  1. Didn’t see this anywhere, so RIP Harry Teinowitz. Seemed like a good guy. Died a few weeks ago at 64yo. As I get older, that seems pretty young.
  2. Even if he isn’t projected to help a team in the playoffs, a guy who can put up quality starts the rest of the season should have some value to a contender. I guess nobody wants the White Sox stink on their rosters.
  3. Any reason Vasil couldn’t be a starter? He’s always good.
  4. I want the Sox to trade him, but I don’t want them to give Robert away. Keep him unless there’s a decent return.
  5. I’ve never wavered in my Sox fandom, but the ‘84 Cubs were fun to watch. I was the perfect age (12) for that season. My friends and I had no obligations. Summer was spent playing baseball, then playing intellivision while watching the Cubs (and Sox). Ryne Sandberg was so great that year. I remember watching the Sandberg game before going to a family picnic. Kind of hard not to get caught up in it all. Chicago was ripe for a winning team. The stretch from the 83 Sox to 84 Cubs to the 85 Bears (throw in Jordan getting drafted by the Bulls) was a pretty good time to be a Chicago sports fan. RIP Ryno.
  6. I defended Schriffen last year because I didn’t feel he deserved all the hate. I’d still say some of the reactions to him are over the top, but he’s not a great listen. I like that he doesn’t have “announcer guy voice,” but for a PBP guy, he simply talks too much. He sells the team too hard. And he doesn’t really seem to know that much about or have any experience in baseball. People always made fun of Hawk for his arcane references, but at least they were baseball related. Schriffen asks his partners a lot of dumb questions. The radio broadcast is way better.I don’t see Schriffen improving over time, but (huge but) I thought DJ was terrible -really terrible - when he was on tv, and he got much better. I guess I can hope for the same with Schriffen. Let’s give the Cubs the colonic treatment and blow these a-holes out again. South Side, Stand Up!
  7. Every day Reinsdorf owns the team counts as a loss in the offseason.
  8. It would be a huge plus if there were more restaurant and bar options within walking distance of the stadium. I been doing a baseball stadium trip with friends for years, and options around the park are always a bonus.
  9. I like the Sox new city connect jerseys less than the 83s, and I don’t like the 83s. Glad they’re wearing the pinstripes.
  10. Yep. Even if he puts together a totally improbable Jake Arrieta-like run for the next 3 seasons, he’ll be cooked by the time the Sox are decent (hopefully ). Makes no sense to hang onto him for even 1 more start.
  11. He should be traded before his next start. He should nab a decent prospect.
  12. Sox should put the automatic runner on 2B in the 9th and see if the Cards notice.
  13. Nice job. Those were some fun teams to watch - especially the rivalry with the A’s.
  14. He had a rough last few years. Definitely wishing he rests in peace. Tough to see the players of my youth starting to pass away. Totally underrated player. The Bears d-line was legit across the board. It’s too bad Wilbur didn’t stick around. He was on a HOF path, too.
  15. Record is terrible, but at least there are some signs of hope. I’d rather see young guys try and fail than vets fail and not try.
  16. Sad news. Condolences to all of you who knew Alex personally. Like some have said, whether we know each other personally or not, we are a family in many ways.
  17. I’m not upset with Lynn. I said, he’s most likely 100% correct. It would have been nice if he seemed prepared to pitch his last few seasons. At this point, I don’t think any player would sign with the Sox if given a viable alternative. There are probably 4 or 5 places where a player might say, “well, at least I’ll be in Chicago.” I’m tired of “rooting” for this team. I have the free MLB app on my phone and tv and can watch the Sox at will, and it’s not easy to force myself to do it. It would be nice if we had a glimmer of hope. Not while JR is at the helm. He’s always had disdain for the fans.
  18. Lance Lynn - the right handed David Wells. How ‘bout you get yourself in shape before the season? That said, he did have a few great moments and is likely 100% correct to criticize this dogsh*t organization.
  19. I figure this is as good a place as any to post that today marks my 20th anniversary on Soxtalk. I remember accidentally coming across this site (no, I did not mistype Sextalk) when googling the Sox. I had never been a member of any forums, but I clicked on this one early in spring training 2005. After a few days, I joined, and what a season to join. I was hooked immediately. I’ve never posted more than 2-3 times a day and probably average fewer than once a day. Anyway, Soxtalk has been my number 1 source for Sox news and entertainment. I religiously visited this site daily for years. This past winter is probably the only one where I didn’t log in daily when I had the opportunity. I’ll be back daily again during the season. Can’t help it. Anyway, thanks to all the posters who’ve kept me connected to my favorite team since I moved away from Chicago. Thanks especially to the mods who keep it running and help maintain a generally civil atmosphere. There have been some rough patches, but ultimately we’re all here suffering the same sickness - our love of White Sox baseball.
  20. It’s like a curse to get free access to all the bad baseball we can stomach. At least when he first became owner, JR and Eddie E had the decency to hide many games on pay tv that most couldn’t access. That said, I downloaded it again today. Thanks T-Mobile.
  21. SS and C are basically interchangeable. Tim Anderson blazed this trail years ago.
  22. A Season on the Brink was a great book written in the mid80s at the peak of NCAA basketball. RIP.
