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 11:05 PM) USCF is a goofy park. The wind is howling out of the SW yet the garbage flows on the field towards the SW corner. The winds at The Cell are just bizarre, it's almost beyond a swirling effect, as if the park defies gravity. IIRC, the winds at The Cell have always been weird and strong, but since the renovations with the fan deck, upper deck, and fundementals, it's become even weirder and stronger. Quentin hit a ball to right center for the 3 run homer, carried like hell, Swish hit one to about the same spot and it just died in the wind. There are really only two certains at The Cell in regards to the wind: 1. Ignore the flags, because they will tell you nothing. 2. The ball ALWAYS carries from the left field foul pole to the comcast sign to the right of our bullpen in left center. As for the game tonight, that was vintage 2001-2004 White Sox with the score, and to be honest, it's nice to see us win a game like that for once here in 2008. However, the bullpen was still great (outside of Loaiza, who we hopefully won't see outside of garbage situations like tonight) and the defense was also great. Also nice to see us win a game for Javy in which he wasn't great, he's had some tough luck ND's and losses. Hopefully we're ready for Livan and his 83 MPH fastballs.

2008 White Sox Catch-All Thread
I saw some idiot throw a home run back the other night. The good news is a lot of people told the ushers of this nonsense, and he was thrown out. DO YOUR PART!! If you see some assclown throw a home run by the other team back, find an usher and identify the assclown. We don't want losers who throw home run balls back instead of giving it to a kid. The Cell isn't Wrigley, so don't throw s*** on field, especially baseballs.

At Bat Music: Chicago White Sox
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article_entertainm...d=rss_cws#atbat It doesn't mention it, but Swisher also uses "Ridin Dirty" by Chamillionaire and "Back In Black" by AC/DC. And the fact Q has "Vivrant Thing" by Q-Tip playing for some of his AB's is pretty clever. I see this thread every year, "what songs do the players have as their AB songs", so now we know.

All Things ProCain
The sooner people realize the ACTUAL CONTENT of Obama speeches are nothing more than classic liberal handbook cliches, the better. He's a hell of a public speaker, but you could make a video like this in regards to content for most of his speeches. He just drags out the cliches many past and future democrats have and will use, and throws in forms of the word "change" a few dozen times.

Official Draft Thread
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) He got taken in the 16th round by Baltimore, and NIU's friday starter Trevor Feeney got taken later by Detroit. I went to a bunch of games this year and figured he would get drafted but not this high. Same here. I have probably been to 5 or 6 games each of the last two years, and I'd have never guessed Stevens would go in the 16th round as a junior. It was nice to see Feeney move up 8 rounds from 39 last year to 31 this year though, he has a good arm.

Official Draft Thread
The paper in Dekalb said NIU's junior shortstop, Bobby Stevens, is a projected 6th-15th round pick. He's a nice little player and I've seen him play probably a dozen times if not a few more, but if that is accurate, then I am not the guy a scouting department is looking for because I'd have never guessed he'd be close to that high a pick. We've got a pitcher the Royals took last year that should be picked tomorrow as well. In relevance to the thread though, I talked to a couple scouts earlier this year at an NIU game and they both LOVED our 4th round pick, O'Neil from Penn State, enough to mention him as one of the top relief arms they've seen this year. Supposedly in the Joe Smith mode as BearSox accurately said, and he could move through the system very quickly.
