  1. How does the media get a chance to talk to him before Ventura does? Wtf is that?
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Entering his prime while making less on average per year than he is making now. You also realize Rios has 1 homer in his last 54 games and his total numbers are getting pretty average don't you? And if team A would give every other team a B prospect for Rios, why wouldn't they give it to the White Sox? Just total foolishness. He isn't exactly getting a lot of pitches to drive.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) And Rios a lazy rich guy? I mean, what the hell is Rios doing?? Maybe he really does want to be a White Sox forever and brilliantly deduced nobody would want him if he dogged it down the line. I mean isn't Rios paid to help the team win games? Sox would have grabbed the lead had he run hard. I mean is it too hard to run hard when you are paid that kind of money? Somebody do the math and tell me how much Rios was played to play tonight's game. How much is he paid per game? Why would you quote me when your post has nothing to do with mine? Anyway. I used to think Robin was just kind of quiet and pragmatic. Now he starting to remind me of Bruce Weber.
  4. I'm starting to think Ventura might just be a dumb person.
  5. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) Does google not work in Kansas. +1
  6. If you pull a guy for effort, get his off the field immediately. Your pitcher shouldn't be throwing the first pitch of the inning until he's in the shower. Embarrass him. That's the point.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:38 PM) Steve Stone mentioned he didn't run. Like 50% of players?
  8. I didn't see the play, but if people are claiming he dogged it, I'll just assume he was playing hard. People really just love to make s*** up about him.
  9. Is Beck not striking anyone out because he lacks an out pitch or can he not get his fastball by anyone? I'd like to see a stat for swing and misses on all his pitches.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 18, 2013 -> 12:29 AM) Completely agree. I didn't hate the 1st Jackson deal because they traded Hudson. I hated it because I thought they could have gotten so much more for Daniel Hudson and David Holmberg. How do you know that he could have gotten more value? That's why I hate armchair GM'ing. Nobody here knows anything about the trade value of a player in any given year. It's not like Hudson was a top 10 prospect that was over matching everyone. It's not like Jackson wasn't highly sought after. It was a good trade that worked well for us.
  11. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 03:39 PM) Plus the Orioles have to figure he will be useless in the late innings of playoffs. He's an automatic out to the majority of LOOGYs and good pitchers in general. But if you have to go to your pen and use your LOOGY to get Dunn out, it's almost a positive contribution.
  12. Another thing to keep in mind with Dunn is that hitters with his power no longer grow on trees. That power will be more valuable going forward. He's still an instant impact game changer. Lets not forget he also led the league in walks last year.
  13. OPS has just become accepted for non-stat heads. It's going to be used a lot in the future.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) I've been thinking about this. I still say there's no way in hell anybody takes Dunn off the Sox hands. Sox paid him an insane amount of money. He'll still be here striking out until the final day of that deal. Insane money? Thats just ridiculous. Carl Crawford got insane money. Jayson Werth got insane money. Dunn got a fairly team friendly deal. He's also a hard hitter to judge. I would guess he makes more hard outs than a lot of hitters because the shift just kills him. If I was running a team where money wasn't a huge issue, I'd love to have him.
  15. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:34 PM) I would be upset if he gave up a run or even a couple hits.....but cmon guys. It's an injustice of epic proportions. I quit baseball. [/greg775] Nobody watched it without Puig. It doesn't matter. [/caufield12]
  16. Selig couldn't be anymore creepy. It's an amazing achievement that he's seen a vagina in person.
  17. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 10:16 PM) guys he's mariano rivera, he deserves it. sale will get other shots When did it become a lifetime achievement award?
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 05:50 PM) I'd assume that most of us that watched him in relief have seen him hit 101. With that said, who cares if he does it again? I don't care per say, I just don't want him going out there trying to prove he still can during a game that doesn't matter. I don't care about pitch counts. I care about pitchers over-throwing.
  19. I really hope Sale doesn't go up there proving he can hit 100.
  20. I originally watched the game with a good friend who's a Tigers fan. I was so fired up, I made him leave. I used to take sports way too seriously.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) I would have agreed with you so much more had i not lived through 2011 and 2012 with the white sox. Those 2 seasons convinced me that a manager can really do enormous things for a baseball franchise, because I saw it happen. I think that was a pretty extreme case. Ozzie was such an egomaniac that I wouldn't put it passed him to try to sabotage the team to spite the front office. In that case, a manager can absolutely kill a team. Generally, I rank baseball manager somewhere between hitting coach and football equipment manager in terms of their importance to the outcome of a game. I also think Coop probably has more pull in the decision making process than the majority of other coaches. For example, I'd wager that pitch counts are coming straight from Cooper. He seems to trust the pitcher in that situation. If Sale and Peavy say they feel good, they've earned the benefit of the doubt.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 07:56 AM) If you notice in the commercials they've been running recently, a little kid was shown wearing a Beckham jersey (maybe confused and thought it was David Beckham?) At any rate, it wasn't Chris Sale or Paul Konerko. Hawk's PR work on behalf of Gordon has been paying off in spades. Let me get this straight. The Sox are running an ad that shows a kid wearing a Beckham shirt and you equate that to a PR campaign led by Harrelson? Where do you come up with this s***?
  23. I like both sites. *shrugs* Some of the posters over there do complain excessively about the attendants though. Generally, Chicagoans tend to be somewhat rude. Chicagoans being paid minimum wage to serve you are kind of rude. Shocking.
  24. I'm not sure the numbers back this, but its always seemed like we play better against good teams.
