  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 07:41 PM) Ok but Lee is 35, had off season thumb surgery and a bad back . LaRoche is 30/31 and has a relatively clean bill of health. Do you really want an old guy with a bad back coming off thumb surgery at 1st base ? It's asking for trouble. It's a valid debate of course. But we'd have to weigh which is more likely: Lee bouncing back from injury and having one of his normal years, or LaRoche having a year better than any he's ever had. Like many here, I'd want at minimum .350 OBP, 25+ HR from the 1B. LaRoche can do this but I'm just thinking about who's more likely to do it. LaRoche's relative youth doesn't do tons for me since I don't know that any guy we get is going to be getting a long term contract or anything. It'd be different if he was doing what he's doing in his 20s.
  2. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) personally i've seen derek lee play alot more being with him being on the cubs and if we can get anywhere near his MVP years with the cubs i think for the money we can sign him for would be a definate steal... Yeah thats another thing. LaRoche has not had a year like Lee's '09.
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) If Konerko goes elsewhere why does everyone like D. Lee so much better than Adam LaRoche ? LaRoche is 4 years younger than both Kornerko and Lee. I like that even in this past down year, Lee's OBP was respectable (hell, wouldve been one of the better ones on our '10 Sox) LaRoche's down year for OBP meant he basically became Quentin for that year. Not so exciting to me.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) PK will sign with the Sox. Cowley has no inside info well his "inside" info is about our other 1B candidates. But isn't he basically just reporting what the Sox are saying publicly, regarding a breakdown in PK negotiations?
  5. I read that article, tried my best to make some sense of it, and then resigned myself to the fact that i'm best at just watching Sox games while gurgling a beer on my couch and yelling "cmon more home runs grarghhgh"
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) #1, Great work again by Joe Cowley. Too bad reporters don't have an OPS for how accurate their reports are, or Mark Kotsay would be LMAO at you. I wonder if the Sox FO have sent Cowley some faulty information as payback for some of his stirring of the pot earlier this year.
  7. OK, I can bring myself to post here. That was pretty cool. (Uribe's HR)
  8. am i too late to put forth the first-ever "Peavy as reliever" post?
  9. larussa is slime. dont particularly care for the diet he puts his players on.
  10. This is the biggest myth. They're better than us. They have been most of these past years. It's a well constructed team. Not luck, not fundamentals necessarily.
  11. instead of locking is it possible to just totally delete thread? not that it was a bad idea but it kind of hurts
  12. everyone on their feet for the incipient Paulie GIDP...?
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 09:07 PM) Juan is a likeable player but 38 Ribbies are too few. it's a team determined stat. total RBI hard to get when the guys in front of you have mediocre or poor OBP
  14. Seeing as how AL Central teams dont win championships, I'd rather not be built to specifically beat teams in the division. It's not even possible anyway. Each AL central team has its own identity and as you make changes, those teams will be shifting players around as well. Lets get a lot of hitting talent on the roster and then I'm all good, no specifics necessary. It'd be great to play to our park but if the Sox want to spend then lets build any kind of team we want as long as it's top notch. And by spend I mean look at current payroll and add significantly. Trade all your prospects and then you're basically painting yourself into a corner where you need to do it that way.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 07:15 AM) You keep praising the Twins every day saying we have no chance. Why do you bother watching anymore? So it's better to be dishonest with yourself and think we have a huge chance of winning the central? If we win the division it's going to take a massively impressive strong run people talk about sweeping the twins like it'll be (1) easy (2) the only necessary step
  16. What's CQ's problem at the plate. What was he doing differently in 08? (besides hitting the ball)
  17. talk about anti-climax for a clev fan.
  18. We have no situational lefty then. That isn't Sale's only role but right now he's basically that AND a setup guy, depending on how the game is playing out. This is the last ride with Bobby. For old times sake we ride it out and then next year he's probably in a different uniform.
  19. So is this a tendon injury for Gordon then? What are possibilities besides bone, tendon...?
  20. Credit where it's due liney had a nice plan of attack in that 1-2-3
  21. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 08:07 AM) Has anyone else noticed that this acquisition has gotten little attention? I'm sure if he was going to Boston or NY the press would be going nuts. Nothing would make me happier than having him come in and totally clean-up and help get the Sox to the post season. Well he hasnt been acquired yet, lets see if later today it's the #1 story on SC
