  1. QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 07:27 PM) I really do want to try In N Out though. Something a little different than the Wendy's, Burger King, McDonald's, etc. Has anyone ever been there? Yes. Overrated.
  2. Are Home Owner's Association fees tax deductible?
  3. Music topics generally create some good chatter here. So which was the first album you ever bought? Mine was Michael Jackson's "Thriller" way back in fifth grade, 1983. Man, I loved that. Still do.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) I also just saw BBM. One of the friends I went with disliked it the other loved it. I thought it was absolutely gorgeous in terms of the setting--but I can't say I really got emotionally involved (or really even cared about any of the main characters, I did like Ennis' oldest daughter, but that's about it). At its heart I think the movie is about infidelity, whether you want to think about it in terms of the men being unfaithful to their wives or to each other is up for grabs. But, like Jackie said, it's not a new story. Jack and Ennis' relationship didn't seem to make either of them happy (except for a few days/weeks a year) and it certainly didn't make their wives/girlfriends happy (if they knew about it or not). I didn't think the story was particularly romantic, but I did think it was sad on a few levels. 1.) sad that these two men that care about each other can't be with each other 2.) that the two guys don't make choices that make them happy 3.) sad for the guys' kids (and wives) My wife saw BBM this weekend. She had the same basic review (beautiful film, but not quite deserving of all of the attention because it lacked something in terms of story/character development). On a positive note, she said she was pretty sure I wouldn't have liked it. I feel so manly.
  5. Howard's show won't be syndicated to the Fm dial because, as it currently stands, broadcasters are subject to be personally fined for indecency. So, even if he edited his Sirius shows, complaints from the watchdog groups that hounded him would leave him open to being fined again. I don't see him allowing that to happen. Also, it doesn't make much sense for Sirius to allow one of their only marketable shows to effectively compete against their product. I'd listen to Howard on one day delay. I already got the show 1-3 hours later living in Chicago and Arizona. It was never live for me.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) When Laura Petri wore pants on TV.... There's a timely reference.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) LOL, thank you. Are they winter Texans or settled here permently? Bigger question, are they Sox fans? Tell them to drop by Chicago Dogs on North 10th Street when they get homesick. They live there permanently (near the airport). I think they're Cub fans actually (old + day games), but they really lived for Fernando-mania. I've explained countless times that Cub is English for maricon.
  8. Wow. One of the more ignorant thread hijackings I've seen on here. I know at least 50 Mexican immigrants. I think 95% speak English. The only ones who never learned are my wife's grandparents. They lived on 26th Street, and I guess they just never saw any need to learn. They live in beautiful, sunny McAllen, TX now, and I've taught them the most important words in the English language, "Here comes Texsox, don't drop the soap."
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) Also, I know Carolla is podcasting his show, so I'll give that a chance, but I know seeing message boards that has been a bumpy road so far too. If you like Adam Carolla, you'll like the show. I've listened a few times, and he has guests come on and just kind of talk about whatever is on his mind. he doesn't really interview them, just kind gets their takes on various subjects. He had David Allen Grier and Carlos Mencia on for about an hour each when I listened. Anyway, not bad. I'd personally rather hear Brandmeier, but he's not available here.
  10. I can't wait to see what Barry Bonds looks like. I want to hear him say that he lost weight to take pressure off his knees.
  11. QUOTE(Yoda @ Jan 10, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Isn’t it supposed to be LasMediasBlancas? I've thought this since the first time I saw the name. That kind of stuff drives me crazy. Sadly, in my poor spanish, I had his name transated to mean "The White Media." Seriously. Anyway. I am a lover of all things Brady. Middle Buffalo was one of the names the Indian chief proposed for Peter in the Grand Canyon episode.
  12. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) it means that somewhere along the way, someone owes money to your uncles and mom. I've heard stories of forgotten inheritances, utility refunds, deposit refunds, missing/lost child support, stock dividends, etc. Could be interest on a closed savings acct too.. who knows??? You'll just need to send $100 and you're savings account number and routing info to release the funds.
  13. I am a Joe Crede pop foul. Greatness is just around the corner, though.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 03:30 PM) I f***ing loathe Kobe And he looks like a giant douche bag with those tights Those are support hose. Kobe fears vericose veins.
  15. QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) I guess that I just don't care for sportscasters who suddenly think that they're qualified to be political commentators and sound clueless when attempting to do so. I'd much rather listen to someone with actual experience/education in the field (Hannity, O'Reilly, Kasich, Matthews, Scarbrough, etc.). I loved O'Reilly on Hard Copy. Can't wait for Billy Bush to make the jump to Fox News.

It was very funny. Imagine that, comedy on a comedy show.
  17. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) I want to stop smoking...and I really am not even a smoker. I will have 2-3 cigarettes when I go out with my friends to a bar. I hate it, I hate the way I smell the next morning. The only way to not smell like an ashtray is to avoid the bar altogether. Keep smoking.
  18. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) oh yea, Olbermann was on ESPN radio claiming "no one cares about the White Sox" and "they'll never be anywhere near the Red Sox". hey olbermann: I don't recall him saying that. When talking about the stories of the year in sports, Olberman said it was steroids in baseball. He also said that he wished that the story was the White Sox winning the World Series, but it wasn't. He also said there is not a White Sox nation (like the supposed Red Sox nation), and that's the truth. I tend to think that the existence of the Red Sox nation has its roots in the East Coast media bias. I mean, it's obvious that many of the ESPN guys are either Yankees or Red Sox fans, so they tend to make those teams the story even when they're not. But, what Olberman said about the White Sox was not innaccurate. He said that maybe - maybe if it had been the Cubs or Red Sox winning the Series and ending they're droughts this year, that would have been the story of the year in baseball. Maybe. Who cares? I don't. 2005 was the year of the White Sox for me. Not even close. Somewhat related. I think the hour with Olberman on the Dan Patrick show is the only hour worth listening to on the whole show.
  19. QUOTE(tony72 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 06:00 PM) Blue is the default color of plastics...it was less expensive.. Other colors cost more to manuafacture. Think of purchasing a car and asking for a bright red for a model instead of the grey or silver. ...or asking for anything other than brown or tan colored M&Ms.
  20. QUOTE(OldSox2 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 07:09 PM) When did JR open up the purse strings? Doesn't seem like the same guy from a few years ago. JR always disliked giving pitchers long term contracts. Money wasn't really the issue.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) I believe they will go through with the green seats this offseason. They are selling all the blue seats. I want the one that John Cusack always sat in.
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 23, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) I think the American public just wants out of Iraq. Iraq is irrelevant to most people because there's no draft. If there was, and there was a possiblility of the sons of all of these die-hard Republicans being sent over there, people would be way more aware of the situation and way more critical of GW. As it stands, Republicans will stand blindly by their man because admitting he's a boob is an admission that they were wrong to vote for him. As it stands, Iraq is no longer front page news. That's exactly how this administration wants it.
  23. There's so many names involved that KW would get confused and somehow get outsmarted by Billy Beane.
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) Actually, while our other commenter didn't really back the point up well at all, I'd say that there's a fairly solid argument which could be made to say that the current economic growth is due more to the fact that the government is running massive deficits due to those tax cuts (a-la Keynesian economics) than it is just the fact that the tax cuts are happening. When the government dumps horrendous amounts of new money into the market, if inflation does not take off, you're almost guaranteed to generate growth. The problem is its almost impossible to sustain it through time, as the deficits will accumulate, forcing increases in the amount that people will need to be taxed and pushing the economy back into recession. Furthermore, you could also note that there has been a huge lift for this economy from the housing sector over the last few years, a situation spurred on by the low interest rate environment which really became possible when the Clinton administration and the Republican Congress managed to balance the budget. There are a lot of variables at play here. Yes, the Bush tax cuts were "important", but it's also important to ask how exactly they fit into the puzzle. Were they important because they stimulated the housing market, or was that solely due to the interest rate situation? Would they have had the same impact had they been associated with across the board spending reductions to keep the budget from being driven badly out of balance? What will be the future impact of the dramatic increases in the debt/deficit that we've seen during the Bush years, and it's associated inflationary pressures and increases in interest payments? My answer to all of those: I don't have a clue. I think it's beyond the scope of anything I do to evaluate or unravel the various forcings in this situation (which is why I'm not getting a Ph.D. in economics...but if you want to talk about rocks, let's bring it). But I think you can't just go and say that every economist would say that the Bush Tax cuts were "important" without analyzing the full set of impacts, and even keeping an eye to the future. He said take a class in Econ 101. Showoff.
  25. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) Add me to that list. What happened to these WR's? Did they actually hire Cedric the Entertainer as their Touchdown Boogey Coordinator? Anyway, I can't wait to see what he does. I love Chad Johnson. I hope they don't suspend him though. It's not like he's flipping off the other team. He's doing it to entertain the fans. I don't mind the end zone celebrations. Some of them are waaaaay overdone, though. Joe Horn planting the cell phone in the end zone - dumb. TO pretending he's a waiter - dumb. Chad Johnson breaking out the Riverdance and McNabb moonwalking - funny. I used to really like TO, and I still think he's the be WR in football. Somehow, though, I think TO's suspension is kind of related to all of this celebrating. I think too many of these WRs have gotten so self absorbed and are looking forward to their next TD for the celebration (rather than for the six points). It's a case of their egos and the feedback/recognition being more important than the game. I've read/heard it said that TO was initially angry with McNabb at the end of last season when McNabb said that the Eagles could win without Owens. What was McNabb supposed to do, say the season was over? It's not like he was wrong. They'd been to the championship in consecutive years without Owens. McNabb was just showing his faith in the rest of his teammates. At this point, Chad Johnson hasn't lost perspective. He still says the right things about winning. Hopefully that will remain the case. Hopefully his celebration will be worth the buildup. Midgets would be good. I wouldn't mind a guy "acting like he's been there before" every once in awhile, though, or giving the ball to one of his linemen to spike like Walter Payton used to do. Maybe I'm getting old.
