QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 09:42 AM) I think the odds of that happening are extremely low. They're worried about his innings. But having him available as a reliever could be very interesting. Bingo. Did anybody actually, you know, read the article in the first post of the thread? Because the below quote is taken directly from it. End of discussion.

I agree with those who have said women are the best wingmen......as long as they are sincere in their intentions to help. But if they are, it is just about guaranteed to help you out. Great situation if you can find it.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) At the end of the day the Heat still have 3 better players better than the Bulls best. Chris Bosh is not better than Derrick Rose (although the Heat are clearly better than the Bulls). QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 08:52 AM) 5 years, $34 million for Al Harrington to join the Nuggets. yeesh. Maybe teams are writing these deals thinking that the CBA will make it so that they can opt out of the last couple years. Maybe the bad deals will be super mega valuable when they are expiring deals under the new CBA? At any rate a lockout seems pretty certain, especially if the NBA stands by it's demands for a hard cap and big first year salary rollbacks. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont...?urn=nba,255726

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) I find it absurd that people were mocking his great catch and saying negative things about a guy absolutely on fire and a team on fire. People are still b****ing in every game thread about the lineup when the lineup is posted. It's a lineup that has helped the team to a 25-5 stretch. Folks, this is team is on the most impressive single stretch in team history. Quentin has had an absolutely incredible stretch and people are ragging his defense? WTF. I'm not saying negative posts aren't good. Today upon reading this thread, however, I wasn't in the mood for one with the team and the subject of the negativity SO f***ING HOT!!! How is pointing out the fact (not my opinion, it's a fact) that he plays terrible defense count as "mocking" him? I never even dissed the catch he made against the Angels. In fact, I was one of the people that all things considered, defended it as a very good play. Doesn't change the fact he plays bad defense though. And on a side note, people whine about the lineups in most game threads because Ozzie still makes questionable lineups most of the time. But when you're pitching at an epic rate and have a few hot hitters to go with it, it really doesn't matter what the lineup looks like because you'll win anyways. Doesn't mean we shouldn't question moves that deserve to be questioned though.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) The Bulls are obviously going all out to build around Rose and it shows. They couldn't get him a Batman for him to play Robin, so they are gonna try and make him the Batman in the foreseeable future. It's the only choice they have. I think Rose as Batman can get you a long way eventually, but not to where you want to go.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) I'm pretty sure Quentin would be far more valuable as a DH than a right fielder. Quentin's current WAR: 0.2 Quentin's WAR as a DH with same numbers: 1.2 It's a one win difference. By him not DHing, it has cost the team a whole win share, or 10 runs created. If you can go get a David DeJesus to play right field, it would affect the DH position by inserting Quentin there, our right field defense, and a good top of the order bat. Don't worry, that one win isn't important since this isn't a tight divisional race. And it's not as if one win meant much the last 2 years in the AL Central either. In all seriousness, appreciate the numbers. I figured they were about that.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) You're really reaching there. You think his defense has allowed approximately 50 runs so far? Take the average offensive and defensive player. Think how many runs more than the average offensive player Q has created overall this year, then think how many runs more than the average defensive player Q has allowed with his outfield play. If you add the numbers up, Q ends up a positive player for us, but not by nearly as much as apparently everybody seems to think.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) Actually 101 just said exactly that. Yep, and it's pretty accurate. His defense is so amazingly bad that a lot of the runs his offense creates are just making up for the ones his defense gives up. If he continues hitting like he has recently, that point will become less and less true, and we can only hope that's the case. But as of now, the point still stands.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 01:08 PM) My thoughts exactly. He was in Bill Wirtz territory for a long time until the last 10 years or so. RIP you crazy guy. Have to disagree with the Bill Wirtz point. Even before he left his baseball people take over in the mid 90's, he spent a ton of money and had some success in the mid to late 70's and early 80's. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) Lately people dying have been huge bummers to me. One of the bigger than life owners of sports teams. Yeah, my first trip to Yankee Stadium was in 2003. Bob Sheppard was still on the PA, and George was still running a lot of things (I believe '03 was just before his health started failing him). Makes me feel both sad and old they are now both gone.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) if there is a sport that should not impose a max deal in addition to a salary cap, it's basketball. Exactly. It sounds crazy to pay a guy half of your salary cap, but in basketball, there are actually guys worth it.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) That it's ridiculous to always post negative s*** about somebody. No, he is not horrid defensively. He is not a train wreck out there defensively. He's average to below average defensively, not horrible. It was a great f***ing catch and people are b****ing about it. Every one of the bolded points is completely wrong.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) Keep searching for that perfect player. Maybe you'll find one. A-Rod? Pujols? greg, that's not the point. The point is that his defense is so awe-inspiringly bad that it almost completely overshadows the good things he's doing at the plate. It's one thing to not be perfect, it's another to create a lot of runs with your offense, but then give most of them back with your defense. Which along with his health problems is why Quentin would make a perfect DH, if only we could find a legitimate RF.

The team of destiny stuff is silly (although you all are right, it'll be out there). The thought should be more along the lines of Sheppard and Steinbrenner at least got to see one last hurrah this past October, similar to Harry Kalas getting to see (and call) a title for the Phillies in '08 before passing the next spring.

The man was all kinds of crazy into the early 1990's as a owner. But the last 14 years or so will be where his legacy lies IMO, even though he's been in failing health the last several and his kids have gradually taken over. Between the YES Network, the championships, and new Yankee Stadium, he has quite the positive legacy for himself now. RIP.

Another one I enjoy (and don't think has been mentioned yet) is his love for the 3-0 green light, and thus you often hear "turn him loose Oz!"
-
I don't think Gordon should go back to the 2 hole right now. His swing and at bats have looked immeasurably better lately, but I'll need to see more before I'm ready to hit him 2nd again. I will say that one thing he needs to go back to is "Your Love" as his at bat song though.

1. The entire opening day experience. 2. Paul Konerko's 8th inning home run to lift us to a sweep over Atlanta, because it's the first time I started to believe this team was actually good. 3. The 15-3 win against Detroit on June 9th. The Hawks won the Cup that night, and the 25-5 run also started that night. Almost as if the torch of excellence in Chicago sports was passed. 4. The entire first half for Paul Konerko and Alex Rios. As deep as the hole was at 24-33, it'd have been even deeper without those two doing their thing. 5. Coming back from 6-2 down against Cleveland to avoid being swept on June 6th. I think this was an overlooked moment, because you could argue this is when the run really started. You could also argue that the only reason this isn't THE moment we look back on is a rare Thornton explosion to blow the opener of the Detroit series a couple nights later. But I still think this game was key, maybe our biggest win of the season.

I am a little late to this party, but I don't know how anybody could ever determine Dwyane Wade is a good defender. He is to basketball defense what the guy who makes a bunch of diving catches but has no range is to baseball defense. He does a lot of stuff that looks spectacular, but overall he's not good at it.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) She's got baggage (the ex)! She's playing head games with you, unfortunately, that's one of the greatest powers of a woman ..her ability to know just exactly what she has to do to keep you interested without having to commit. You, are a "back burner" guy, her reserve, so to speak ..why would you settle for that? She's not over the ex ..A.K.A. even if she did commit to you, she would cheat on you with him in a heart beat! ..let her go man, let her go! Trying to hold on to something that doesn't want to be kept, only gets you dragged through the dirt!! DO NOT pursue ..if the occasional flirt n make out is what you're looking for, then that's what you'll have when you run into her ..but anything more than that, she's no good for it. I say these things, not to discourage you, but just to offer a dose of honesty from the female perspective!!! I hope it helped ..even if it's just a smidge!! This is 100 percent true, although reading it makes me sad because other than the part about the other person being willing to cheat (which I wouldn't do), the perspective of the girl in this sounds a lot like the way i've handled situtations with women in the past.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Celtics signing Josh Howard would be a nice step in their quest to become the most unlikeable team in history. They'd need to sign satan to be more unlikeable than the Heat.
-
They're not moving Sharp, I absolutely do not buy that. I believe the Niemi era ended today though.
-
I remember people making the argument that TCQ would be fine defensively in RF because he's somehow a better RF than LF, even though that went against all semblance of logic. I was hoping they'd be right at the time, but it just doesn't work that way (unless he was somehow actually worse when he played LF, which I highly doubt). As for the second half, I think we're going to win this division. If we acquire a big bat (and if I were a betting man, i'd put money on us doing so), we might win it by a noteable margin. And the fact I'm thinking that way really scares me.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) Ted Lilly would be terrible. Yeah, him in an AL and pitchers park would be ugly.
