Official NBA 25-26 Thread

Bulls sitting in last spot for playoffs play in. Another JR white flag trade. -
Everybody is correct. It’s both not worth it and something you should do if you have the time. Tickets can be expensive. Used to be able to get them dirt cheap (I got 3 tickets to a game a few years ago for $12 total). I haven’t had as much luck lately. I’d still wait to buy tickets and see if anything cheap shows up on the secondary market. Sox are not a big draw. Concessions are the same as a real game. That’s the real killer. Atmosphere is relaxed, and you can get pretty close to the players who are generally good about signing autographs if that’s your thing. Lots of times there will be some old timers signing on the concourse. Sox and Dodgers share a stadium on far west side. Unless it’s changed in the last year, parking is free. It’s a nice stadium, but it’s a haul if you’re staying in Scottsdale or Tempe Buy a cheap ticket and move around. The ushers don’t care in my experience. Only Cubs and Dodgers games are likely to be packed. Even if the Sox are playing an away game, only the Cubs game at their park is likely to be hard to get tickets to. Weather can be a little unpredictable. It may get surprisingly cold or be unseasonably hot. Tickets on first base side will get some shade as the game goes on. Sitting higher up (closer to the concourse) is not bad if you want to be assured of some shade. Third base side is in the sun I’d recommend going if you’ve never been. You decide if it’s something you’d do a second time.

Sox swing and a miss with black history month graphic
Middle Buffalo replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The graphic covers 1933-1078. Perhaps Frank was going to be mentioned in the 1979-present graphic? -
Sox would never entertain the idea of a white flag trade…

When I used to read Boers’ column in the Sun Times, I didn’t like him - mostly because he always ripped the teams I liked (Bears, Bulls, Sox, ND). He was especially hard on ND and Lou Holtz when they were good in the late 80s/early 90s. I eventually felt that he was correct, and though I’m still fond of those ND teams, his assessment of Lou Holtz was spot on IMO. After college, I had a job that allowed me to listen to the radio all day. I’d start with Stern and Brandmeier, then North and Jiggets, then Heavy Fuel Cruel until the Score signed off. Made my days fly by. HFC embraced “Who You Crappin?” and made it a sometimes hilarious segment rather than the hosts being embarrassed that Ditka essentially called Boers out for flip flopping on Ditka showing emotions on the sidelines. The ability to give and take criticism was what made the early Score great. I felt like Boers & Bernstein didn’t have the same ability to take criticism, so I stopped listening and moved the ESPN with McNeil. But I always remained a Boers fan. Now, I rarely listen to sports talk radio. I feel like when someone passes, so does a part of me. It’s been 30ish years since I listened to him regularly, but I’m forever fond and grateful to Boers for the countless hours he entertained me in print and radio. RIP. Edited to add that I saw one of the commenters on twitter say all these years later he thinks he remembers the theme song word for word. I’ll give it a try: “We’re happy for ya we speak our mind we won’t ignore ya or what you find you call up with acumen we’ll be here waiting looking for a friend the afternoon guys here on the score the afternoon guys McNeil and Boers”

Caleb needs to get a play off when the D has 15 guys on the field. That’s an Aaron Rodgers specialty

Per Passan: White Sox sign Munetaka Murakami 2 years 34M
Middle Buffalo replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Early nickname candidate - “Money Talks” Murakami. -
I thought One Battle was really good. Leo is good. Sean Penn, too. There will definitely be several Oscar noms. It has a Tarantino vibe where stuff just keeps happening. And then another thing. And another. It reminded me a little of Anora in that aspect. Recommend it. Only negative is it’s 3 hours. I’m not a fan of long movies.

Garrett Crochet named Opening Day starter
Middle Buffalo replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well, you’re going to win 162 games and lose 162 games. It’s what you do in the other 162 games that matters… -
Probably true long term, but short term it’s not like the Sox have much better options than him to play LF regularly.
-
They need to stick him in one place (probably LF) so he can get comfortable defensively. He’s not good enough anywhere defensively to be moved around so much at this point, but he has a live bat. Maybe after he becomes proficient in LF, the transition to the other outfield spots will be easier. I’m more confident in him doing something offensively than I was with Sheets or Vaughn, and they got tons of opportunities in the outfield.

Getz 2025 Grade: your vote matters.
Middle Buffalo replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
C / C- 19 game improvement with mostly 1st and 2nd year players. There are some nice building pieces. Still a long way to go. I’d be surprised if we sign any difference makers in the offseason due to the labor questions. Unfortunately, next years success will be greatly dependent on continued improvement of the young players. -
Taylor’s throw to the plate didn’t even make it to second base. He has to dive in that situation.

Totally agree, but it’s not like they’ll sign any premium FA’s. -

It’s also unlikely they’ll spend big money. JR isn’t going to lock into a big contract (surprise) not knowing how the financial landscape will change going forward. One year contracts will probably be the play, so we’re looking at the scrap heap again. Have to hope for internal improvements and some luck with whoever we sign. .500ish isn’t out of the question, and, as was said, that’s on the border of the last wildcard. So, we might be deadline buyers rather than sellers for a change. As I’ve said in other threads, I’d rather watch these young guys try and fail than the players from the last rebuild go through the motions again. This has been an enjoyable second half. I’ve watched way more than I expected. -

The enforcement of the balk on the infraction Davis had is really inconsistent - much like all umpiring, I guess. I’ve noticed guys are always double pumping their front foot, and I figured I didn’t remember what a balk was. Stone said you can get away with it if you do it all the time. Davis did it on the next pitch after the balk.😔 -
We used to call it “just the tip.”

In case anyone missed Eloy, Chase did a fair imitation of him running to first.
-
Gentlemen’s agreement. The Cubs are letting Civale throw one more game for the Sox to keep us from 50 wins and top spot in the sports section tomorrow.
-
Well, we were really bad last year. A 20 win improvement and 100+ improvement in runs scored is noteworthy. I’s be less excited about it if the major contributors were veterans. Most of our success has been driven by our young core.
