I wonder if that 2nd half was an abberation or not, but UCLA just played embarassing defense. Fortunately for them, but had the huge lead to fall back on. I don't think Xavier has the horses to beat them, but UCLA has been vulnerable all year long, even with their good record.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) So the courts tomorrow are going to be raised 2 feet to allow for the crazy new football stadium set up. I wonder if it will be an advantage for Big 10 teams who have to play at Minnesota which still has a raised court. Perhaps, but I just think everybody is going to be f***ed up with the court at the usual 50 yard line instead of in one of the end zones like a normal dome setting. -
Tennesssee has no point guard and can't play defense unless it involves their opponent turning it over, but that's been obvious for a while. A less than surprising exposition of the Vols tonight (they should have lost to Butler). On a side note, DAMN Carolina is good. I remember thinking early this year that this team might be as good if not better than the 2005 version, and they are starting to head in that direction with this dominance. Louisville is really playing well though, UNC might only beat them by like 12.

Is there a chance Crede's actually re-signed after the '08 cam
whitesoxfan101 replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 09:32 PM) I hope we do resign him just so he could piss off 99% of the board and then watch everyone talk about how we ruined another sure HOF career. LMAO So you want us to re-sign an overrated 3rd basemen who outside of one fluke year can't hit, and who has a bad back, just to see the boards get mad? I have a name for people as unwise as you: Cub fans. I think your rooting for the wrong team if this post is serious. As for the answer to the question in this thread: No, hell no in fact. Boras is bad enough, but we have enough problems as is, no need to keep an expensive 3rd basemen with a prospect who very well may be better than him in the wings at his spot. Not to mention a prospect who has proven he can hit MLB pitching. -
The electoral college issue is nothing but hypocrisy based on the results of the most recent election. Case in point: All the democrats cried and whined over the electoral college since it kept the popular vote winner Al Gore out of office in 2000, but then in 2004 they whined about Ohio voter fraud costing John Kerry the electoral college, even though he lost the popular vote by 3 million. Double talk at it's finest. As for primaries, I agree with what I think Balta is saying, which is this is a state political party issue on both sides, so I'm not sure how a national proposal does anything.

18 y/o dies on Operating Table during breast enlargement

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) It's amazing how many girls are getting cosmetic surgery that are younger than that, or just as old. I'm only 20, and I know 4 girls off hand that have had it done, and 2 of them were high school grad presents. That is very sad. I don't have a story like that, but I think most people here (male or female) are like me in that it's amazing how many girls I know that are actually very pretty, but legitimately think they aren't even attractive at all. Perhaps it helps the chances of an average looking fella like myself, but it's still just incredibly sad to see women who are beautiful, yet think they look terrible. -
QUOTE(Brian @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) Travis Buck is their lead off guy? They could be very bad. They are going to be terrible, but that's a bad example. He was a very good leadoff hitter for a rookie last year at .288/.377/.474/.851 in 82 games, (actually that's pretty good for anybody) and was a .400 OBP/.900 OPS guy in the minors over 3 years. As for Manny staring down his extra base hits at the plate, he's been doing it for more than a decade and nobody has ever done anything. It wouldn't surprise me though if one of the Yankees hits him with a pitch with their new lousy, douchebag manager, but that would probably incite a near riot.

Canseco "introduced" Rodriguez to Steroid dealer
whitesoxfan101 replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) Personally, I think if A-Rod had actually done what Canseco says, it would have been in his first book. Canseco just wants another payday. Bingo. I'm not going to dismiss the concept of A-Rod on steroids, but Canseco doesn't know about it either way. He put all the dirt he has in his first book because he wasn't smart enough to spread the names out over a few books and get the paydays, and now he's just throwing out big names like Magglio and A-Rod because he played with them, has grudges against them, and hopes people will buy it. If he really still had names, there would be more than the 3 that are in this book. Not to mention I read his first book as well as the A-Rod part of the new book (on deadspin of course), and his language and confidence in what he says isn't comparable. In book 1, he knew the guys took steroids, in this book he is just confident that A-Rod wanted his first wife. Although I don't even believe that part unless his first wife looks like a man. -
Well if they aren't done for good now, they will be after they lose at Atlanta Friday. Probably for the best, they are a joke anyways obviously, go ping pong balls!!!

FBI posts fake hyperlinks to snare child porn suspects
whitesoxfan101 replied to BigSqwert's topic in The Filibuster
I don't see this as entrapment as much as I don't get how you can press child pornography charges against somebody who didn't even see child pornography. As the article points out, the offenders who click on the link see gibberish and no illegal images. I would think the burden of proof would have to be higher than that. -
FBI posts fake hyperlinks to snare child porn suspects
whitesoxfan101 replied to BigSqwert's topic in The Filibuster
This makes no sense to me at all. I mean anybody who is willing to click on a child porn link obviously wants to see it, but at the same time if there isn't any child porn within the links, you haven't proven they have looked at anything illegal. Willingness and proof of an actual crime are not the same thing at all. -
College Football Spring Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to danman31's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
NIU started spring practice yesterday. It's been opened to the public for the first time in years, and at least the first practice looked nothing like the practices Joe Novak had at all (most noteably, the QB's actually had to run). Coach Kill has said there is no depth chart and that other than Larry English's defensive end spot, every place on the depth chart is open to be won or lost. A lot of offseason surgeries mean a dozen or so guys from last year are out, but we're still healthy compared to the end of the season when we had more injuries than any team I have ever seen. We have a 5th year senior QB back, but I expect one of two redshirt freshman QB's to win the job because the system entails a more mobile QB than the old system did, and the senior QB is still pretty injured. Our season opener is August 30th at Minnesota. -
I probably drink alcohol no more than 2 or 3 times a year, it's just not my cup of tea. Often times I think I might be missing out on something and making the wrong decision by staying away from the bottle. Fortunately when I have those thoughts, I can just look at this thread to reassure myself that my decision making, at least in this case, is sound and accurate.

Obama... drug use within the past 10 years?
whitesoxfan101 replied to BearSox's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) Must be why nobody's heard of Jeremiah Wright. I'm not in the camp that Obama is being protected at all costs by the media, but I have strong questions as to if people would know the Jeremiah Wright story without the existence of youtube. -
Obama... drug use within the past 10 years?
whitesoxfan101 replied to BearSox's topic in The Filibuster
I can't see any way this is true, but I'll be interested to see if Obama adresses it even in the slightest now that it's being addressed in the professional media. He'd be best not to touch it, the story just seems too outlandish to be believed even by the most steadfast anti-Obama people. Actually as I read the first post again, it says that article is from a month ago? Nevermind then, he has no reason to bring it up if it's been a month and CNN and all those people have chose to not cover it. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) Man Ram is going to have an absolutely insane season this year. Yeah, I agree. I don't know if they have a name for the opposite of "regression to the mean" (sucession to the mean maybe?), but he's due to make up for his season last year which for him at least wasn't very good.

Overall, What do you think of the tourney this year?
whitesoxfan101 replied to Texsox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Thursday was absolute garbage. Friday through Sunday were as good as it gets however. -
Louisville and North Carolina are just destroying their opponents right now. I expect that to be the regional final here and it'd be a heck of a game. It's amazing how much better the 3's are than the 2's.

Oh I know the football team will be back, that's why I ripped on them while I still can. Memphis seemed to really wake up late in that first half.
-
It's a shame that Miami/Texas game wasn't 40:15 long instead of 40 minutes even. Miami is certainly heading in the right direction under Haith though, the football team there could use the lessons of work ethic and execution he seems to have implanted in the basketball program. Oh, and that 1st free throw by Augustin at the end was the worst free throw I have ever seen. Nervous much D.J.?
-
The fact that Butler played that badly and still sent Tennessee to OT tells me all I need to know about both Butler (very good) and Tennessee (in trouble). Sad to see my buddy and his team lose a game like that though, I thought they had it when it went to OT.

With all due respect to Davidson.......what a great break for Wisconsin. Davidson has very smart guards in Curry and Richards, but I can't see them beating Wisconsin. I give them credit though, what they've done already is a great accomplishment, and it's always great to see double digit seeds doing big things.

Official 2007-08 College Basketball Thread
whitesoxfan101 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
It it classless, but they are also right. Outside of Henderson, that Duke team is full of overrated garbage in terms of the players. I always have a hard time ripping people for saying the truth, even if it isn't very classy. -
I just noticed the final score of last nights game is listed as UCLA 53 and Texas A&M 49. Ummm why? The dunk was clearly after the buzzer, and a quick youtube search of it proved that my memory is correct. Are there any gambling consequences that would cause them to count that basket for no reason? I know it doesn't matter in the result of who won, but that's still ridiculous.
-
I don't know how you got at blaming the refs when you led 36-26 with 18 minutes left and then scored 13 points the rest of the game. You can't just stop scoring points against a really good team and expect to win (49 overall, 20 in the 2nd), and A&M went 3-7 when they did go the line and that's not exactly great anyways.
