  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:39 PM) And Matt Williams, next to Brady Anderson and obviously Bonds and Sosa, was THE most obvious juicer, so this is no surprise. Matt Williams used to be on a radio show here in Phoenix quite a bit a couple of years ago (once a week, I think, for a couple hours), and he was a typical apologist for the players regarding steroid use. His general stance was that he didn't really know of anyone who used, didn't condone it, didn't think it would help you hit a 95mph fastball, Barry Bonds worked harder than anyone, etc. Rob Dibble used to say the same stuff when he was on the Dan Patrick show a few years ago. The whole thing about steroids not helping you hit the ball is such double talk. Nobody says that it does help you hit the ball (though I've seen and heard reports that HGH improves eyesight and hand/eye coordination). Steroids - and similar strength enhancers - give you added strength. So, the ball, when hit, goes farther. Say, for instance, taking steroids increased your power, and the ball, when hit, traveled 5% farther as a result of the added strength. Now, instead of having an easy 390 flyout to center field, the ball travels 410 feet. Is it unreasonable to think that's what happens when a player is "juiced?" An easy flyout becomes a homerun. Just use Barry Bonds as an example. Before 2001, he hit something like 3 HRs more than 450ft in his career. From 2001 on he's hit about 30 HRs more than 450ft. Coincidently, he has morphed from 200lb to 250lbs in that time.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) I'm listening to Eric Clapton doing Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright". OMG it's kicking my ass. Album: Bob Dylan: The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration Old guy music. Nice. I bought "The Essential Bruce Springsteen" a few weeks ago and was stunned to learn that he did the original version of "Blinded by the Light" - the Manfred Mann (sp?) song. I can't stop listening to Bruce's version. I had no idea. Never been too crazy about the Manfred Mann version, either.
  7. Who would I contact regarding an in-game music suggestion that I have for the Sox home games?
  8. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 08:52 AM) But from what I read the tape with the cheating was stopped before anybody had a chance to look at what was taped, therefore the Patriots never got their "edge". They cheated, but without being able to use the cheat. So I would think that would mean their efforts are still there. Right. They were caught taping the Jets in their first game this season. Everything since has been legit, so I don't really get Shula's point. God, I wish the Bears had just beat them in '85.
  9. I really don't like the Patriots, but I kind of hope they go undefeated so the '72 Dolphins will go away. Not that I condone the cheating of the Patriots, but I find it highly unlikely that they are the only team that did this type of surveilance. The NFL emphasized before the season that video surlveilance like the Patriots were doing is against the rules. I doubt it was because only one team was doing it. NE was just too arrogant to stop. Other teams probably stopped. It's similar to the NCAA. Only a handful of teams get caught and penalized for cheating. Does that mean that they're the only ones. Cheating is rampant in sports - and, really, in life in general. Most people will take advantage if they think they can get away with something. For the record, the '72 Dolphins' strength of schedule hardly makes them seem like one of the all-time greats. Record: 14-0 Points scored/allowed: 385/171 Opponents' record: 70-108-4 (.396)* Record against teams with winning records: 2-0 Points scored/allowed against teams with winning records: 43/23 *For all of these opponents' records, games against this team are excluded.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 08:40 AM) One of you played HS ball. Nobody played even a bit of college ball. Regardless of if you had other sports to play, if you were that good at bball, in THAT season, thats the sport you would have played. There is basically no sport competing with bball that would or should compete for any of your talents. In fact, im pretty sure a college team like UCONN or TENN would beat you as well. Yeah, but one guy is 6'7" and might have drawn some interest from Daley College, and the other four are great, great athletes. Of course they'd beat a bunch of girls who play professionally at the highest level.
  11. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 09:07 AM) You'd get smoked. I agree. Diana Taurasi would school most guys who weren't really good basketball players. If you and your friends were really good HS players, you'd give them a game, but I seriously doubt you'd beat the WNBA champs. As for scoring on an NBA team, it would be very hard. Foul shots would be your best bet, but without a seriously good ball handler, you wouldn't have much of a chance of scoring a basket if the game were refereed with the NBA allowed amount of contact. Consider that guys like Steve Nash are 6'3" but appear small next to NBA players. Watch how much he gets bumped when he's moving with the ball. He can control his dribble. That's what separates the HS point guard from the college from the NBA. I doubt you or your friends would withstand that.
  12. These hour long episodes have been painful. There's some funny, but not enough to stretch the episodes to an hour. I don't even like it when NBC supersizes episodes to 40 minutes. They're never as good. I hope they're finished with the hour longs.
  13. I never missed an opportunity to draw a Sharpie mustache on my roommates when they passed out. It was always great to watch them wake up in the living room of our house in college and realize that they probably had a Hitler 'stache. That walk of shame to the bathroom to check their face for marks was priceless.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 24, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) I never understood why it was "gay" for me to hang out with the girls in the kitchen at parties instead of with the guys in the garage. Duh. Only because you and the girls were talking about all the cute guys in the garage. Other than that, not gay.
  15. I've also never broken a bone. Never saw "Animal House" or "Spinal Tap." I've seen bits and pieces of both. In my experience, when a movie has been built up so much, it's always failed to deliver for me. Never thought Dice Clay was funny.
  16. I got this idea a while back when I was reading the Movie thread, and several people (myself included) said that they'd never seen the movie "The Goonies." What's something that you've never seen or done that would surprise people? I don't mean things like sky dive or anything "extreme," I mean things that virtually everyone your age did or saw, but for whatever reason you didn't. For instance, I'm 35 years old and a movie fan, but I never saw "Terminator ." I never saw Michael Jordan play in person. I've only been to one Bulls game - and it was the year Jordan broke his foot and missed most of the year. I've never been to a Blackhawks game or any NHL game. I don't even think I've watched one on tv.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) Anyone hear of rubbing a cell phone battery to get a little more juice for one last call? I assume it's the higher temp that does it. Not sure about cell phone batteries, but I do know that if you tap the bottom of batteries (eg. AAA batteries) softly against one another when they are "dead," you'll get another few hours of use out of them. I used to do it with my headphones all the time.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 2, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) No, our qb tries to throw to everyone, if you're open, he'll throw to you. These guys just don't like the fact that they didn't get the ball every play. My team was one play away from playing in Memorial Stadium in 1992. I threw what would have been a 5 yard td pass to one of our receivers, and it bounced off his hands into the hands of the defender. Game over. Dream dead.
  19. 1st survey: Kucinich (52) then Clinton, Obama, and Edwards (all 50). First Republican is Giuliani (36). 2nd survey: Gore (65%), Bloomberg (65%), Obama (64%), Kucinich(61), Clinton (60).
  20. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) Fortunately I have a penis. I laughed at that. Might make a good tattoo accross the small of your back.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 12:29 PM) im going to get another one this week. I like tats as something that remind you about life transitions. I got one after college and after the end of a 5 year relationship. There are stages you go through in life and I like to make them lessons for me to improve myself and tats are a part of that for me. You should consider scrapbooking or writing a journal.

  23. It's used to distinguish the perp as much as possible so other people with the same first and last names aren't implicated publicly. It happened a while back to Eddie Johnson of the Suns. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/08/11/...tr=HOME_1888001
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 06:23 AM) Don't we all . . . I have one on my butt that says Exit Only, in case I was ever passed out drunk . . . You might want to add "Salida" on the other cheek just in case, unless you secretly want to hear "no ingles" just before the act takes place.
